Witnesses have stated they were led to believe the policy at one time was "Good for life." A representative of the company backs up the statement. The only evidence the plaintiff offers is hearsay from an independent third party.

I'd settle this one out of court.

OMG~!
That country music tune has got me ROFL!!!

I must admit that I have a strange fascination with the great mug debate. I have pondered it in depth. And I would have to say (even though no one"really" asked my opinion) that mug refills much like most major ethical dilemmas can only be decided by each individual mug-er. I flip flopped on the matter personally, because the compliant part of my nature whispered to my brain "rules are rules"....I don't burn/steal music from the internet, isn't refilling last visits mugs the same thing?? With that thought, I was fine for weeks. But then, someone else posed the great mug question and I thought..."hmm, I tend to stay for short periods of time; three or five nights...why should I only get 4 days of free crappy coffee when other people get TWO WEEKS worth of free crappy coffee!! What's with that??? I am going in January, staying at the same resort as last time and I still don't know for sure what I am going to do. (I may have to consult a therapist). One thing I know for sure, once I decide, no one be me and my hubby will know what we decided, because the only thing I know for sure know is that either way I will feel either stupid or guilty!!

Oh, one more thing....would it be wrong to put my head under the Coke dispenser and chug without a mug??

Well I don't consider WDW a third party. There was someone on here that worte to Disney and was told they are only good for your current stay.

Oh, you made me laugh!!

Why not..we saw someone using a bread bag getting frozen coke at Pop. The CM cleaning up right next to him, said nothing. We wished we had our camera..not because we cared, but because we thought "the Dis just won't believe this!".

ok....again then I pose my question.....

If the mug is good for the length of your stay....
is it good for the length of your stay at WDW OR
the length of your stay at that particular resort?

I thought about this....if something is said to me at the POLY after just coming from the POR, I'm going to have them explain to me the "RULES". I don't think I should have to buy 2 mugs for 8 continuous days. Especially since I'm even paying MORE money the last 4 days of my trip moving from POR to POLY.

One more time........The new mugs say "good for length of stay use only." The old ones which are Grandfathered in and good forever do not have any writing on them. I was told by the head of the food court that this is the official policy. it sure makes sense to me and I am not a brain surgeon. Your mug will tell you what is right and what is policy.............We now return to our regular programing.LOL....have a great day.....I am going to the kitchen and fill my old good froever Wilderness mug...........

ONE MORE TIME

My older mugs don't have any writing saying I can get free refills for life. I don't EVER recall seeing ANYTHING that promised free refills for life. I bought most of my mugs when the signage clearly stated refills were included during your current stay. Really nothing that needs to be grandfathered.

Food court managers have allowed people to get free soda with old mugs and other mugs for years. I accept that is what you were told but until you see it in writing I wouldn't accept it as any more than the current policy of that resort.

The official policy, mugs are good for your current stay, has been communicated via signage for years. The fact that Disney has seen fit to put stickers on the mug to further communicate the policy doesn't change anything. I posted a link from mouseplanet that said this was always the official policy, it just hasn't been enforced.

It sounds like old mugs will still refilled, for awhile.

I wonder how long before the mugs have a bar code and you pay a per day fee?

Face it unless Disney want to mess with bar codes or hire enough CM to pour (or at leat check) drinks people are going to do what they want.

Can't they do something similar that I saw at Typhoon Lagoon where the machine only works ONCE for each scan and pours enough to fill the mug? This would solve the problem and when buying, you would have to show your room key with the dates of stay.

It is rumored that Disney is considering doing that I can see people paying for one mug and then filling it, transferring the soda to another mug and then repeating the process. It really wouldn't take that many CM if Disney really cared to enforce the official policy.

FIRST we have to assume the present system is a problem. Free coffee and soda doesn't cost Disney that much and helps sell some mugs and keeps guests happy. We may look at this as a bigger problem than Disney does. Boardwalk bakery has a sign that says they refill curent boardwalk mugs and then gives discounted price if you want to fill any other mug.

Self service beverage lends itself to people getting free product.

I've been a dis member for a couple of years and have read many a refillable mug thread - I guess I'll finally post to one

I have figured that if a mug costs about 12 dollars - I figure out how many sodas/coffees I would drink during my stay - and if that would cost more than the 12 dollars - the refillable mug makes sense to me....

If I've saved money during that one visit - then the mug was worth it - especially since it then becomes a souvenier

I don't look down on anyone using an old one - they've probably heard that the mugs were good forever - or they're getting a thrill thinking that they're getting something for nothing - - its not a problem for me

and I understand the people who get annoyed by the old-mug users because it offends their sense of morals - there are things that burn me up that are probable non-issues for others -we all have our "buttons" that get pushed

and I get the urge to argue about it - its one of those issues that are easy to pick apart and get into a good argument about - you can argue the semantics of "length of stay" you can argue the morality aspect - you can argue the business decissions of enforcing or not enforcing - and it's not a life or death issue that people get terribly hurt over

its actually one of the perfect repeatable topics for a board like this

I think I'm babbling - I should keep to my constant lurking and infrequent posting - and not jump into these things

;)

WOW....Lewisc..this has really hit a nerve with you, huh ?
How much stock do you own in Disney ?

