redweek timeshare rentals???

This is a non-Disney year for us, and I'm thinking of either Williamsburg VA or Washington DC.

I heard about redweek.com, where you rent someone's timeshare for a fraction of what you would pay at a hotel. As a family of 5, rooms can get expensive, since they typically hold only 4 people. So, for example, we could get a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo at the Marriot at Ford's Colony for $200 a night.

They say that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Has anyone ever rented through redweek?? Any comments or cautions?

We used redweeks to get a condo (in Branson, MO) in October. That was the only time we have ever used it but it was great. We paid significantly less through them than any other place we looked. If you haven't checked it out already, be aware that you have to pay a fee to use the service (it is small, I think $15 or $20 for a year's subscription). You will be working with an individual owner, so I am sure there are differences in the amount of communication you get, etc. The family we rented from was AWESOME!

I've done some research since I posted last night, and everything I've read agrees with you.

I paid the $15 to become a member, giving me access to the reviews.

redweek.com also has an ebay version for set vacations. They are "redweek4less" on ebay. I got a Wyndham 2 bedroom in Washington DC last April for $550/week.

By "set vacations" I mean these are booked vacations for specific dates that can't be changed.

You may also want to check out the Timeshares Users Group (TUG, www.tug2.net). They have a section for rentals and it's free to browse and contact owners.
