I don't want to sound cheap, but can you keep a mug and bring it back your next visit? I see people walking around the resort with a variety of different mugs that clearly weren't bought this year, getting them re-filled. I've never thought of doing this as I buy new mugs each time we come.

Can you bring old mugs down again?

technically, they are only good for the length of the stay you bought them for. You could probably get away using them, but somebody may say something to you, and in not to distant future, they'll have a method to detect when they were bought so they cannot be used after the original trip.

The length of stay mugs are for the length of the stay that you bought it. They are reportedly trying to "crack down" on the practice of bring back old mugs. Rumors had them adding bar codes on the mugs linked to your reservations but so far that has just been a rumor (and denied by Disney). You may get away with it but why risk the embarrassment for $10 ??

I was told when I purchased my cup in 2000 that it was refillable and could be used again at the same resort or sister resort on future trips. ( The reason I asked was that I had learned about the mugs on these boards and wanted to confirm that I could reuse them in the future!) It was a cast member who told me this.

We have always brought our mugs back and reused them and never thought we were doing anything that was inappropriate.

In fact they look quite different than the new mugs they sell now!

I plan to use them on my trip in Oct. and if they say something I will quit, however, I did ask when I purchased the original mug.

Just my own FYI, Kackie

Unfortunetly many uninformed/misinformed or just not giving a care CM's told guests just this, that they were good for ever. However officially this is not the case. I do feel sorry for those who purchased the mugs after being given this information. But in reality the mugs are a GREAT deal even if you have to buy a new one for each trip. With sodas / coffee being $2 + with less then 5 fill ups they pay for themselves and you get to keep the mug.

Buy the mugs!! They are a great souvineir if nothing else! I use mine every morning for coffee, just for a disney fix...plus, you can take them to the parks with coffee or soda, or even juice in the morning, then refill them with water all day...

Why don't you do a search over on the debate board for refillable mugs, you're sure to see every response possible!

:D

Thanks for the info......I think I must purchase some Mugs this trip or the Mug police will get me............

We bought mugs in Feb 2001, Just back from 10 days at Allstar, refilled many times. Never was a problem??? CBR99, Allstar Movies Feb 2001, Allstar Music Aug 2001, All star Movies Aug 2002.....

I have to agree with Robin--they are a great souvenir. I keep mine on my desk at work just to get a shot of 'magic' during the day. I plan to buy a new one on every trip...and I don't even drink anything but water!:earsgirl:

I got my WL mugs new on ebay months before our recent trip. Saved maybe $5 - was really looking to get psyched for our trip and have one for all of us. When I took them into Roaring Forks, some people, including the CM's, noticed that they were bigger and thicker-looking than the ones currently on sale. On CM even left the register and brought out the new ones they are selling and said I got a good one made by Aladdin - now Disney is selling thse "cheap ones" made by..?..some other company. She said next year they are all going to barcodes so which mugs you own won't matter.
Just thought I'd share that tidbit. In any case, $10.00 for barcode or not - well worth it even for a short stay.

We bought mugs last trip to Cont & signs all over said they were only good for length of stay.... BUT we also saw other guests with Millenium mugs & other styles definitely from previous visits. They were different colors, so very obviously not from this visit, but we never saw anyone have a problem using them. I gotta agree however, that for $10 I would probably just do the honest thing & buy new ones.

Popcorn to go with that cup 'o soda?

Here we go again... all I can say is that when I originally bought my refillable mug, not only did the CMs (multiple) use the "lifetime refills" as a selling point, but there were also signs that touted this when we stayed at the All-Stars.

We have a set for each different property we stay at (with the exception of the All Stars since one mug was good at all the properties). $10 for a mug may seem like a good deal for those of you who go for 7-14 or more days at a pop, but for those of us who go several times a year for a few days each time, it isn't a deal at all.

Call me cheap if you'd like, but until I'm forced to do otherwise, I plan on bringing my refillable mug. And when they officially change the policy, I'll be in the complaint line. I've spoken to a couple of managers who concede that the original policy was that you got free refills for life, or until your cup disinegrated. ;) ;)

We are staying at 2 different resorts - 4 nights CBR and 4 nights Poly. I hadn't thought about the mugs until I started reading this thread. My DH and I usually get one, so maybe we'll just get one at CBR (and we'll be 5 miles from the food court. LOL) and then one at Poly. I can't see spending $40.00 on mugs - both of us getting one at the 2 resorts. Decisions, decisions.

Anna, I almost positive you won't have a problem...the last time we went I got WL mugs because I heard they were the best (Thumbscrew tops, and wonderful!!). We stayed in DL but used the WL mugs we bought the first day for the whole trip.

Not once did I even get a sideways glance from anyone...

:)

When purchasing new mugs we were told exactly what kackie was told. Once we had asked and once we were told that without even asking.
When the rumor of the bar coding came up I email Disney. I received a phone call from the executive offices saying the official(said sort of sarcastically) thing(yes, she said "thing") is they are only good for the length of stay. However the resorts have sort of made up their own policy that if a guest has a mug it will be refilled no problem. She then repeated this in different, but similar terms.

At one time when you purchased mugs, you could reuse them. In the Port Orleans food court, they even had pictures up of the "OLD" mugs that you could use.

Not the case now though, they are only length of stay, but still worth it IMHO.

On the bar-code issue, I don't know if anyone saw this yet, but at Blizzard Beach on this trip, they sold mugs that were good for refills for the whole day, for $10. They had a barcode on them. The refill machines are set up through the park....you scan your code and then the machine activates for one refill.

I asked at the Beach Club and they said they have no plans for bar coding guests there. Maybe it's just for parks?

i just don't understand why peoplke will pay thousand sof dollars on a vaction but not budget 10 for a souvineer mug.
