Hello all. My family is heading down in 2 weeks :Pinkbounc I fully intend to listen to the DVC pitch while there, although if to buy, I would probably want to buy resale to get the Home resort I would prefer, not Saratoga Springs. First, am I on base here, or does it really matter?

Second, I have some friends who own, don't know which Home. Should I call them and see if there is a referral program? Would I be better off this way, should I choose to buy thru Disney and not resale?

I have so many hangups about it. I love the part about belonging to such a CLUB, but I also feel that perhaps the DVC is like a distant outcast to the deluxe hotels. I just got back from BC club level, and feel it can't be better than that in terms of service. I like being close to the action, and feel like a studio/villa beause of the kitchen dis=associates you from the main hotel.

PLEASE share feelings about this, as I am about to TRY to make a decision while at the world in October.

Many thanks. :confused3

You can still get into the other resorts directly from DVC . Depending on amount of points and where you may have to waitlist.

Use your friends as a referal reguardless they may get something . Different states allow different things. They also have different referal things going on all the time.

I loved our first stay at SSr and look forward to stays at all the DVCs . I liked not having room service everyday .But thats just us.

You can pay for additional services but to compair to Delux Club level is not going to happen but you do pay way more for that.

Studios only have a kitchenette ( Mirco ,fridge, coffee pot) .

Good luck

You are asking good questions.

Do not expect your DVC resort to be like BC Club level. DVC is a vacation home. Mousekeeping does not come every day, for example (though you can pay $25 per day for it if you choose). When something is amiss at BC, they will bend over backwards for you--move you to a new room (usually with an upgrade), etc. If something goes wrong while at BCV...well, they will certainly try to fix the problem, but you may not be moved, the problem may not be able to be resolved while you are there, etc.

No one can really say whether one is better than the other because you are comparing apples to oranges.

At the deluxe resorts/concierge levels you will definitely be pampered far more than at a DVC resort. However, nothing can beat the amount of space you get in those villas! So, it is a trade off. Both the regular delxue hotels and the DVC properties, however, have great pools, resort amenities, onsite table service restaurants, etc.

Thank you for the quick replies. I am anxious to hear from others to...

I'm probably not accurate is saying I am comparing Club level to a villa, but a standard room in a deluxe hotel, for sure.

My additional concerns are quality of views, balconies, and a certain feel of comraderie with fellow vacationers, going to the restaurants, etc.

Maybe I should try a stay a one first. Has anyone done this?

Thanks to all who are helping me make this big financial decision... :yay:

Many here have rented a reservation from a DVC member to "try it out" before they made their decision. There are many who have purchased site unseen.

Given your concerns about "quality of views, balconies, and a certain feel of comraderie with fellow vacationers, going to the restaurants, etc." it sounds to me like you should definitely rent at least once before you decide. It also sounds like the hresort choice willb e important.

FWIW, if view is very important to you, DVC may not be a good fit. While all of the resorts have some good views (and virtually all have balconies or patios), getting a "primo" view is far from guaranteed. For example, none of the BCV units have a view of Crescent Lake or SAB. Some have a view of the Villa quiet pool. Some have a view of IllumiNations (and the woods between EPCOT and the BCV) from the balcony. However those also overlook a road and some have complained of the road noise.

Best wishes -

By all means, contact your friends who are members. There is currently a referral incentive that would lower your initial purchase $15 per point (but that is only available at SSR).

You should definitely visit the resort you are interesetd in purchasing to get a feel for the atmosphere. Especially if you stay in a 1BR (or larger) villa, the accommodations are superior to even the club level rooms - the difference is only the lack of personal service available at DVC resorts during your stay.

Daily housekeeping is available however for an additional fee - if that is of importance to you, but there will not be any Concierge food options. Every onsite DVC resort does have a Concierge desk at the resort to assist with dining reservations, admission tickets and to answer any questions you may have.

I'd suggest a careful assessment of the accommodations - but as already noted, if a specific view is critical to your enjoyment, DVC may not be a good match for your family.

Enjoy!

I'm getting good stuff here. I think I will check out the rental thread. I wouldn't be doing another stay (after this brief 4 night stay in AKL in Oct), until Sept, and I kinda had my heart set on BC again. However, I will look into anyone who can accomodate a stay there at that time. Maybe I can split my stay and do hotel and DVC. Decisions, decisions... :confused3

I like sharing the king bed in the master bedroom with my husband. Our son sleeps on the sleeper sofa. We have brought family and friends - always have had a wonderful trip - and got a two bedroom. We still get the master. Our son still sleeps in the LR on the sleeper sofa.

There just is nothing like getting up early in the morning and heading out in my PJs to the porch at OKW with a glass of juice or cup of hot chocolate, maybe a croissant or roll and watch the sun come up, listen to the birds sing (yeah, maybe listen to the grounds crew mow the grass), and take in the atmosphere.

Two double beds just don't do it for our family. Even two queens don't make for the best stay in the world.

We've done concierge level at AKL and GF and thought it was nice. But I'd take that OKW porch over that any day.
