Well poop. My family and I are headed home in August. I love DVC and signed on because it truly is our happy place. However, I'm thinking, there are many that look forward to incentives.. we so don't. We DVC'ers are a big fan base but I'm thinking they don't give a fig about us. Are we offered disney dining for our stay, yeah no. Jumping off my soap box, just being pissed. I love my DVC but hating it none the less. I feel like they don't give a tinkers damn.

You always have the option of renting out your points & securing yourself a rack rate, free dining reservation through CRO. Can't imagine that would be a better deal for you, but maybe if you price it out, you will see how NOT FREE, that free dining really is! :)

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards App, please excuse any typos or autocorrects!

Although I understand your frustration, in the larger picture, we were never truly guaranteed anything but deluxe accommodations for the length of our contract. To play devil's advocate, if I were a DVC executive, I would point out that the ability to stay in wonderful suites for the 30 or more years of a contract while paying a reduced fee for those rooms is quite an incentive. Taking off the executive hat, I would echo what DannysMom said above, that the incentives such as free dining truly aren't free since you must pay rack rate. Does DVC offer side benefits as much as we'd all like? No. Do we still get some perks? Sure. Would I love to see more? Oh, yes! In the end, however, we enjoy our trips to WDW based simply on the accommodations we've had. Anything else is a bonus. :thumbsup2

In order to get free dining, you have to purchase a full vacation package from disney......hotel room, park tickets, and dining. As DVC I got a PAP for $399 which is cheaper than the tickets I would get in that package, my room is a deluxe resort not a value or moderate that I pay much less for (must pay full rack rates to get the dining).

When you sign, they've got you, Disney no longers needs to entice you to stay there and spend your money! As for me, as a DVC Owner, it's about the 2bd villas, staying on-site and enjoying some of the perks (discounts) at the various stores and restaurants I like to frequent!

I buy AP's at a discount, I have the TIW card, make few ADR's (don't like to eat 3 meals a day in restaurants, so free dining etc. has no appeal for me!

The biggest incentive is that 'it is truly your happy place'.......

But you can always buy the TIW card which can save you a lot of money if it is dining that has you all upset.

Heres the thing I have been thinking about lately, I love the IDEA of DVC, the reality of it not so much.
I currently have DVC reservations for 6 people 2 adults and 4 "Disney Adult" kids over 10 and I priced Dining and tickets for our stay there and compared it to, Booking 2 value rooms with free dining (upgrade from quick included in price), the same tickets, and it is $366 cheaper And includes 2 ROOMS!! And A Moderate resort saves you $163. I haven't seen any "Perks" that equal that savings per trip!! Throw some Free Fast Passes in for each trip those are invaluable, they save us time, and allow us to do more. I say 2 per person per day of the trip. Its free to DVC!! And would make our Membership more valuable.
Has Anyone else priced DVC and the same DVC room with free dining? Yep non DVC is cheaper when you figure in dues and points cost!! How did we not see this before? They say " how much do you spend on an average vacation" and we all tell them what we spend for room, dining, and tickets, when DVC only offers us a room and we pay Full price for dining plans and tickets unless we buy annual passes, but how many days do you get off per year, or how many plane tickets can you afford for multiple trips, and better yet how many points do you have to make these trips long enough or comfy enough to justify the annual pass?
Over all I say give us free dining too, or don't offer it to anyone. Its not fair to us to pay more and receive less.

See I don't see the same way. I have become a Disney hotel snob and I can not stand to stay in the values :scared: And really not a fan of the Moderate hotels either.

So the little extra that you are saving.... I will take DVC any day

Agree 100%! When you feel like you are getting the short end of the stick, just go price out cash value for your next DVC stay and you will remember you don't have it that bad.

This is not a comparison to apples to apples. DVC rooms are better than moderate rooms and should be compared to Disney's other deluxe resorts. In addition, they have washers, dryers, and kitchens in the larger units. (This alone saves money).

And, free dining, is not 'free'. To get free dining, you are paying the full amount for your accommodations.

I don't think this is about 'fairness'. But just for the record, I do believe DVC members are 'getting more'.

But I do agree with you about doing away with free dining because it packs the restaurants making 'paying' customers have less of an experience and makes people feel things are not 'fair'.

It is what it is but most people don't know what it is until they have owned for awhile.

DVD is a business that sells timeshares, that's where they make their money. They also get paid to provide support functions to the owners. It really isn't a club, after the sale things change.

Owning can save you money on your room depending on what you paid, how often you vacation at Disney and if you really want what DVC offers.

:earsboy: Bill

But, to those who want free dining, go ahead, nothing is stopping you from fitting in those trips in between the ones you take using your points! However, if this is the "most" important thing to you, more so than your DVC ownership, then consider selling your points!

Personally, even if dind't own DVC, "free" (if there is such a thing) dining would still not appeal to me. We are not eating Disney restaurant food, 24/7 , 3 times a day, every day on vacation! I bought DVC for the kitchen and the W/D, or else I wouldn't have bought! I'd continue staying in hotel rooms, fewer days of course, because I hate hotel/restaurant living!

I guess I fit the timeshare mold!

I did compare the same exact room I was getting with DVC paying out of pocket for dining and tickets, with actually booking the same room with Disney directly the only difference was free dining included and the free dining with the same package was cheaper for the SAME room!! I to enjoy the DVC hotels and that is why I purchased my DVC points but after all is said and done if I can book the same room with free dining and tickets cheaper than what my points, annual dues, dining plan, and tickets per trip cost why not do it that way? I too love my DVC just with free dining in play we are not saving money! And the annual passes are only good for family members so we have to pay per trip for any guests.

I do enjoy the hotels and in the future when I am older and am not in the parks as often as I am now I will be able to enjoy the hotels more. But currently I see no reason to cook and clean like I do at home while on vacation, that is not a vacation. When I am older and use my DVC more as a vacation HOME instead of a Hotel I am sure I will be much happier, as I will be traveling to other destinations within Florida. Currently Disney is our destination. So Until Im ready to Not visit the parks as often (don't know when that will be) I think we need more affordable options. DVC is in Danger of out pricing themselves, IF people do the math.

Can you share your numbers? I'm having trouble seeing how a 2 bedroom villa booked through CRO with free dining is cheaper than the value of a 2 bedroom on points.

A two bedroom at rack rate plus tax, plus tickets (with tax) for all six guests with free dining is cheaper than using points and paying for dining and purchasing your two day ticket anywhere you want? In that case, pay cash for that stay and rent out your points to pay for it. But I wouldn't stay in a value or moderate more than a night or two versus my DVC one bedroom villa.

I agree. I was going to ask the same question because I think there is something wrong with those calculations or else I don't understand what two things are being compared.

And I think that's where the division is for many people. I never thought that DVC ownership would save me money and it hasn't! I bought DVC to be on-site, in a 2bd/GV, with light cooking, a bit of laundry, room for all of us to be together (6-13 of us at times), in a really fun place! Something I wasn't getting or could offer at a hotel! Previous to DVC, we rented house for this, now I get to stay on property and do it!

If I want to save money on vacation, I strategize, plot and plan etc. but I don't use points for that, and it's not to do Disney! Disney points have optimum value staying at Disney DVC resorts, If I want a hotel stay elsewhere, I ican negotiate better rates, than having to use points! Same goes for Disney cruises!
