Reconsider the whole deal?

My thinking on buying SSR was this:

!) 12 more years on contract,
2) vicinity to one of our favorite places -DTD
3) $10 off per point deal, making it $79 per point, with no loss of 2003 points.
4) Feature pool promises to be one of the best

All this pushed me over the edge, and then reading the reports and opinions on these boards, I think I might be making a mistake. Haven't gotten the papers yet.

Should I switch to BWV if I still can? Can I?

Anyone think this resort is going to catch on eventually? I know it doesn't have the BW location, but my thinking was it had the DTD location, which is in some ways better. If you are at DTD late (we almost alway are) we don't have to wait in the dark when we're exhausted for a bus. We can either walk back, take a boat back, or drive if we choose. Anyway, I am surprised by the lack of interest in this resort--especially considering the incentive.

Am I making a mistake? Is it possible the place will never get completed? Is the May 2004 date only speculative, as Pop Century was for so long, too?

I think if you are a DTD person, this would be a perfect place for you to buy!

The reasons above should be plenty of reason to NOT change your mind. You can alawys get in the other DVC resorts at the 7 month window if you are flexible with dates.
Don't let other poster's opinion sway what is best for you and your family.:D

We bought at VWL. The location to us other than at WDW is not as important. On these boards we have folks with very strong opinions. If DTD is one of your favorites places at WDW then I believe this is not a bad thing. We have stayed at OKW, VWL and BCV so far. We are staying at BWV in Sep. So far we have not been disappointed at any place. Each resort has it strong and weak points. I have never thought much about staying in the DTD area. The main reason in the past I could not afford the Disney Institute. One of the best pieces of advice I have heard on the boards is buy where you would like to stay the most. That way you get to make your ressies at 11 months out. We like to go the first week after Thanksgiving, this is a very popular time with DVC and books fast. So we are stayingg at our home at VWL. I have tried to change to another resort at 7 months and was not able to. We only need a studio.

Maybe the additional years on the contract will make for a better resale if you have to sell or decide to sell down the line.

The pool looks awesome.

Believe me. I have been going back and forth with adding on at SSR or BCV.

I don't think you will be sorry if you stick with SSR. Yes, I do think the resort will catch on eventually.

There is just no way to know for sure where I, you or anyone else will be the happiest.

Thanks for the input. We also really love BWV, which is what my other alternative was. If I had to choose to stay at any resort, this is where I would want to be now. It's just too hard to say about SSR--it's the incentives that got me and the fact that from a financial viewpoint it just makes more sense.

Do you think I will have difficulty getting reservations at BWV 7 months out for say March 6-12, very late in August, or the several days BEFORE Thanksgiving? (Sat-Wed)

I would be very disappointed if I had difficulty booking something at BWV, although I probably wouldn't be partial to room type--studio/1 br/ view or not not important.

I am unsure why you wonder if it will "catch on eventually"? From what Doc reported during his recent visit, the DVC sales center was very busy.

Don't confuse our comments about not being interested in adding on as a vote against the resort. I suspect that many of us who are not interested in buying there, will stay there, some more than once. Our comments are regarding our relative impressions against what we already own and our needs for points or longer contracts.

All of the WDW DVC resorts have been completed as anticipated. These are their premier locations. VB was cut back in size and phae one was the only one completed and the California and other properties around the country were sold. But they were the off-property resorts and just did not have the appeal that on-property resorts do.

Pop Century Resort was coming on line just as world events turned the travel industry upside down. The industry has still not fully recovered. Its delay was external event driven, which will reverse itself in time. Phase one is opening this December.

I believe Disney has sufficient experience to plan complex construction projects to predict opening dates. They have had complex attraction delays, but given the 1st of kind ride systems they often build, I am not surprised .

Your reasons to buy seem to fit with SSR as a great choice. I have stayed at DI three times. Enjoyed all three trips.

This group, myself included, may tend to over hype the location bit (maybe a general tendency of Disney fanatics), but really there is no bad resort location on a Disney property.

