Refillable mug question

wait then what kind of cup does CSR get??? i wonder...

I have not seen the mug, but there has been plenty of discussion on these boards that the the CSR mug is different because CSR is a convention resort and the food court there is under different management. At least, thats been my understanding.

Is it still true that you can take your old mugs from past trips and fill them up? I went in May 02 and still have my All-Star mugs. When I go back & stay in the All-Stars do I have to buy a new mug? Just curious.

Guilty. We have never stayed anywhere except All Star hotels. While my current mugs are relatively new, I have recently seen people using the very original mugs (all white, with just the hotel logo on it). The CMs kindly look the other way.

We are going to AKL next, and we bought the DxDDP so we'll actually be getting new mugs for our upcoming trip.

The only thing that might vary may be the lid color. In 2007 there were apparently three different lid colors - blue, silver, and um, I forget; white maybe?

The other color is black. The lid and the handle are the same colors on the mugs, so you can always match up the correct lid with the correct mug. The lids are interchangable, if you are into that, but if not and you cannot sanitize between uses at least can be sure you are not swapping germs with others in your party.

This is kind of a pet peeve of mine (the reuse of the mug year after year) but I am sure that Disney will and does raise the prices of other things to make up for what is lost on the drink refills making all of us pay for people to reuse those mugs.

I am sorry if this has already been covered, I didn't see it if it was.

We will be going to WDW for our honeymoon in September and staying 8 nights at WL, then 4 nights DCL then our last 2 nights will be at AKL. We plan on purchasing the refillable mugs at WL the first day we are there. Would using them all the way through our nights at AKL be considered the "length of our stay" or would it just be the length of stay at WL?

I know we can't use them for the cruise, which is totally fine, but I am one of those people who hates being "scolded" and don't want a CM at AKL getting mad at us for using a mug we bought at WL.

Thanks!! :goodvibes

yup, whenever they depend upon the integrity of guests (mugs, DDP, passes, etc), WDW institutes a system that costs money to reduce the shortage.

raised prices is the only way to pay for additional CMs assigned to "watching" the stations, hiring programmers & purchasing machinery for a bar code system, etc. and/or WDW needs to change the "plan" by reducing benefits, more restrictions, increasing prices, etc.
bottom line is that there is no such thing as a "free ride" ~ someone is paying for it :confused3

The only people you are likely to be "scolded" by for doing this are some people here on the DIS. The mugs at each resort are the same design so there is no way for anyone to know when or where you purchased your mug (unless it was prior to when they changed all of them to the Year of a Million Dreams design).

Even so, when I was at WL in December I saw tons of people using the old mugs with the WL design on them and I didn't see anyone "scolded" even though it was obvious they had not purchased the mug on that trip since it was the old design.

What can you refill? Is it just soda? Can you get tea, juice and/or milk?

I do not believe there is milk or juice on the resort beverage islands at most resorts, but I have heard that one of the values (maybe POP?) has apple juice and frozen cokes.

Generally there is soda, iced tea, coffee, and I believe teabags and hot water for making hot tea. I also think there is lemonade (maybe light lemonade?) but I didn't have any myself so I don't know. I am an iced tea drinker.

Most CM's don't "scold" but there are a few reported cases.

One DIS'ner who replied to this very thread reported she saw it happen at her All Star resort.

From another thread:

Hi, all. My family of four drove from NJ to WDW. We spent our first night, (6/23) at All Star Music - the Jazz Building. We've never been in a value resort before, and were pleasantly surprised. The room was perfectly adequate for my family. I was expecting a shoe-box with a bed. It really wasn't bad at all. The pool was fun - but crowded. The food court was pretty good, but also kind of crowded. My kids enjoyed the large icons and the other children. They showed Pirates of the Caribbean at night, and that was fun! It really was a pleasant surprise for us.

We checked into the Wilderness Lodge on Sunday, 6/24. We got there around 8:30 a.m. - and SURPRISE - our room was ready. We were given room 6157 - inner courtyard room with bunkbeds and a fabulous view of the pool (and bay lake). We were loving it. Our last trip we had room 6145. We were able to view the fireworks from our balcony. The pool was never overly crowded, and there was always a chair available poolside. The kiddie pool was good for my four-year old - however; he liked the adult pool with the life jacket. Roaring Forks was decent, but always crowded.

They did switch over to the new mug design, and I did see the cashiers approach people using the old design.

