Refillable Mugs

I still want to know what the Brazilian tour group topic is. :confused3:)

Brazilian tour groups are notorious for running through the parks in large groups following their leader who carries a flag - they clog lines, cut lines, scream out chants and generally upset people. I have no problem with them, they amuse me. They're mostly teens acting like teens.

That would amuse me too.

When we were last at Disney my husband was highly amused by a group of Argentinian cheerleaders. We were at Blizzard Beach and I left him alone on a chair reading a book and when my son and I returned from a ride on the water slides my husband was completely surrounded by young Argentinian cheerleaders sunbathing. It was pretty funny, and he claimed they came to him, he did not move his chair.

Umm, why would caffiene free diet coke be excluded from a bar code???? I find this an interesting twist on this rumour that makes it harder for me to believe.

That's strange...I wonder why the design change so soon? Those are more cylindrical than the earlier ones. I wonder if the capacity has changed at all...

Apparently, it now says that you can only use them at the resort you purchased them from. :confused3

The old ones said you could only use them during that particular visit.
Who cares.:surfweb:
Drink up.

I thought the purpose of the generic mugs was that you could use them at all resorts. That's what it said on last year's mug.

I just grabbed my mug from April, which is the "old" style new mug - white narrower bottom. The wording is exactly the same as reported on the new mugs, so that did NOT change.

I believe the original change to a "unified" design was probably a cost savings in only having to design, purchase and sell one mug instead of a separate one for each resort, but really about allowing their use at any resort, but lets please not get into a mug use debate because that will kill the thread.

Hmmm, In My Eyes You Should Just Be Able To Continue To Use Them :-) But Disney Decided Not To.;)

Just an interesting note, Hershey park encourges guests to bring thier refillable mugs back from any year and they will refill them to cut waste in the parks. Now granted they charge you a $1 for each 32 oz refill. I'd love to see Disney do a "green" thing and start allowing refills of the mugs in the parks for a discounted charge. I think they would sell more mugs.

Can I suggest Disney simply operates the same system they have in their water parks in the resorts. The mugs are given a barcode for the day, which have to be scanned in order to operate the soda machine. That way the mugs can be reused, encouraging the 'green' aspect and that way others dont get away with using any old mug!:cool1:

I'm bringing my 2009 refillable mug....from Williamsburg. It's bigger.:rotfl::rolleyes1

I'm surprised Disney hasn't figured it out. Colonial Williamsburg charges 11.00 for the mug. It has the year it was bought on it and is good for that year.

If you are still using a ten year old mug that is good for the lifetime of the mug, that is gross. The coating chips off, they stain depending on what is stored in them and it is not real easy to get the lids real clean with the closing mechanism.

I actually heard that they plan to start putting bar codes on the mugs. The bar code will be tied to the dates of your stay. When you put the mug up to the fountain it will read the bar code and dispense the beverage if it is a valid bar code. If it is expired, no drink for you unless you take it to the register and pay the fee to re-register the mug. The only exception will be water and and diet caffeine free Coke where it will still be dispensed regardless of the mug.

We are using the old mugs, I cant remember how old they are, but we were told they were free refills for the lifetime of the mug and these are still in prefect condition. As another poster stated, they have one shell inside and are not coated and these lids do not have any kind of closing mechanism, so they are easily cleaned too. We wash them while at the resort, with dish soap, after each use. Once we bring them home I wash each of them and dry them and store them in the gallon zip lock bags and wash them again before we go to DW. We ONLY use them for drinks at our resort and never use them at home.

And there has been rumors of the bar code thing for years, but I do not forsee it ever happening.

I wouldn't count on it...they use the barcodes at the waterparks, so it would be easy enough to do and outfit the machines with. They have the technology in place.
