Redwood Creek Challenge Trail Zipline?

Last time we were in CA the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail was closed for refurb so we didn't get to check it out. I just read that there is a zip line, which I didn't know. Does anyone know about how long it is? Is there an extra charge, long wait? Sounds like something my DS10 and DS8 would love, is it worth a try or a waste of time?

IIRC, it's a pretty tame zipline. I don't know the exact age group it is specified for, but when we were there last, my kids were just barely 10 and 7. They enjoyed it, but I'm not sure if they will want to do it again on our next visit.

It doesn't move you off the ground or high up at all. It is more like a mini-zipline you would find at a school playground or park, just a bit more fun. To get going, the kids have to pick up their feet at the start in order to not drag on the ground, and then the ground is hollowed out a bit lower in the middle. They work up a little speed on the way down, but it doesn't move too fast. It ramps uphill at the end to slow down and stop. I'm *guessing* it's about 50 feet long -?-

When we were there, there were children at a younger age up through the ages of my kids, and it was probably a 5 minute wait. There is no extra charge for the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail as a whole. It is a cute place to explore even if you don't do the zipline. It can be a nice break from the crowds.

Look out for Dug roaming around - he snuck up behind me and scared me to death! He was really cute.

it's just little, no cost, just part of the playground. DS is 11 and has always done it a few times each visit over and over again. He will probably grow out of it soon.

Like other posters have said, it is quite tame. It's a rope with a disc on the bottom that you sit on. You walk yourself maybe 15 yards up a little hill and then hop on and slide back down. That being said, it is an entertaining area or active kids and your kids would likely enjoy climbing around all of the rope structures. Definitely check it out

Unfortunately, adults can't do the zipline; only children up to age 12, and I'm not sure of the height, but it does look fun

It's fun! But nothing to get super hyped about. Honestly I never even thought of it as a "zip line". My 6 yr old DD loves it and on low crowd days will do it over and over and over again. Your kids will most likely enjoy it, especially the 8 yr old, but don't go getting too excited over it.

My question is, my 12 year old is a bit tall for her age, would the CMs give her a problem with trying the zip line out, even though she is at maximum age? Also, is there a seating area where DH and I could sit down and relax while the girls go off and explore the area? Thanks for the info.

The 12 year old if tall may be too tall for it- from the Disney site:

Sequoia Smokejumpers Training Tower (zip line) has a height requirement of a 42 inches (106 cm) minimum and 63 inches (160 cm) maximum.

There are videos on youtube of it. My daughter loved it at age 5 and 6- beyond that it isn't that much fun...

Thanks for the quick response...I had a feeling that she would be too tall for it, I blame DH and I for the tall genes that we gave her . She'll be fine with not going on it, just as long as she can do the rest of the trail .

The whole area is geared for younger kids- make sure she sees pictures and videos before you go so she doesn't build it up as being something super cool and then gets there and it is a little young and boring for her. My 12 year old is taller than me (she will be 13 in May) and she would enjoy walking through the rope bridges and such but the rest she would think is for younger kids... Hope this helps!

Thank you for the tip....she has been going on YouTube and viewing the different Disneyland rides and attractions to get geared up for our trip, not sure if she viewed this trail or not. I think we will go and check it out anyways, and if they both think it looks "uncool" or "lame", then we will do something else. However, my girls do like walking across rope bridges, so maybe just spending a few minutes in this area could be fun, plus if we can see Doug, that would be an added bonus .

We almost skipped the area entirely, but wandered in there late on the last morning we had in the parks. Maybe it's because I hadn't done any research on the area and had zero expectations ... but I thought it was a bit of a hidden gem. I mean, I wouldn't try to get there at rope drop or anything ... but if you have time, give it a whirl. My girls were 7 and 9 at the time of our visit.
