SO I was goign through DD's closet and pulled out her old dresses--there is a burberry one, a bunch of ralph lauren, janie and jack, gymboree. I want to try to get some money for these. Has anyone done consignment or ebay? any ideas?

You would probably do great on Ebay! Granted it's not doing as well as years past, big name kids clothes in good condition can still be pretty profitable! I paid for our entire last trip from Ebay alone. Good Luck! :thumbsup2

I really like Once Upon a Child. They are a children's used clothing store and they will take kids clothes and baby gear. If they want your items they will write you a check on the spot. You can also get store credit if you want to shop. You can google it to see if there is one near you.

We have a Once Upon a Child near us and I was shocked at how little they offered me for my clothes. All of them were Gap, Janie and Jack and Mini Boden in great condition. I think it would have been like $2 a piece. They only offer a lump some for a pile, not a per item price. I opted not to keep the clothes and sell them on my own. As a general rule size 3 and up sell better too, from my experience.

Craigslist is one of the better places.
Sadly, you can recoup some of the cost but honestly not as much as most people wish......each dress will probably get $2-3, maybe $5 if in excellent condition. If you put it all together and ask $20-25 you might do better.

Once Upon a Child stanards are so subjective. I had an extremely gently used shoes and one girl said the style was dated, another girl offered $4. for them.....the manager had to get involved to settle it. Some of the ones who process the clothes act like their are close to God.....judging what can sell and what they don't want.
If you get a good processor, as I often have, I walk out with a check for about $40 and a lot of clothes that I thought they would take and didn't, so I take them back with me.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I use the new and used kids consignment pages on facebook... I lLOVE the gymboree/ janie and jack one.

wow thanks for the suggestions. I googled a consignment store downtown--they will give 40% of what they make on the clothes but seem to only want HIGH END stuff (of which I dont have many). There is a once upon a child not too far-maybe i can take some stuff.

am afraid of using craigslist in nyc...

will let you know.

looks like i probably wont get much for the clothes though....i am just not sure we have the time to do ebay. seems like tons of work!!!!!! Wow to the person who paid for a trip that way---WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!

hhhm maybe i should finally join facebooK??

I found a page on Facebook that lets you list just Gymboree, J&J, Crazy 8, and Gap girls items. It looks a lot easier than eBay and there are a lot of items on there, but from what I can see, very few items that are "Sold".

There are almost 8,000 members though, so a lot of traffic and it's free!

I think not a lot moves on the Facebook page because people sometimes WAY overprice stuff. I just sent you a PM that I hope may help.

tip: on FB I always ask "okay ladies who is interested in size 5 fall dresses?" and see how many people are on and interested before I list!!

My DD was just looking into a site called ThredUp I think it's more of a trade place for kids clothes. Anyone use it?

I find local consignment sales net me the most money with the least amount of hassle - no shipping etc...

My mom's club as well as my church put one on each year. They also take more than clothes too, like all those toys, baby equipment etc. that you don't need anymore.

I usually sell gymbo outfits for $5.00 as well as dresses from Janie and Jack, Ralph Lauren etc. My DD's stuff sells really well. So well in fact I have several moms always ask me for a pre-sale before I even put the stuff out on the floor! :)

I would love to know more about selling though facebook, I have checked out the site and it does seem like items either sell or don't. I don't want to make a ton of money but at my local consignment shop I wouldn't get more then $2.00 per item after it sold. It's great to get it out of my house...