Best of luck.

I agree, the reasons you have given are good reasons to buy SSR - if you love DTD then SSR is the place to own

thanks

Well...You got the "stay where you want to stay the most" advice already. Let me add this...

I think this will prove to be a fantastic location. It'll have THE BEST adults oriented activities, night-life etc. Yes, the ability to walk to Epcot is great, but we still take buses and boats everywhere else, including DTD. It all evens out.

I also think it'll sell very well. Great exposure. Every visitor to DTD will see it... and say "Hey. That looks like a a great place to stay. What's that? DVC? How much?"

I would definately consider SSR, but we're already set with our BWV and VWL points.

Although I am a new DVC owner with VWL being our home resort, we just booked BWV for the 1st week of March 2004 without any problems. MS volunteered that there was still pretty good availability for this timeframe. So, just because you want to stay somewhere and have to wait until the 7 month window, doesn't mean it will be impossible to get. Maybe that time of year isn't as busy as others (??), but thought I would throw it in for what it's worth.

Wow! Slmjam--that is great to hear!!

I have to stick to my kid's holiday schedule, and since he attends private school, he is off for the 2nd, 3rd week in March.

I am really happy to hear that you had no problems getting reservations! Thanks!

(BTW what kind of reservations did you end up getting at that time period?)

I hate to drive on holiday, especially as im a brit and drive on a different side of the road to you. Therefore SSR would be much better for us than OKW which seems more spread out. Looking at the 2bdrm points to take some friends over next year and must admit to being a little tempted. :)

Did everyone see the flyer that was just posted! I know I didn't make a mistake now, if the actual resort will be anything like its likeness!

I also think this resort is going to rival BWV and the rest. I was simply blown away by the artist rendering.

I've owned at OKW since 1992, and I love the quieter location away from the parks...now I know SSR will be a little more "bustling" nearer to DTD, but if you're a DTD-person, and still want a little quiter location than the "theme park hustle" I think it is a perfect choice for you. Plus, the extra contract length is a consideration for you or your heirs. I think you'll be very happy there.

We were able to book VWL at 6 3/4 month window (we own at BCV) - even did it through e-mail to MS without any problems

Thanks

disneycrazed139 -

We booked a studio. I called each day to add-on an extra day because I was afraid if I waited until our check-out date to book the entire time (I booked four days) that I might have a problem. As it turned out, it was very easy!

I bought back in June at VWL; but I have to say after reading everything about SSR and reading about the purchase details - I sure wish we had waited now. I like the location and granted the 10 extra years really won't effect me any but it would be nice to leave a little something to the grandchildren. I also like the points. Oh well, maybe that is where we will do our add-on.

Booking a day at a time sounds like a great idea...Do you mean you book at your window opportunity for the first day, and then you have a window for the next day following, and so on?

It didn't occur to me that the windows for booking aren't for the entire reservation. If I am understanding correctly, you could book say seven months in advance of your dates and if the end of your trip is outside of that window, you would just book one day at a time?

Am I getting it right?

Thanks for the opinion on SSR. I am still very excited!

I'm looking forward to staying at SSR. I own OKW and have enjoyed sampling BWV and VWL but I think the location close to DTD will be ideal. I like shopping almost as much as I enjoy hitting the parks. If WDW tunes up the restaurants at DTD, I think SSR will be, yet another, hit.

Disneycrazed, you do have it right, the day your 7 month window opens up, call to book the first night, then continue to do that for each day for the remainder of your stay. This is NOT necessary as a general rule, unless it's a busy DVC time (which is not the same as general disney busy times) or school vacation weeks... Usually you can wait til the 7 month period of your check-out date...

Also, I think you should be excited. If you go to DD, this resort is perfectly suited to you. You'll also be able to see the nightly fireworks & the resort itself looks to have a nice feel to it... Plus, you get the extra 12 years. If you really want the 11 month window at BW, you could always do a small add on to insure you could book a studio for five days (or whatever)...

Good luck, it sounds to me like you made the right choice...