I wasn't too fond of the food choices (or lack of). And, my 9-year old son can eat more than 4 little chicken tenders since he is almost five feet tall! So, they should re-evaluate the kids menu.

Whispering Canyon was a fun time! We ate there twice for breakfast and once for dinner. The food was really good, and we had a blast. There was always a boat within 10 minutes of us arriving on the dock. We always managed to miss the bus we needed, but never waited more than 15 minutes for the next one. The biggest problem was trying to leave Epcot at night and having to wait for three busses before we could board.

Funny enough, every time I walked through the halls at the Lodge, I always felt like I was the only one there!

Oh, and I received five towel animals during my stay!

Any ?'s, please ask.

At our stay at the Wilderness Lodge, my husband and I mostly drank coffee. We bought the mugs for our daughter and my neice, but I was disappointed that their only choices were coffee and tea of course, soda, and hot chocolate. I would have liked it if they could have gotten juice or milk.

When I asked if they could get milk, I was directed to the machine that dispensed coffee creamer! Imagine drinking a mug of that! If it had been dispensing real milk, ok, but the fake cream? Yuck!

The CSR mug has the 3 caballeros on it in front of a sign that says Pepper Market. On the top it says Coronado Springs Resort, and has a blue lid with basically a white cup except for the artwork. When we went from CSR to WL a couple of weeks ago, we were told we couldn't use our CSR mug there. The CSR mug is a little fatter than the ones they had at WL. So, since we had a rental car, whenever we drove past CSR, we stopped in for a refill.

I always just kinda raised my mug in a salute to the cashier as I walked past the lines of people paying. ;)

This is what we do.

And this pic is from Buzz's site. I hope he doesn't mind me linking it here. Here's what the CSR mug looks like:

anyone know what drinks Mara(AKL) has? Im not a soda drinker, lemonade, or fruit punch would be good...

when we were at POFQ I saw people using POP mugs, old POR mugs, even paper cups that had seen better days:rolleyes1 Im not saying it's right Im just saying thats what I saw. No one said anything...

I guess Disney relies on the honesty, and integrity, of guests to abide by the rules.

We will buy a new mug in 2008! :thumbsup2

Why? To me... using a 2007 mug (that was good for our length of stay) is stealing... no different than me walking in and getting a bottle of soda and walking out without paying!

When I go to McDonald's I can get refills on my soda/iced tea for that day... I would never bring the cup back when I go for lunch there the next day!

They are only $13.00, they make a nice souvenier, you can fill them as much as you desire on the trip you are on... why not be honest? :confused3

I don't see why people want to reuse old mugs :confused3 . It isn't like they are charging an outrageous amount of money for the mugs and they make decent (and cheap) souvies once home. The policy for the mugs and how they should be used are clearly written on the mugs and on the refill stations. People should just budget the $12-13 for mug into the cost of their trip, heck you'll spend more than that at McD's for morning buscuits and coffee. And while some people say "it doesn't cost WDW anything" well like a pp said, there a lot of other costs beside the syrup associated and if WDW loses money by people reusing mugs or abusing the system they'll make up the cost elsewhere. I really wish they'd go back to resort specific mugs because they made better souvies than the generic looking mugs.

As for what types of drinks are available - the refill stations usually have the basic sodas, sometimes apple juice, coffee, tea, and hot cocoa.

I realize this thread is a few months old, so I'm not sure if you'll see this or not, however, in the event you do, know that when you go on the Disney Cruise, non-alcoholic beverages are included in your cruise cost as long as you get it from the Deck 9 dispenser or order from the dining room. If you order a soda at a bar or from room service, then you will be charged.

As a business owner I can tell you there are a lot of hidden costs in that mug of soda.

Even if the syrup is free there are still other expenses I am sure that are not covered

Such as the cost to carbonate the syrup ,the cost of the dispensers. the cost of the ice, the cost to deliver the syrup, the pay for the CM's setting up the machines, the electricity to run the machines, the cost to maintain the dispensers, not to mention the cost of liability insurance in case of a lawsuit from a "slip and fall".

I am sure there other expenses I am missing but I assure you there are a lot of "hidden costs" in that mug of soda and even pennies tend to add up when hundreds of thousands of mugs of soda are dispensed weekly.

JMHO

:thumbsup2 An opinion shared by many!!

McDonald's is also a very large company, and they don't offer complimentary beverages for being a repeat customer. :)
