Refillable mugs~ Can you share?

Not here to flame ... but somebody will probably flame me.

If spending money to buy a new mug is going to prevent you... never mind.

Can't we all just get along. I need a hug!

I'll give ya a hug! and send you a cup! between me and my husband, we have 32 WDW resort cups from various trips between us!! :p :

Thanks for the hug!

Between the 4 of us, we have 12 mugs, and we'll add 4 in November.

My thought on mug sharing. Someone (Doris?) had a picture of a "mug man" who carrying a handful of mugs to the food court to fill and bring back to the room.

I think you are mixing up the "mugmen" with uh..my husband. This is him on a morning when he wasn't sure which resort we were going to to uh..pool hop (I'm ducking..you can't get me LOLOLOL!). He's been known to pop up on his share of mug debates and pool debates. If Francis hadn't waylaid us, he would have popped up on several beaches of the deluxe hotels watching the fireworks in a hammock, even though we planned on staying at the Pop this trip!

What I don't understand on these threads about mug use, is who gets to decide who the authority is. If you tell the OP; no you can not share mugs, you can not reuse mugs, you can not use a Pop Century mug anywhere but there, then you are the Mug Police. But why are those that say it's ok do all these things right and the others wrong.

Basically this is my take on it.

Go to the person selling the mugs at the resort where you are staying. Ask them if you can share. If they say fine, go for it and enjoy. If not then buy the necessary mugs. Truely no one here has the authority to tell you either way.

Now if you want to ask I know I should not do this, but will I get caught then hea, this bunch is great at helping out with that.

Truely no one here has the authority to tell you either way.

In almost all the mug threads, that is just what has been said. Ask for yourself. That's what I do. I posted what I was told when I asked. This year at Pop, was the first time I was told no. I imagine it's because Pop is new..and never sold mugs before the "rules" started to be posted on the mugs. Therefore I guess none of us would be fathered in.

Those that are saying you shouldn't reuse them..well, that is what it says on the mug and over the machines. So I understand why they post it.

don't know about any other ones but pop has it listed on the mug ...for that trip only so guess that is the official mug police statement

Help me out here.

Do you scan a bar code on a mug to get a fountain machine at a Disney hotel to turn it on? Or do you just walk up and serve yourself? The mug we purchased at Tyhpoon Lagoon back in June had a dated bar code sticker on it. You had to scan the bar code to get the fountain to turn on.

We didn't go back the next day so I have no idea if it would have worked the second day. I'm assuming no, or else why set up the bar code system. I've never purchased a mug at a Disney resort, only at the water parks and on the cruise.

If they can sell a mug that's only good for one day, why don't they sell the mug for a specific number of days, and you pay for what you use?

This isn't a flame; just a question.

Disney isn't currently using the bar code system in the resorts although there are rumors they may start.

I though you could buy a new bar code for $5 if you wanted to use your water park mug for an additional day.

the bar code is a good idea...even though it ought to be obvious to any one how the mugs are intended to be used, particularly now that some have it printed on it, before some mentioned there were signs at the fcs.which evidently many just pretended were not there.

ok, i'm getting ready with my extinguisher but it is difficult for me to understand why people do not understand that when they misuse the "perk"( for lack of a better word, ie having the whole extended family use 1 mug) it is no longer cost effective and they lose the perk.. they don't just pick a random price for the mugs, they study it and see when it becomes unprofitable so when you have 5 people using 1 mug they planned on 1 using , the profit is gone .then the same peple who abused the perk cry because it's gone:rolleyes: Disney is a "business"and wants to make money, it's not someone's"hobby". the only reason i care what anyone else does ( since i do what i feel is right) is that they mess it up for everyone!

Jann I must say that up till this point, I have practiced what you preach, and even agree with what you say!

However, I think when ANYTHING gets this much attention from guest, and the mug thing gets LOTS of attention, I think Disney should sit up and take a look at whats going on!

I personally belive that WDW should let you buy 1 mug and it be good for 1 calender year, at any park, resort, cruise or Disney location! raise the price on the cup but let me refill it all that I want!

I can almost guarentee you that I have NEVER EVER bought $11.99 worth of soda in a single trip in WDW. At their cost not inflated cost!

I guess it's like speed limits , we know they are there, we know we are supposed to obey them, just sometimes, well it just not gonna happen!

So everyone, I am gonna be the one doing 8 miles over the speed limit, and taking back my May of this years mugs back on my trip in 30 days ( whoo HOOO!!)!! You will recognize me, I will be the one NOT worrrying about what everyone else is doing!! ;)

DMRick, that was the funniest picture and caption! Looks like your husband is a good sport to pose for it... or was that taken during your last trip to Disney?

PLEASE Don't shoot or flame the messenger!

Each person will do as they see fit. I do care whether someone does or does not abide by the WDW mug policy. Below is the "official" answer from WDW.

Below is an email exchange between "WDWTrekker" and WDW.

On the many internet discussion boards that revolve around WDW, there are many discussions concerning the reusable mug program at the resorts.

Does WDW have an official policy for the use of these mugs?

The main questions are usually:

1.) Can I use the mug purchased at ABC resort at XYZ resort.
A.) If I visit it?
B.) If I split my stay and move there for the second half?

2.) Can I bring the mug from ABC resort back with me on Subsequent trips to the ABC resort forever?

Thanks for a reply as to the official WDW policy on this.

Hmmm...... lets see

I bought my mugs 3 years ago been back probably 10-15(3-5 days each time) times in that time frame. And have only had one person ever say anything to me. They still let me fill it up, but they said I need to purchase a new mug.

I know i'm a bad boy, but they still tons of money out of me anyways. I just think of it as and additional perk and I just love the coffee. And thats the only thing we use it for. Since we dont drink soda.

Not trying to shoot or flame the messenger, but there's a reason the messenger is passing along the message.

What are they gonna say? They are in BUSINESS. BUSINESS to make money and they make lots of it. If they want to stop the whole mug issue, THEY WILL. The waterparks monitor it and the resorts can too, but my GUESS is it isn't THAT big of a deal or they will stop it.

Oh and I find it awfully odd that AKL said I could use my POP mug and fill it as many times as I liked for just .50 on my Jan 2004 trip. Straight from the mouth of a CM, who then said...."that's what we are supposed to charge, but go ahead."

Again, the people that have a problem with it are HERE. I don't care who is using what mug where. I won't be saying anything about it and if no DISNEY employee does either, use away.

I've never posted in regards to the "mug" issue before. However, I did see something at our last trip that bothers me more than someone re-using a mug.... at The Mara at AKL some boys about 12/14 yrs old came in and were filling up empty water bottles with soda. I'd much rather see someone filling up last years mug than see people filling up other containers.

guessing you might just not have noticed it since it's right by the handle, lenghtwise it says"free unlimited refills from our beverage islands during the stay in which the mug was purchased" the mug has the "grand opening "star on it, we bought it in the mid. of Jan 04
