Does anyone know if sit-down restaurants will be offering straws, either paper or plastic, upon request?

I had dinner at LeCellier on Sunday and asked for a straw; waiter said Disney wants guests to request them now, instead of always providing without asking. He was happy to bring them over to us. It was a standard plastic one.

why don't they do what Starbucks is pushing towards, a strawless, recyclable lid that you can sip from or place a paper straw in?

Remember that “recyclable” is in the eye of the recycler. In my local area, NO lids of any kind are recyclable.

And I’m in land-o-Starbucks.

This lack of lids and cups bothers me more than it should! It drives me crazy. I like to carry a drink with ice in it in the stroller cupholder and sip on it for a while after we eat, and with no lid this is impossible. Plus it's much harder to carry multiple drinks. Again, I don't know why, but it irritates me a lot more than I feel it should. I want my darned lid and straw (the straw can be paper, I don't care, I just want one!)!! Sometimes it's little things more than big things that get under your skin and make lasting impressions .

OK, I feel a little better now, until my next trip and I don't get a lid and straw I keep meaning to take a pile with me in by bag from locations that still have them (as of our last trip), but of course never remember.

I totally agree with you. I have a specific way I like to drink a drink in a cup and it takes me awhile, so I want a lid and straw. I will just buy a bottled beverage or bring my water bottle instead of buying drinks in cups. Or I'll just stick to grey goose slushes. I can drink these pretty fast for some reason

Bring one of the gajillian refillable mugs from home and throw in bag which now has to be brought since the shops are also doing away with plastic bags for your purchases. I won't be bringing either and won't be buying anything in parks now, drinks or souvenirs... so that's solved.

Years ago I used to debate with my online grrls about the "dirty nasty cigarettes" and residue (butts and spent matches) they were up in arms about. I reminded them that one day those same laws they were promulgating could be used to penalize obese people on public transports, the use of throwaway plastics and other aspects of modern life.
Gosh, I was right.
I'm not having a straw meltdown since it's a minor 1st world problem. Use paper straws or reusable sippy type cups and move on.

You know what would be cool...if you could buy an add-on for your resort mug to refill it in the parks. That way, fewer cups, fewer straws, less damage to the environment. I'm convinced people would pay it. And non-resort guests could be offered a mug to buy.

So, anyone besides me planning on packing straws and lids on their next vacation? I read on the link provided by OP that standard coffee lids will fit these cups. I'd much rather toss a couple in my purse than spill drinks. We're not the most graceful, even with lids

just remember that straws have never been allowed in Animal Kingdom. we have had straws taken off juice boxes by security there. when we asked sippy cups with attached, nonremoveable kind, were okay. it was for safety of animals
