I just purchased a 7 night room only reservation at the Poly. I'm not actually going to the parks. I'm just going to plop a chair next to the beverage station and yell at anyone who is using an old mug.

I'm doing my part as the moral police.

Bless you! I believe we can all sleep better tonight knowing someone is out there. If you PM me with your address, I'll FedEx my night vision goggles and cammo field uniform.

P.S. I've got a used plastic go cup from Ohana's bar you can use. :cool1:

Wrong while you were staying in the disney hotel maybe you should have read the rules they have the right to change terms at any time.

The more worrying thing about using an old mug is the high levels of toxins which leak out of old damaged mugs plastic isn't designed for the long term.Remember all the hassle about what baby bottles were made of, once they have scratches you are in effect damaging your own health. For the sake of $12 such a waste.
I also have good for life mugs from DxL....I don't use them all that much, in fact I have never returned with them..but they were sold as good forever at DxL. This was in late '99.

I have never seen a limit posted on how long the paper cup is good for.

If I purchase a drink with breakfast and return to the food court for dinner, can I use the same paper cup for my drink?

Can I walk around the pool and resort grounds and pop back in for a refill with my paper cup?
Please don't go there. It is so not the same thing. You didn't buy a refillable paper cup.

This is what we did last trip. Go ahead mug police and chastise away!
:confused3

If your mugs were sold with free refills for life, good for you! We purchased mugs at Dixie Landings in 1996 and it was stated then that it was for that visit only. I have never been fortunate to have gotten a lifetime mug but if the resort is still the same, I feel you are still entitled to free drinks. :)
And again...I have them. There was signage. And again...I don't bring them back. Couldn't be bothered.
Here's the thing...just because all of you didn't get to buy those 'good for life' mugs, doesn't mean they didn't exist. Do you think we're lying?? To what purpose??

It may be time to close this one down..it's just a continual rehashing and people are getting nasty with their comments. For the life of me, I can't see how it is anyone's business what someone else is doing with their mug. Let Disney worry about it for crying out loud.

I don't have a problem with anyone using them within the year so if someone purchased for their trip in April 2009, I wouldn't care if anyone used it again in July 2009.

But new design=you get new mugs.

My thoughts exactly...
Yes, we re-used our May 2007 mugs in December 2007.
We purchased new 2008 mugs in May 2008 and re-used them in Sept 2008.
I just purchased the 2009 mugs last month, and will re-use if we go again during 2009.
And, somehow, I manage to sleep perfectly well at night. ;)

I miss the hotel different mugs. they were good reminders of vacations

Me too. My Mara one from AKL especially - love the giraffes!

Sorry Sweetheart you are wrong.

When I purchased my mug in 1998, there was no sign, there were no rules, there was no policy. When was the first time, if ever, you visited Wilderness Lodge? Can you show anyone a policy that was posted in 1998?

The point on spending $12 is well taken. In light of the thousands spent on each visit, it is irrelevant. However, the mugs are made of a different plastic than a baby bottle, so that argument does not apply.

However, what you and several other people refuse to recognize is that Disney sold mugs at certain resorts in the '90's with a "refill for life" feature. Disney has since changed to selling mugs that have refills for length of stay. Those are different mugs of a different design, and I acknowledge the new policy and said mugs limited "life".

When WDW first opened, Florida residents were offered lifetime passes. Using your logic, Disney has every right now to revoke those passes or place limitations on them. No they can't and of course, never would. By selling the passes, they made a contract with the owners. The same, although to an incredibly less extent, holds true for the mugs sold with "free refill for life" privileges.

Like I posted previously, I don't reuse the length-of-stay mugs I purchased from Beach Club and Boardwalk. I barely use the one from Wilderness Lodge. That doesn't mean I don't have the right to use it. If I do, I don't think I am doing anything wrong.

The mugs that have been sold for the past few years are sold under the condition that they can only be refilled for the length of your stay. Nothing of that sort existed in 1998.

Too true. I also purchased a "good for life" mug at PO in 1998.

I have a problem with the saying Disney is asking you to buy a new cup. Disney is clearly telling you, via the sign, that you need to buy a new cup, unless you have purchased it during the current trip. To me, using an old mug is not any different that filling a paper cup with soda. Both things are stealing, you are just changing the vessel with which you are stealing.

I honestly don't get how this can even be debatable. The signage is clear, it shouldn't even be open for debate. To be correct one should say "There is a sign up stating that the mug is good for the current visit only, but you can get away without buying a new one." Lets be honest here.

How did you know they were good for life when you bought them?

That was the pitch I was given by the Cast Member who was working the cash. There was also a sign posted with the display but I can't quote it word for word so I won't even try.

I can't believe so many of you are so "hot and bothered" about cups. You guys do know that's this is about cups and soda right? 248 posts 17 pages - WOW!!

:rotfl::lmao::confused3

P.S. sadly enough I've read every post on all 17 pages :rolleyes1

hey...not just cups and soda...but ICE too!!!

The first mugs we purchased were from the Wilderness Lodge back in July 1994 (I believe, have to ask my kids).

There was a sign on the table next to the mugs that said if you purchased the mug you can bring it back on future visits for free refills.

My mug is a different size than what they sell now (it's much larger) and has a patent pending stamped on the bottom.

We also purchased mugs from the Contemporary. They had the same signage there. Their mugs were gray and had the patent pending stamped on the bottom of the mug too.

WDW has changed it's mug policy over the years. However, the original policy (at the WL and Contemporary at least) was purchase a mug and bring it back on your future visits for free refills. There was NO TIME LIMIT as to when you could bring it back. You could bring back the mug the next week, month, year or 50 years later. They emphasized this when pushing the mugs for sale.

I don't understand why people do not believe that WDW had this policy in place at one time. Disney used to be much kinder and generous to its guests years ago. You actually got more bang for your buck. (Does anyone remember the original Food and Fun plan?)

No, it's about right & wrong, despite the fact that Disney appears to overlook it & the cost is fairly small. To me, it's like using the office copier for my own personal business. The cost is rather insignificant, only a few cents, but it's still wrong.

I have no desire to go back and forth with you, with that said, right or wrong - it boils down to cups, soda, ice ;) and a policy that Disney DOES NOT enforce. For whatever reason, YOU and others are trying desperately to force your views (and/or values) on individuals that don't give a dog gone. For 17 pages and over 250 in just THIS THREAD, every 3 or 4 months the same question, and the same folks argue their view. It becomes redundant.

The only place this thread can go is negative. It's not that deep. The original poster asked a question. It has been answered - more than once. I can't force my views on anyone and no ONE will force their views on me. By the way, I'm the poster that stated that I have ALWAYS purchased NEW mugs for EACH of my 3 onsite visits, BUT I never take my mugs to the parks. So I'm one who might get looks as I fill up my cheapo mug. If a CM asked if I purchased I mug I could simply give them my room key (my packages comes with a mug). Although I get a kick out of reading this hot button topic, the preaching is over the top IMO. It is not my business if someone decides to bring a mug from this year, last year, or 1971.

This is a debate. No one is forcing anyone to do anything.

This is done.

Please lower your head and watch your step as you exit the thread.

If you forget to lower your head and watch your step .. then please lower your voice and watch your language..