If this bothers you and others so much, maybe you should take one day out of your trip every time you go...pull up a chair by the drink area...sit back , relax, and strap down and BE THE MUG POLICE FOR DISNEY.

What will people have to do when they have been there for 5 days...carry their receipts around with them showing "proof of purchase". ????

THERE IS NO WAY.......REPEAT NO WAY this policy will ever be inforced on a regular basis.

Not anyone on these boards is going to get this policy changed.
Its time some of you worry about something a bit more important.

Well, it is kinda enforced at BWVs!!! I haven't found any self refill spots as of yet. In fact, at Leaping Horse Libations, they fill a regular paper cup for you and you pour that into your mug!!! Now, if I have missed a spot where you can refill yourself, please let me know. I have to say it was kind of a hassle to have to get a cup and then pour it myself.

Actually the present policy of free soda doesn't bother me at all. I agree with you, I don't expect Disney will do anything to actively enforce the rules any time soon. They could either use bar code readers (like the water parks) or get rid of self-service drinks (like BC/YC BW) but I doubt Disney will do either anytime soon. Changing the mug designs once or twice a year would probably be enough to limit reuse, bar codes linked to your reservation would completely solve it. Self-service drink dispensers lend themselves to customers helping themselves to extras even without the issue of mugs.

I have no problems with people who say the official policy on mugs isn't being enforced.

My only problem is with people who post mis-information and somehow think the signage that's been there for years doesn't mean what it says. The official policy goes back for years and I've yet to find anyone who has any written information showing that the mugs ever gave you free refills for life. CM's telling you to bring the mugs back doesn't make official Disney policy.

Most of these "mug debates" have the same participants making the same points. Occasionally a newer poster (non troll) asks a question. I think they are entitled to an accurate answer, the mugs are only for your current stay in that resort BUT if you bring an old mug the CMs will probably let it slide as a courtesy.

Someone posted CM's at the POLY are starting to enforce the rules and I know BW is enforcing it. Guests bringing back old mugs are entitled to know that using old mugs is a courtesy that many CM's are extending to guests BUT not official Disney policy. If I thought I was allowed (by rule) to use old mugs I'd ask for a manager if a CM told me to buy a new mug. If I knew it was just a courtesy I wouldn't be confrontational but would just purchase a new mug.

I do think people selling mugs on E-Bay, guests filling big gulp mugs, old mugs and mugs from other resorts MIGHT cause Disney to drop the program all together but that doesn't bother me. I buy mugs as a souvenir. The truth is for the $10 a mug costs you could buy more than enough soda for your trip and not be bothered walking through a resort carrying and spilling mugs.

Yes...they are entitled to an accurate answer.....
ITS OKAY TO USE YOUR OLD MUG.

Nobody on these boards will EVER convince me to buy new ones. when I purchased my mugs it was FOREVER.

If anyone here thinks that Disney will ever spend the money to police this policy or even have new mugs made EVERY year...you are dreaming.

Those who buy new mugs every year....good for you.
Those of us who do not buy new mugs every year....good for us.

But it sure does seem like those who buy the mugs every year are the ones who are the most perturbed.

Did any of you ever think about the quality of coffee served...or how much Disney spends on the soda??..They have a contract with Coke and Nescafe. They basically get it for NOTHING...YES I SAY AGAIN....NOTHING....in return..Coke and Nescafe get ADVERTISEMENT.

maybe those who are really upset should start a "poll"....
Do you buy new mugs EVERY year....yes or no.

Nope, not buying a new set of mugs for each trip. Got waaaay too expensive. So, how do I manage? I bought into DVC. Now, I don't really need the stupid thing. Of course, we did buy one 3 weeks ago. Had to have one from our home resort!!!

Interesting thread....

Question: For those who believe mugs *CAN* be used year after year, does that mean from one value resort to the next and / or from value to moderate or moderate to deluxe from trip to trip? Hope that made sense....

It would be interesting to know, NOT that we will do it...?

Maybe Disney should come up with a program where you can pay $5 for using your old mugs. Then nobody loses. Disney gets a bit of money, no one could be considered "stealing or without morals" (I don't pay for your vacation so my opinion means zip), and everyone would be happy.

I gave up buying mugs a couple years back. We buy canned sodas. None of the kids ever wanted to go down and refill their mugs when they could just grab a can of soda from our cooler. 72 cans of coke $16. Thats 4 1/2 sodas a day per person. Look at the money I save.

Rockin_rep we have used our All Stars mugs at each and every All Star resort we have used our Dixie (POR) at Coronado when we forgot it and have filled our Coronado at the Contemporary and at Wilderness Lodge and no one has ever said a thing to us about it. At Coronado we forgot to take our mg with us so we brought our Dixie mug and even the wait staff at the peppermarket took it from the table and filled it for us.

Now this is what bothers me. Do you really thing reusing a mug is the same as lying and getting a child in for free? I suppose you do both?

Well, that was a snotty, personal response..FYI, no, I do neither....I am just saying that you shouldn't get your panties all in a twist if I do..It has no effect on what I do,as I could care less of what you think, and all it does it get you upset.
