Recording Ride video

Chest or stick, please consider those around you who also want video or pictures. I have not seen anyone look at anyone else funny because they looked strange - this is WDW, have you seen what the other guy is wearing?!
I have seen filthy looks to those who stick their camera in other people's way and hate glares to those whose flash messes up other peoples pictures and/or vision.
My DS wants to wear our GoPro on a helmet at WDW - ack, that's a no-go because it puts in up in people's way and because most rides ask you to remove your hat, not because he'd look funny.

AFAIK, there is only one ride that asks guests to remove their hats
(Soarin') and that ride does not allow video photography, anyway.

I think BTTMR only says "hold onto your hats and glasses because this here's the WILDEST RIDE IN THE WILDERNESS!"

He doesn't specifically tell you to take them off. Soarin' is is the only one that explicitly shows that you must place your hat in the under-seat compartment.

I think video recording is prohibited on anything that shows you a film, which includes Soarin', Star Tours, EO, Energy, and Muppets (not sure about that one). This probably has to do with copyright rules in regards to film production. Your video of a 3D film won't come out that good anyway!

Yes, in the long-running classic safety spiel at WDW's BTM, the old cowboy, says to
"hang onto them hats and glasses 'cuz this-here's the wildest ride in the wilderness."

But to answer your question about looking weird....this is a place where grown men will wear plastic mouse ears on their heads. You're not really going to stand out just by wearing a camera

As long as there's no flash or lighting and your cam screen is not visibly lit you should be able to subtly film nearly everything.

This is the very, very, cannot-stress-it-strongly-enough part. in any darkened ride or show, any light source from the audience or a ride vehicle can mess up the view for some people and even temporarily blind others. (Not to mention the fact that, because the scenes were designed to be seen under show lighting, they won't come out right with flash on.)

I GoPro'd our trip in August and made an awesome video from it. Link is in my signature. GoPros were made for things like Disney vacations.

I used a collapsible stick made by Platinum. It collapsed down to 9" tall so was great for walking around the park, but I could extend it out to 27" to capture selfie footage. I think you get a much more realistic point of view and more stable footage from a handheld mount compared to a head or chest mount, but YMMV.

I was not allowed to take the stick on the water park slides, but could handhold the camera there. No other problems using it. My pole had a wrist strap that I made sure to secure on any fast moving rides.
