We are staying at 3 different DVC resorts during our 8 night trip- does that mean we would need to purchase mugs each time ( which clearly wouldn't happen)?
Also, I might be a bit of a germaphobe-but-is it refillable at a typical soda machine where people push their mug against the dispenser? If the mug is coming from their mouth...yuck. Or are there separate stations for those mugs? How does it work?? TIA!

The new mug policy is supposed to start shortly and new refill stations are being installed at all the resorts. You place your mug on the spot and it refills. No pushing the back side of the filler.

If the new program starts while you are there, you should be able to purchase a mug for the number of days you need up to 14. They are supposed to be able to be filled at any resort, not just the one you are staying at.

Well, while it has been rumored that the mugs can be purchased and used for up to 14 days at any resort, it's unclear at this time how split stays will be treated. I think it's assumed that the one mug will suffice for up to 14 days independent of your reservation, otherwise, if attached to the reservation, it would lock itself out at midnight of your check-out day.

Just got back from BCV the other day, If your staying at multiple resorts you dont have to get new mugs, and as of now you need to push ur mug against the soda station outlets to make it work..there were not separate stations for mug people

What do. You guys think about this situation...

We are heading down in October for a DCL cruise. We have 3 nights pre cruise booked at VGF...then the 7 day western cruise...followed by 5 nights at SSR. Will they let us link our mug purchase for the pre and post stays into one purchase??? I really hate the thought of buying two mugs not only for a cost perspective but also from an environmental point of view...I will end up throwing away the mugs...this seems SO wasteful. I certainly don't need more at home so in some ways from a Mother Earth perspective this new method bothers me. Please don't take this as I am a over the top recycler but I do try to think of ways to help the next generations.

Does Disney have some type of recycle program for those of us who do not need the mugs when our trip is over?

Ah! Good to find someone else who is bothered by the multi-mug environmental issue :goodvibes

I don't have a definite answer for your question, it really depends on how the mug rfid is set up to work. If it's linked to your reservation they will require a new set of mugs to be bought. *sigh*

What we need Disney to do is to simply price out the service and add it to our passes which we can then scan and use whatever mug we have. So, if I had a ceramic mug from the room I could use that. Doubt they'll go this way as they like the profit from the mug sales.

What I have been tempted to do is bring our mugs from home (lord knows the last 3 trips have all had the same summer design, not even anything new!) and when i buy the new mug, instead of having them clip the tag for me ask them to restock that one and allow me to use my older one. I've been too timid to try it though as I know it will cause confusion with most cashiers.... so now the cupboard over my stove is filled with the summer design... somewhere way back there are my Port Orleans and Wilderness lodge mugs. Separate topic - I miss the resort specific designs.

With the RFID issue, you couldn't even bring old mugs from home unless they already had the RFID chip and it hadn't been damaged.

You're right. I mixed up the prior non-use/and future use of the rfid time frames into the same concept.

I still think the card key or wrist band use to activate the rfid reader would be better than imbedding it in the cup. Everyone at the resort (minus infants and toddlers) has at least one chipped item be it a wristband, room key or pass.
