Why do tomato products on the cruise ships have an oversaturated artificial red color? It's really odd. I can't imagine why DCL would think it is wise or necessary to do that. It's very obvious in main dining room for pasta dishes and soups featuring tomato.

Are you talking about sailings out of the United States or Europe.

I've never noticed this. Are you certain they are using red dye? I never once thought that. Tomatoes can be super duper red.

It might just be the lighting in the dining rooms.

It’s incredibly obvious and has been for years on dcl

It’s not. Look at photos of the food. I will post some if I can find them

Most pasta sauces are redder than most tomato soups, Campbell's in particular. It can also depend on what spices used and who made the tomato puree or paste that DCL buys. I doubt very much that it is a food coloring additive.

I haven't noticed this either. Looks natural to me. (Except in Animators palate where all the food looks unnatural due to lighting, lol.) They likely use tomato paste (more concentrated--dilute with water/broth as desired, uses less storage space) and has a deeper red color than sauce.

Tomatoes are red, so...

Not really sure what makes you think the tomato dishes are any more red than they should be...

Every photo and my own experience has never made me question the color of the tomato sauce, soup, etc. It's what color nature made it.

You mean the photos taken in the dining room lighting? LOL.
LOL indeed that you aren’t able to comprehend comparing photos of different foods, for example the kids pasta looking normal and the adult pasta looking ridiculous in the same lighting.

There are definitely some foods that have food dyes in them - it seems like mostly desserts, though (I agree with a past observation that in pastas it’s likely from the use of tomato paste, which is more concentrated in both color and flavor). If you’re legitimately concerned about it, just ask your server. There are people who are allergic to food dyes and Disney is very good about having options that meet dietary concerns/needs.

Ask DCL about red dye. There are natural ingredients that can be used to enhance color in foods so it may or may not be from a food dye, if they’re using anything at all.
