Hi, I was wondering if anyone out there can share the current types of mugs for sale at SSR. Are they Ll the ones without handles or are there both choices? (If there are only the ones without handles we plan to buy some handles for our mugs)
Thanks for any insights. We are looking forward to our October trip and would not want to be handle-less!

I'm almost positive they have no handles. SSR was the first to convert. I just got back from AKL and all the refillable "mugs" did not have handles.

Cost savings? Idk. Some say they fit better in your cup holder but they were easier to grab with the handle, especially when you had multiple mugs you had to carry around.

I think it was lower shipping/storage costs since more could fit in a box.

A bunch of people gladly commented that the new, handle-less mugs would fit better in their stroller and car cup holders.

Personally, my vehicles have accommodated handles quite well, so it never bothered me.

The handles help if you are a designated mug refiller with multiple mugs.

I think I heard that mugs with handles would return.

I saw a post saying the trial of no handle mugs had ended. If nothing else you could go to OKW and buy handled mugs there.

I just returned from SSR yesterday. They did not have any mugs with handles. I asked so I am sure. I bought one with no handles and did fine. I was worried that it would feel hot with coffee in it and no handle, but it didn't.

I confirm no handles at SSR but I did see a lot of people with mugs with Handles where they got them from?? I think (read) you can bring an old mug and reactivate it and save a few dollars?? I would email or call guest services to confirm you still can a few days before you go.

I would check the message boards again a week or so before your arrival to see if they still have the mugs without handles. The word on the street is that the new style mugs were not well-received so they will be switching back to mugs with handles once the current supply of handless mugs is sold. I have no idea if that's really happening or how long it will take if it is, but it's something to keep in the back of your mind.

Actually, I read on another message board that the company that makes the mugs uses the same size boxes and inserts whether the mugs had handles or not -- so, same number of mugs per crate either way. There was even a link to the company page to show that a case of either type of mug contained the same number of units. And according to someone "in the know", Disney doesn't remove the mugs from the boxes until they're ready to go out on the shelves, so it's not saving them any storage space, either - just allows them to maybe get a few more mugs on the display shelves.

I saw a few reports of people saying the food courts now have cardboard drink carriers for the mugs. I don't remember which resorts they were reporting from.

Yes, I've read numerous reports of people bringing old mugs back and having them re-activated rather than buying a new one (especially in the last month or so). I'm not sure if there was a price difference or not. However, I did read that someone wasn't able to reactivate their mug because the RFID chip had been damaged either due to the dishwasher or microwave (can't remember which). Just something to keep in mind if you're taking old mugs back...it's not guaranteed that they'll work. I would have thought they could just put a stick-on one on the bottom of the mug (like the paper cups have) but that wasn't the case (or at least it wasn't the case with that particular CM on that particular day. :) )

I like the mugs with handles, I use them to take coffee to work everyday. We are actually doing the dining plan this week (quick 2 day trip before our cruise and since we are doing 2 buffett meals the cost made sense) and I was looking forward to replenishing my stash of mugs. I will be pretty mad if they don't have handles! My cups get pretty warm with coffee in the morning.
