recovering deleted or corrupt images

try ZAR it's free for photo recovery, and I recovered pics that had been deleted, and then the card was formatted

Has anyone ever used recovery software to try to get deleted pictures? Had a problem and lost all our photos that were on the computer. We saved them to a cd and the files showed on the cd but weren't there when we tried to put them back on the computer. I was wondering if it would be possible to use a recovery program to see if there was anything that could be salvaged from our memory card.

I've used ZAR

ignore the price of the software, you can download the free trial and use the picture recovery part for free

I was going to empty my Sony Memorystick Pro last night so we would have room for pictures of the new arrival (once he decides to make an appearance). I put the memory stick in our computer card reader, and it didn't register it, so I took it out and put it back in the camera to hook it up via USB for download. When I turned the camera on I get a "Memory Disk Error" message and I can't get any pictures. There were over 300 pictures on the disk of both our Disney Cruise and the restoration of our 1968 GTO. I will be crushed if I've lost them. Does anyone know of any way I can get them back?? Do any of the photo recovery downloads work, or does anyone have any ideas?? I don't really care about the stick at this point - we'll get a new one, but I do REALLY REALLY want the pictures back if at all possible.

Recuva is a freeware program that I've used this in the past to undelete. I would give it a shot, but please to not hold me responsible if it does not help.

It has worked for me 100% of the time. I have not tried to use it on corrupt cards.

My first time to post here on the Photo forum. I need your help. I had a bag filled with photos from a Disney Cruise that a coke apparently spilled into. I found it some time later and many of the photos are stuck together or have Disney folders stuck to the front and back. I tried to pull a couple apart and ruined them. I tried to blow dry a couple with no real success--short time because scared to do it to long. I googled and all I can find was to put in the freezer. Thought I would ask if anyone had more ideas? Thanks in advance.

Oh, that is a tough one... especially since coke is soooo corrosive.

I would think you would have to get them wet again to seperate them. Maybe just water would work. Or maybe a distilled water would be more clean.

If they are really stuck together it might not ruin them any more...

Ok, I'll pick up some distilled water. We have laid them out to dry but a google suggested freezing.??

I am not an expert so get mroe opinions before trying something.

You have laid them out? How many are stuck together?

MIkeeee

There are two to three stuck together. Then I have a few that are individuals that are stuck in the folders that they were in when I purchased on the cruise. Thanks, I'll wait for my feedback.

I would let them sit in water for a few minutes to loosen them. The final process in developing film is a rinse in a tub of water (or it was back in the day, when I was in high school developing my own film/photos). I've done this myself w/great success.

Lay them out to dry. I am trying to think what you could do so they do not curl when drying.

One other possible solution to try is using:

Un-Do

From a scrapbooking website;
"# Un-du is the scrapper’s solution to removing adhesive and sticky residue. Safely remove and reuse stickers, tape runner, and photo squares. Removes sticky residue from scissors and punches. Photo Safe and Acid Free
# Will not bleed inks
# Each bottle contains approximately 4 oz."

You can find it most Michael's crafts stores, Hobby Lobby, AC Moore, etc. and online.

It does have a very strong smell and I would carefully try it on one photo edge first.

This is what many scrapbookers use to remove photos from old magnetic album pages.

I know I saw a post here a while back on recovering deleted pics from a card but can't find it.

I have a extreme III 4G card and I accidentally deleted my best wishes shot. What software can I use to recover the file and can I continue to use the card while here at wdw or should I stop and switch to a new card. I only have about 200 shots on this card so it kills me to lose the remainder of space.

Thanks

Switch cards until you recover the picture. Like a hard drive when you delete you don't erase the photo. You just release the space it occupies to be overwitten. Once that happens you cannot recover the old photo.

Once you've overwritten the spot the old photo existed, you may be able to still recover it but it becomes "iffy". I've personally recovered deleted pictures from a card that was formatted and then mostly fully used. About 40% of the old pictures were recoverable.

I've used products from DiskInternals (www.diskinternals.com) with good effect.

is an excellent digital image recovery program, and it's free...

just an added thought, you didn't say how you accidentally deleted the pic..

if you were deleting pics in camera as some people do, I highly recommend not doing that, I've read that deleting pics in camera, increases the chances of corrupting your card

Thanks. Trying it now. Yes I deleted with my camera.

If anyone is interested....
Lexar is listing their image recovery software V3 for free (prior verion, but in a bind it will work). At some point, you will probably need it. I am going to download it but not install it until I need it. I switched to Mac so my previous rescue software does not have a Mac version, but want to have something just in case.

Mac or PC versions available.

Do any of you have a suggested website that I could find a file recovery program? Are there any out there that are free that are trusted?

Thankfully I don't have a ton of pics on the SD card, but I got some good pictures the last couple of days of DS playing outside and when I put the SD card into my computer tonight it said I needed to format it.:scared1:
