Refillable Mug questions

How big are the mugs anyway?

I just checked this. With ice a mug only holds about a can of soda (12oz). Maybe thats one of the reasons CM never comment about bringing old mugs. Pennies per serving. Though CSR does have 64oz mugs for about $20.

It was in large part because of my daughters that I stopped buying mugs. 20, 18, and 11. Only the youngest goes with me to Disney now(sometimes the middle one depending on work, school...) But a few years back when we would go they would grab a soda from the cooler instead of refilling the mugs. We took a cooler for the drive. So I stopped buying the mugs and just bought cans.

Thanks for your information. The refillable mug does seem to be less and less like a good option. Also we will only be there for 4 days and 5 nights, a really short trip.

Thanks, Lene

We stayed at POR in early June this year and did not buy a mug at the resort but we did buy one when we went to Blizzard Beach. We bought 1 mug to share between the 5 of us so feel it was worth the purchase there. I don't think it would have been at the hotel b/c we ate only 2 times in the restaurant in 6 days. Of course if they had PEPSI instead of COKE that might have been another story! :D When Opryland was here in Nashville they had the refillable mugs which was really nice.

About the water and refilling your water bottles in the park....
We found most of the water warm and yucky except at 2 locations....The fountain near Haunted Mansion was pretty good and the fountain next to the bathrooms next to Test Tract in Epcot. The water here was VERY GOOD and VERY COLD! Don't know why these 2 fountains were better than others but they were.

We always get the mugs. They may or may not be the value you expect. I use them after I get home at work. It reminds me of WDW. I have bought the mugs in the park only because I liked it not because it was a bargan. When my mug gets the worn look it is time to plan another trip to buy a new one. Another fine reason to plan a trip to WDW!!!!

I know at AK you can but a cup that gets free refills for that day. They put a sticker on it and it says that days date. I don't know about the other parks though. and the cups are huge.

where in AK can you buy these cups and what is the cost..thanks:D

Thanks for the information. I am really looking forward to the AK since it is the only park I haven't been to. I read on Allearsnet I think that it is a real treat to just tour the Lodge and you can go up on the top of it and see the animals and they have a place there where they have night vision goggles. That sounds so neat. Has anyone done that? I really wanted to stay at the Animal Kingdom but my husband wanted to stay at WL....next time AK!! Has anyone else stayed at Animal Kingdom and enjoyed it? I love animals almost better than people...and I love people.

There are refillable mugs available at Animal Kingdom theme park. You can buy them at any food place, and you can refill them all you like for the day of your visit to the park.

I think the refillable mugs are about 10 dollars, comparable to the resort refillable mug price.

I have stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and it is incredible. We've stayed there 3 times, actually--it is my one of my favorite resorts anywhere. Have really been having a craving to go back actually. My son's been asking about going back to the hotel w/ the animals :). He's four and we just love it there.

About the coffee....stayed at the Poly in June and it was still Nescafe.

Pop Century was Icee/slushies as well that you can fill up with your mug.

Just got back from the WL on Tuesday. We used our mugs from a previous visit and no one said anything. We saw plenty of people with the same ones we had. The only mugs available now for purchase are the type that would fit in a cup holder in a car, not the thicker bottom ones (like we had). If you decide to skip the mug option for drinks and forget a cooler, they do sell styrofoam coolers in the Lodge gift shop near the lobby. I think they are about $2 ($3 at the most). Refillable drinks in Roaring Forks include coffee, tea, and fountain drinks. I think you have to get cocoa packets from the cashier and then add hot water yourself. Our room was close proximity to Roaring Forks so the walk was not a hassle. If your room is on the other side of the resort, walking could be a pain (especially after walking all day). Drinks in the parks are per cup or bottle, however there are drinking fountains everywhere.

Whatever your decisions may be - have a wonderful trip and enjoy all the Magic!

We stayed at POR in May. I was curious about the mug thing since so many here on the DIS take offense to using old mugs. The CM that I asked at the food court told me that although the mugs are supposed to be good only for the length of stay, many people bring old mugs (they bought them when they were supposedly good forever) and the CM's will never say anything to them. No one will ever stop you from using an old mug. Wish I had known this as my friend gave me two Dixie Landings mugs to use on our trip and I was too afraid to use them. We bought two new mugs, and you better believe if we ever stay at POR again, we're bringing them and using them!!!!
