Refillable mugs in Resort restaurants

Most Disney resort restaurants charge you $2.99 or so for a soft drink. I know you can't do this for restaurants in the parks, but for resort restaurants, if you have a Refillable mug with you, do they fill it up for you for free? Or if not, can you walk to the nearest refill station and fill it yourself?

Thank you.

No. They're not allowed to take your mug into the food service areas to fill it for you. Nor will the restaurant do it for free. You would have to take it to a refill station.

OK thank you. We are planning on going to the Whispering Canyon Cafe for dinner. Is there a refill station within reasonable walking distance to the restaurant?

Is this "walking out to get a refill" thing done by anyone on here? Am I doing anything unethical by doing this? Perhaps we'll just fill it up right before walking in, so as not to be obvious.

I don't know that I would consider it unethical but it's not something I would do...Either I would just wait to have a soda until I got back from the restaurant or I would splurge for the price at the restaurant. I wouldn't want to hassle with it. Plus, my kids drink so much with their dinner that I could totally see them drinking the refillable mug and then wanting a glass of water or something else anyways.

I'd have water while in the restaurant and then go get a drink afterward. Or finish one before going in. Not sure I'd call it "unethical" per se but it seems like a pain to be going in and out of the restaurant to save a few bucks.

I wondered about this too. We ate breakfast at Kona one morning when we were staying at the Poly. I was really tempted to fill my mug at Capn Cooks before going because it killed me to pay $3 for a Diet Coke when I could get it free downstairs. I didn't do it though - I just paid for the drink at Kona.

I wouldn't bring outside food or drink into any sit-down restaurant for consumption there unless dealing with small children or medical issues that require food or drink unavailable at the restaurant.

Would look rude to me if you are bringing a food court mug into a table service restaurant. Would you buy a burger in the food court and then take it up to Cali a Grill? I know drinks would feel different to bring in but it's the same principle really.

Although still not the same, it would a closer analogy if they were giving away free versions of the same California Grill burgers in the food court.

But I agree on the principle. We won't be going out for a refill while eating at a resort restaurant. Too many judgmental eyeballs.

I imagine there are some who fill their mugs before arriving at a TS restaurant although I've never noticed, but I have never seen someone gather a handful of mugs and walk out in the middle of their meal to refill them. Also, the TS restaurants won't fill or refill them for free.

Please don't use your refillable mug at a resort Table Service. I think people here appreciate your honest question. But what you're trying to do isn't an intended use of the refillable mugs. The refillable mugs are issued at resort Quick Service locations (food courts) and refilled at food courts and many resort pool locations. They aren't intended to be used at resort Table Service restaurants in lieu of ordering the same or similar beverage from the TS menu. Many guests at resort Table Service tables are using the Disney Dining Plan, which includes a non-alcoholic beverage. Whispering Canyon Cafe has the bottomless milk shake (free refills) and I think it's covered as a DP beverage.

If you are to WC then forget the mug and order a large drink. You'll be glad you'd.
