Refillable Mug Poll

How often do you buy refillable mugs?

  • Every trip -- that's the rule

  • When the design changes

  • Never -- I have been using the same mug for years (I know you're out there!)

  • When the mood strikes me and I like the new design

  • I just drink from the soda fountain -- no mug for me!

Hi all! My husband and I always like to have a souveneir mug when we go so we like to get a new one. I was wondering if the style is any different from last years design? -There is a picture of it below- We are going to park hop this year and I was hoping that the Beach Club Resort would have a different one. I would love to have one with their name on it. (sigh) I love Year of a Million Dreams, but I do NOT like their resort mugs!

I am curious... for those that think it is absolutely OK to take back your mugs... would you take a cup from a previous McDonald's trip back and refill it the next time you go to McDonalds? :confused3

No, of course not! :goodvibes

Why? Because it was for that one time only, that trip to McDonald's when it was purchased.

Why is it different at WDW?

You purchase it for the "length of stay in which it was purchased" and that is it.

I cannot even imagine taking ours back and using them this year... to me that is stealing and I definately would not want my child to get the impression that stealing is ever OK!

Believe it or not, I know someone who has done this!! At least it was on the same day, but still, wow, LOL. I couldn't believe anyone would do that. :rotfl: :confused3

And to make matters worse, this person had a cup of water the first time around, free, but refilled the cup with soda later in the day. :rolleyes1

In Feb. DH and I took ME to POP and our bus driver was telling the passengers about the mugs. He TOLD us to bring them back year after year!! :lmao: I thought of the board and how he'd go over here!

BTW, DH and I will always buy new!

Between Sept 18 and Sept 30, we will be staying at WDW with DDXDP with three spilt stays. That means we will have 3 mugs per person to pack at the end of our trip. That's a lot of mugs! We are staying at the BC and AK so we won't be far from the drink stations at either. I would rather just have 1 mug for the entire stay if that was possible. I usually don't get the mug, but my DSis does. I don't drink coffee only diet coke and that is from a bottle. I don't like to carry anything around the park. I personally don't care if someone reuses their mug from previous trips. To each their own!

Can I pry... Do you have to buy tickets for each separate package to get the dining? Or is it a DVC thing where you don't have to purchase the full package? No biggie, was just wondering if you ended up with a bunch of tickets for future trips?

I voted other because I haven't ever bought one, but I don't hit the soda fountain either. I figure when we're there, we should be pushing as much water as we can. So we pack bottled waters in the suitcase. The magical thing is, once the water's gone, there's room for sourvenirs! Woohoo! :rotfl: No, in all seriousness though, we wouldn't drink enough soda to make the mug worthwhile.

Not worth it for coffee either. I bring my own espresso maker and French press from home.

I think that the way you've worded the poll is rather biased. If you wanted an honest (no guilt / bias) answer, you would have made the options as objective as possible. IE "every trip - thats the rules!" some people might not be aware that the rules do or don't actually state that.

We buy new mugs for each trip. I'm a "goody-goody" who has to follow the rules, or lightning might strike me dead! :scared1:

I have bought a mug every trip. This past October, were on the dining plan and I bought a mug but almost never had to use it. It was a total waste of money. I wish I had known that I woudn't really be needing it while on the dining plan.

Right back to the top again. We've bought them when on DDP and used them a lot. It's different for different people. I always buy them because it's a nuisance bringing them back again!

popcorn::

I got one once.

You have to wash it out in the little room sink, which is not only a pain, but requires dish soap.

You have to go all the way to a food court to get a few ounces of pop.

If you stop at a food court on your way to a park, the little bits of pop on the edges and bottom of the cup sit and get gunky in the car, making them harder to clean.

And you have to remember to bring it back into the hotel. Not to mention the fact that you can't stop for more pop on your way back in because the cup is gunky, requiring a trip back to the room to wash the blasted thing and then another trip to the food court.

Waaaaaaaaaay too much work for me.

ITA!! We just get a 6 pack of Coke for DH to drink and leave it in the room fridge. He's the only one who wants soda, anyway- DD and I drink bottled H2O and bring along the little packets of flavorings.

When we went last August there was a wash area to rinse the cups near the drinks dispensers.

I buy new ones each trip. I loved it when they had resort specific ones - it was a great souvenir of your resort. But we use our at home between trips -- by 2 years of using and cleaning in the dishwasher, they need replaced. My dd24 doesn't use hers - keeps them all nicely lined up in her room.
Mine from POP is at work -- I use it for hot chocolate when it gets chilly in there (we wear sweaters/sweat****s all summer long).

My 2 cents...

I know that everyone doesn't have the luxury of making a grocery stop on the way to WDW, but buying a few 12 packs of pop and a case or two of water is a much better option than the refillable mugs.

OK..Here are my thoughts.

I have purchased the refillable mugs and reused them on subsequent trips. IMO, it costs quite a bit to go to WDW and this is one way to feel like you have gotten a good deal on something. If Disney wanted to stop people from doing this, they could implement the barcode system that they use on the refillable mugs a Typhoon Lagoon. Since they haven't done that, I assume they aren't too worried about it.

We are DVC members, so when staying at a DVC property, I haven't found the mugs to be that useful, especially at the Boardwalk. We usually by a few cases of soda at the Hess station on property. I have never paid more than $6 for 2 cases there.

As for the Typhoon Lagoon refillable mugs, they are huge! They have a barcode on them that only works that particular day. You scan the barcode on the mug at the soda fountain and fill your mug. I recently found out that you can bring your mug back with you on another trip and they will sell you a new barcode sticker at a substantially lower price. This saves money and if more eco friendly than buying another plastic mug that will eventually end up in our waste stream.

Just my thoughts on the matter.....:)
