I am a fan of the refillable mugs but not sure why we can't use the ones from previous trips. i know you are supposed to buy new ones every year but if you do that what do you do with the old ones you have?

I think it is a waste of $$ to have to buy new mugs every year (Of course Disney wants you to waste your money on em.) ...

Do you reuse your mugs?
if not, what do you do with them when you get them home?

I buy a new one each visit when I'm there for more than 4 days or so. (If there 3 days or less I just pay for each drink I purchase at the resort.)

I beleive the reason for the refillable mugs is to make it more reasonable for long term guests to purchase beverages during their stay. I purchased my first one in 2005 and if I'd used it for every visit since then I would probably have used it for about 40 days in total. Disney would be losing money big time if the mugs were refillable forever. Their intent is ease during a visit but not to lose money.

I bring them home with us and use them there for a while and they they get tossed. Especially those I purchased before the new BPA requirements came out.

Wow.
You could do other things w/ them instead of throwing them out.
Lets say a vase? lol.
or you can donate them to salvation army/good will...

anyway, i have seen other people fill their mugs up that they got a long time ago when it was the bigger mugs (at least the more thicker mugs).
i bought a caribbean beach refillable mug last year from Salvation army for fifty cents lol.

Anybody else?

Wow is right! popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::

No, we don't reuse them.

My husband makes us all get our own each visit. He won't even let my youngest and I share one!

The mugs are his souvenirs. He doesn't ask for anything else on vacation just 4 new mugs. He takes a Disney mug everyday to work with his coffee. He claims he's not a big Disney guy but I know that he is proud of him mug collection. We even had to measure to make sure that his mug fit under the Keurig before he would buy me one.

In fact he is a little too excited about the fact that our dining plan this visit includes the mugs. All he keeps asking me is "When can I get my mug?"

Hoping that after this trip he'll be ready to let a few of his earlier mugs go so that I can have a little extra room in the cupboard. ;)

I use mine to take my coffee to work with me in the morning... I DO wish they still had the individual resort mugs as I would have loved to have that collection...but at least they change them from year to year.

Remember that you're not just buying a mug. You're paying for all of the beverages you're going to consume at your resort during that particular trip. Many posters have wondered why they have to keep buying mugs over and over. The answer is that they don't. You always have the option of paying for each beverage you want at your resort. Disney's rules say that the mug is good for the length of your current stay. It doesn't mean you get free drinks for life. If you don't want a new mug, just buy your drinks individually. If it comes out cheaper to buy the mug, just toss it before you go home and plan to buy a new one next time.

The newer "slender" style mugs are great for coffee/drink of choice and should fit in most car cupholders. I only have 1 older "thicker" style from All Star Sports from many years ago. I use it to hold small cleaning items (brushes/dusting rags).

Please take the time to reread my original response. I said that I threw them out because of the new information that is available about BPA that wasn't available when those first mugs were made. I don't believe there is any information available to say that the old mugs don't contain BPA. My health (and that of others) is important so not sending to a thrift store.

Actually you said "they get used for a while, and then we toss them. Especially the ones from before the BPA requirement."

So your original quote implies that you throw out mugs after a while, and you definitely got rid of all your older mugs.

None of my business what you do with them, just pointing out that I read what the PP read.

I do throw them out. They get old, begin to wear, the lids don't come as clean as I want them to so yes, I throw them out. Seriously folks...these are not precious china! They're plastic, refillable mugs intended for use during your stay at the park and possibly for a bit of time afterwards.

I am not someone who keeps a lot of stuff in my home that I'm not using and if I kept every mug I've bought I'd have more the 10 of them. I don't need 10 mugs in my home to yes, even the new one I purchase on this trip will be used for a while and then find it's way to the garbage. I don't know what you do to clean your Disney mugs but I dare you to take the slide lid apart and see what's in there and then, try to get it put back together so that it doesn't leak. I won't give things to a thrift store that are not in good condition. Trust me, way too many people use them as their own personal dumping ground! A huge pet peeve of mine as thrift stores then need to use the money theve earned for a good cause to have junk hauled to the dump!

So yes, the older ones I threw away immediately when the BPA issue came about and the new ones live their life for a while and then out they go.

i buy a new mug each year even tho my dad warns me every year we have no more room for anymore mugs but i live on my own now so i can get all the mugs i want....and when i come home i use my mug to drink around the house or even to bring coffee to work and i cant wait to get the new ones out this year b/c they look so cute.

We aren't afraid of germs, so we only buy one mug for our family of four, but we do buy a new mug each time. There isn't a rule that I know of saying you can't share your beverage with others.

It's really not that big of a deal. I think a soft drink is about $3. So, if you fill your drink five times, you've gotten your money's worth. Definitely not a waste.

I really wish you could buy a sticker for later trips like you can on the waterpark mugs....I still have waterpark mugs from about 10 years ago! It is so much more enviromentally friendly!

As always, there is the option NOT to buy the mugs and just get drinks individually. I don't know why there is such a question about their rules. :confused3 It's their rule, you can like it or not. If you don't , don't get a mug.

This thread seems all to be about the resorts and I wouldn't know about those refillable mugs but if they're anything like the mugs at the water parks then they're a serious bargain!

We had a little trick (probably not the only ones and I probably shouldn't be saying it :D) but we would buy one mug the first trip to the WP (and share the drink) then on our second WP trip we'd take the first one along, buy another there, fill the new one, scan the same barcode again and then fill the second mug - there's a delay between scanning and filling so it's OK.

Now, I know that this isn't a big cheat or anything; we could have stood there, drank the first mug-full and then filled it up again. It's just a nice time-saver that I'm sharing with folks who haven't already thought of it yet!

As for keeping the mugs, we went to the WP's 3 times last year and bought a new one each time so we've got 3 mugs now which come in really handy for cool drinks outside (just throw some ice in) or taking up to bed - they're waaay better than normal mugs because of the lid; outside it keeps nasties out of your drink (and the sun off it) and inside it stops our cats from snaffling all of our water before we can get to it!

I wouldn't worry about throwing them out though; at the end of the day, they're just mugs!
