At Typhoon Lagoon today and was told the refillable mugs are no longer available. The Freestyle machines are gone too.

Is this new? It surely is disappointing to me. Hanging out in the sun without the hassle of ordering every drinks was a huge reason why I loved the water parks.

Have they changed the rules in the middle of the game with this?

Not sure exactly what you are asking. Typhoon Lagoon just reopened today after a refurbishment without the refillable mugs. Blizzard Beach is currently closed for refurbishment. It sounds like when the refurbishment of BB is complete, they probably won’t have the mugs either. If they were going to discontinue the program, it kind of seems like a logical time to do it. It is disappointing for people who used it though.

It’s not like they were selling them at TL yesterday and then abruptly stopped today (although it wouldn’t surprise me for Disney to do that).

Could they do this with the resort mugs as well?
Sincerely doubt that considering they’re part of the dining plan.

I’d be curious to see how many guests truly utilized the water park mugs, because it seems like most folks treat the water parks as a half day and wouldn’t be there long enough to justify it. That’s a big reason we didn’t do it when we went to TL, besides the fact that we don’t like drinking a ton of soda like that in hot weather outdoors. We were going to skip it again this time. But we always get resort mugs despite never being on the dining plan because our trips are long enough to justify it, and we spend a lot of time at the resort. We do a lot of Powerade fillups and non-soda options.

Maybe they weren't selling as many as thought? Possible I guess.

Are they still offering the reusable beer cups? I didn't buy the soda mug but I did buy that cup as I thought it was a decent deal for beer.

Even if they did stop selling them abruptly, no one who had purchased one is losing out. The waterpark refillable mugs were only good for one day only, not like the resort mugs which can be used for 14 days. Now if they stopped allowing mug refills in the middle of the day, that's a different story (and this did not happen).

We booked a Beachcomber Shack for a couple of weeks from now with the promise of the refillable mugs, so that's disappointing.
We haven't booked a cabana this time, but have many times in the past. We were curious about it too, though we've seen no one drinking a can/bottle of Coke in the cabanas, only water. Didn't ask, though. Curious what your experience will be.

Not entirely true. You could buy a mug, then re-activate it for a lesser fee.
Maybe they have actually ran out of these mugs or close to doing so?
Maybe, but coincidentally on the day Typhoon Lagoon re-opens. And with Disney being prepared early enough so they had time to re-print all menu boards mentioning those mugs. Call me cautious but I very much doubt so.

Did you at least go complain at guest services?
My wife happened to stumble upon a duty manager on site and she brought it up. This might very well have been his first guest interaction since the reopening, as we came in early.

He was very nice and apologetic about the inconvenience.

Probably right.

We just bought two mugs at BB in April and enjoyed using them!
Sad to see them go.
We have a TL and BB trip planned in June, July, and August.

As did we, the fact we were sold one thing and given another seems disheartening on some level.

Is this a quote from the Disney website?

I would be curious how it works in practice. Once again, in reality, this morning, no cabanas were drinking sodas. Pretty unusual to me.
