>> Refillable Mug FAQ <<

My daughter got great use out of our mugs taking tea to school this year, yay! Unfortunately, they are all tea stained now. Any tried-and-true tricks for freshening the inside of the mugs?

This may have been asked before but are the mugs insulated, or do they stay cold or warm for some time?

We will have refillable mugs at All Star Music.

My sister likes her coffee in her travel mug and plans to use refillable mug for soda.

Does she have to use the refillable mug with a chip to get her coffee then transfer the coffee to her travel mug?

Or, can she just her travel mug to get her coffee?

Only the fountain drinks require the chip, so she will be able to easily fill her own mug with coffee.

THey are insulated (plastic double wall), but the insulation isn;t great. So, for example, they do not at all compare to the Thermos travel mug, which can keep tea hot for a number of hours. But they are better than a Starbucks or McDonalds default paper cup.

Are there herbal teabags available for (hot) tea or just black/breakfast tea?
Ta :)

I'm sure this is answered somewhere - are the "new" mugs dishwasher safe. Very excited for our first onsite stay in a few years. We use our prior Disney mugs every day for coffee in the car. I am down to two! Looking forward to adding to our stash!

In the past there was no refill station at the Treehouse Villas at Saratoga Springs. Has this changed?

The mugs are dishwasher safe. I've washed ,ime n the dishwasher many times and they haven't faded at all. :)

There is no refill station at the THV. You'll need to go over to Artists Palette or maybe the Paddock pool.

Just remember if you wash the cups in the dishwasher it kills the chip, so you would not be able to 'renew' the chip on future trips.

What do they do if you ...accidentally....kill the chip during your stay?
You buy a new mug? Even with a receipt, how do you prove that mug was purchased at that time? They aren't dated and the chip is dead.

I may just bring my last years mug to put coffee in. We will be getting new mugs and I can just use them for sodas.

Every sales receipt from WDW has a date when the item was purchased. If the mug was charged to the room then there would be a record of the date of the transaction. Finally assuming no receipt or charge record, if the guest spoke to a manager and explained the situation I am sure that the guest would receive a new mug.

This happened to my daughter and me last week. I have no idea why our mugs stopped working -- it didn't happen to anyone else in our room. I tried them on several different drink stations, different drinks, etc. and nothing would work. I took them to the cashier and explained that they suddenly stopped working. I told him I had the receipt in my room and that they had been purchased 2 days earlier. He just took them and re-activated them -- never even asked for the receipt. They worked fine for the rest of the trip.

The problem is that the mugs are all the same.

So you could bring an old mug, show your receipt and say it is the new mug.

They would probably give you a new mug, but it shouldn't be as simple as that.

Just don't microwave the mug until after it has expired.

The new mug design came out about 7-8 months ago so it would be obvious if someone was trying to bring back an old mug and pass it off as a current one. Most visitors won't have the new mug design yet so it would be obvious if they were trying to pass off an old mug as one purchased on the current visit. I don't think Disney is overly concerned about a few random guests trying to scam the system by going through the trouble of hunting down a manager to get new mugs because their current ones don't work. When ours didn't work and the cashier set them on the activation unit he said, "I can see you just bought these the other day..." Oddly, after he reactivated them, they had an expiration date of 8/2/16....6 weeks after our check-in/activation date. I could have easily handed them off to someone else checking in when we were leaving and they could have used them throughout their stay.

Obviously you would be surprised at the number of people that go to WDW multiple times a year.

Keep in mind they will keep those mugs for a couple of years. At least it was that long the last time. We have two sets of mugs with the same picture.

Yes, they will reactivate them, but keep in mind if you microwave it, the chip may no longer work. Which means that they can't reactivate it. Yes, they might replace the mug once for you. But if you keep on doing it, chances are, they won't do it again.

The simple solution is to not microwave the mug.
