Refillable Mug questions

I understand that you can buy refillable mugs at each resort for about $11.00. Can you take those mugs into the sit down restaurants at the resort or do you have to buy drinks at the restaurants. We are going to be staying at the Wilderness Lodge and probably will eat several meals there.

Also, can you buy refillable mugs for the parks? I'm a water drinker but my husband drinks cokes by the gallon!

Thanks

Lene

I am almost positive the refillable mugs can only be used at the Roaring Forks Cafe at WL. I didn't see anybody with their mugs at Whispering Canyon or Artist Point.

There are no refillable mugs at any of the parks - except the water parks.

The mugs are great! I like to drink Coke too - even for breakfast!

You can only use the refillable mugs at the resort you purchased them from for your length of stay. :D

I have never heard of being able to purchase refillable mugs at the theme parks. You can purchase them at the water parks for the day of your stay.

Cokes in the park are $2.50.

Hope this helps!

Thanks a lot for the information. It sounds like you can use the refillable mugs at the "fast food" restaurants at the resort or take them with you just around the resort. Too bad there aren't any refillable mugs in the parks. But I heard they will refill your water bottles with water and ice at the parks. Is that good tasting water or florida yukky water? I will plan to take dry packets of lemonade to the parks.

Thanks Lene

We have gotten cups of ice water from counter service & it has tasted fine for us. We find that the water from the fountains has a funny taste. Some people get the Brita water bottle filters & have said they work great.

As mentioned, the refill mugs are now for LOS and suppossed to only be good at the resort purchased at.

As far as I understand it, they're only good in the food courts or Fast food locations for refills - i.e. POR-and FQ refill in the food courts,WL at Roaring Forks,Y&B at Beaches-n-cream and so on.

HTH's:wave:

We stayed at POR and bought the refillable mugs. One night we ate at Boatwrights (the sit down restaurant) and my hubby asked if they refill the mugs and our waitress said no, but you are welcome to go out to the food court and fill it and bring it in. I thought it was kind of tacky, but it did save us money and the restaurant had no problem with it. I don't know if Wilderness Lodge sit downs are of the same policy or not.

We just got back. the mugs you refer to as Park mugs are no refillable mugs-- you purchase them for the keepsake value.
Resort mugs are only good at the resort you buy them at. It is incredible how much the cost has grown. when we first began tripping to WDW, the mugs were 4.99, now they are 11.99!!

did discover that they must be serving Kona coffee at all the resorts now though. ASmo had wonderfully rich coffee--yummy.::yes::

Thanks for the good advice and information. I will ask when I get there too if you can take the refillable mugs in the least expensive restaurants. I like to save money where I can for more fun things!

Thanks Lene

As far as I understand the mugs have always been refillable only for your length of stay at your resort - but I have taken my same mugs from 1999 back every year & no one has said a word. Has anyone ever been stopped from using mugs from previous years or different resorts? It may seem petty but 4 mugs would be $50 every trip - I'd rather put that $50 towards next year's vacation!

Are the refillabile mugs for any kind of drink, like coffee, milk or juice and soft drinks? Or just soda type drinks?

Thanks lene

Mugs can be used for coffee and sodas, but I'm not sure about the juice. If juice comes out of a dispenser, then you can use the mug; but if it's sold in containers, then you cannot. Some food courts have pitchers of milk for coffee; I guess you could use that milk in the mug if you wanted milk.

I think they also offer tea and hot cocoa. Milk and juice are not included. I stopped buying the mugs because I don't see them as being cost effective at all. Unless you are a coffee drinker. When we go now we just bring a cooler and canned sodas. 12-pack will run about $3. With tax a refillable mug will cost $13.27. The same as 48 cans. Plus if you are relaxing in your room who wants to run over to the lobby to refill a mug. The cooler also works well when buying a 1/2 gal. carton of OJ. That cost about $4 as oppose to $3 for 16oz. Even if you can't bring a cooler the resorts still have the ice machines and cups in your room to use.

Have fun,
Shirley

I think you have a good point. I was wondering too about having to run to the food court to get it filled up when you weren't going to be eating there. And we do plan to bring a soft cooler. How big are the mugs anyway? It will just be my husband and myself and I usually drink water....so maybe we will just get one for my husband if we do get one. I'm not sure how often we will actually be eating at the resort either.....

Thanks for helping me think this through.

Could this be true????? Don't tease me dzneelvr!!!!! No more NESCAFE??? :crazy2: This is the first I've heard this!! Wasn't in January. This will make my day if so, because us true coffee lovers all know about the coffee!!!!:drinking1

The refillable mug would be a good deal if the coffee is something other than Nescafe or other basic "store" brand. I don't drink a lot of coffee but I do enjoy a good cup when I'm relaxing in the morning.

Something that made my husband and I laugh when we were at POFQ a week and a half ago:

We observed all the different mugs being used which included many other resorts, plain plastic ones and even one that said IAMS on it! Sitting in plain site on tables where cast members were cleaning etc. and no one ever said one word to anyone.

I pointed it out to my husband and we had a good laugh at how upset so many on these boards would be!

I bought one refillable mug at Pop Century and I don't think I got my money's worth. I had coolers with water bottles, juice and milk and got the mug for the coffee. I did not use it enough to make it worth it.

I learned my lesson. Next time, no mug!! I'll stick to my coolers. I drove so I froze the bottles, put them in the cooler, and I still had semi-frozen water after 3 days. I took several ziplock bags and refilled them with ice every morning; it kept everything nice and cold.

Just got back from the WL on Tuesday. We used our mugs from a previous visit and no one said anything. We saw plenty of people with the same ones we had. The only mugs available now for purchase are the type that would fit in a cup holder in a car, not the thicker bottom ones (like we had). If you decide to skip the mug option for drinks and forget a cooler, they do sell styrofoam coolers in the Lodge gift shop near the lobby. I think they are about $2 ($3 at the most). Refillable drinks in Roaring Forks include coffee, tea, and fountain drinks. I think you have to get cocoa packets from the cashier and then add hot water yourself. Our room was close proximity to Roaring Forks so the walk was not a hassle. If your room is on the other side of the resort, walking could be a pain (especially after walking all day). Drinks in the parks are per cup or bottle, however there are drinking fountains everywhere.

Whatever your decisions may be - have a wonderful trip and enjoy all the Magic!
