Hello again!
Has anyone taken a taxi in St. Thomas from the port over to Red Hook and ferried over to Cruz Bay (St. John)? ... My son is going to earn his 62nd National Park Jr. Ranger Badge on St. John and we were wondering the cost of the taxi from the port in St. Thomas over to Red Hook. I think it's about $10-$15/pp but just wanted to see if someone had done this to confirm pricing! :-) (I have the ferry schedule and cost) Thanks!

Yes, we have done so many times and your price is correct. A reminder to ask for a taxi that is not making other stops if you are on a tight schedule. Congrats to your son, what a beautiful place to receive such an honor. Enjoy your trip.

Another question if possible ... Did you pay in US $$ ... I'm assuming since it's the USVI everything is in US currency? Thanks! Cheers!

Yes, everything is US dollars. Is this your first time to St. John? We have only been on day trips while on cruises but we love it so much that we are spending a week there at the end of May. I'm so excited! We are headed to Disney after that for a week but it's St. John I'm most looking forward to.

Also, unless something has changed recently, be advised that the Cruz Bay ferry ticket counter at Red Hook (the first counter to your left as you walk into the terminal) does not take credit cards. You'll need to carry enough cash to cover all legs of your journey. You will probably pay $12pp round-trip for a jitney cab at Cruz Bay, too.

Hi! Yes! This will be our 1st time in the USVI and BVI! We are very excited to explore St. John! Would love to hear about your trip when you get back!
Cheers!

THANK YOU for the heads up! Also, do you usually ask for your cab driver to meet you back at Red Hook when you plan to arrive later in the day? Meaning, do you set a time in advance to meet the cab after your day in St John so the cab is there after your ferry ride back from Cruz Bay to Red Hook? OR are there plenty of cabs available?

No, there are plenty of vans to take you back, and there is usually someone there coordinating the process and telling you which van to board. Very quick and easy.

I had done some research about this - I don't remember the site, but I was able to find a visitors site for St. Thomas that said the ferry runs about once an hour each way. We are planning an October 2017 cruise, and our daughter will also be getting her Junior Ranger badge - so happy to see fellow National Park "geeks" (as my daughter calls me after listening to a talk about Theodore Roosevelt at TR National Park :)).
Thanks for the question - I was wondering about some of this as well!!

Oh, and I saw a $5 per person entrance fee at the park itself if you plan on any hikes.

I'm THRILLED to see someone else as well!!! Thanks for the heads up on the entrance fee! We do have a National Parks Pass for the year :-) I know your cruise is a bit away but feel free to PM me as it gets closer if you have any questions ... We are traveling this June :-) Cheers!
