Recovery Operation in Hudson River.

I have a question that I unfortunately know the answer to, so I will consider it a rhetorical question. Why does the recovery operation have to go to the extra effort to block the view of television cameras while they are working? Shouldn't the television networks just respect those who are lost and GO AWAY!!!!

Bad news sells, happy news doesn't. The rescue crews are probably oblivious to the news crews. The Hudson River is generally shallow except for the channel out towards the middle and the wreckage appears to be in the channel, which drops off significantly about 100-200 yards out. The currents in the channel can be nasty. Some years ago two light planes collided further North and even though there were plenty of eye-witnesses that saw exactly where both planes went down, one has never been found.

In the fire service we live by this motto. Treat the injured, dying or dead as if they are your family members, give them the respect they all deserve.
We will do all it takes to give the respect to the dead as best as we can so that the family members will never have to see their love ones on the six o clock news being pulled out of any type of wreckage, building or any other type of disaster scene.

The media is seldom concerned with what they should do. They are more concerned with shock value and ratings.
