Recommendations Sought: Buying 25 Add-on Points Direct

Congratulations!!!

I'm waiting on Disney for ROFR, but have been thinking about a 25-50 point add-on. If it comes through, I will be a first time DVC member...fingers crossed! Did you contact Disney electronically for your BWV contract? Will Disney allow a small contract if I am not currently a DVC owner?

What FireflyTrance said is true. Until you are a DVC member the minimum purchase is 100 points direct. However even after buying as low as 25 points resale and being a DVC member you can then add-on as low as 25 points.

I did not make initial contact electronically as there is no way to add-on points on the site as far as I know. If I already had a contact in the DVC sales office I assume I could have emailed but I had only purchased resale prior. I assume for direct purchases they prefer to talk on the phone as well, particularly if you are not wanting the regular resorts currently being sold (Poly, Aulani and CCT).

Thank you both for the good information. It helps me in planning. :) I hope Disney is kind to me and passes!

I recently purchased a 50 point add on to go with my 125 points I bought resale. I believe for new Members (aka have not bought from DVD directly or bought resale), they require you to buy 100 points initially. Therefore it often makes sense to first buy resale and then buy from DVD directly.

Same resort and UY? I plan on buying a 25 point add on after my first resale contract closes. I'm reading through this thread and don't feel like buying a different property works for me. I also live in CA, so unless I plan on buying VGC or AUL a different property does me no good.

It depends. They have consistently allowed new non member buyers to buy 50 points at some resorts and there have been reports of new buyers being able to buy 25 points only.

I'm also looking to add on another 25pts direct. I closed on a 50pt BLT resale 2 weeks ago. I thought after I made my offer, I'd be able to find another 25-50pt resale contract for my UY, but it hasn't been the case. I'm impatient and I would hate to book a trip this year knowing that there is a possibility I wouldn't have enough points to return until 2019.

Small point contracts for resale get snatched up usually within the first few hours I've found.

For difficult to find resorts like VGF or BCV, I'd tend to go look for slightly larger contracts. Very often buying more is better than less even if one doesn't quite need them all. It's not as much of an issue for SSR, OKW, AKV or similar. I'm not sure why you were doing it this way but I don't believe the extra costs and aggravation are worth it just for the insurance of an exit option later which really isn't anyway.

Any recent info about incentives buying 25 point add on? Seems like I've heard of some "double point" offers. But maybe that's just the current years points or 2016 points for UY that haven't ended.

Anybody have first hand experience with what can be expected?

We will be trying to add 25 at SSR with Feb UY in the next 6 weeks. Curious if we'll have 2017 points even though it'll be June.

That small of an add on has not had incentives for as long as I remember. The "double points" is only what the guides have used as sales speak to simply state you'll get current points so yes, typically used to describe 2016 points for the UY's that are still in their 2016 UY (currently June, Aug, Sept, Oct and Dec).

If you were to add on a Feb UY now you would receive current 2017 points and all going forward.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I figured. I guess there would never be banked points when buying direct. Even if they bought them back banked they would probably strip or reassign as needed to sell more points and not to give away points.

Does anyone know of a post here or any other resource that gives a sense of how long the waitlist is for adding on direct points at sold out resorts (eg BLT)? I'd expect that Disney doesn't keep much, if any, points for direct sale at old resorts, so wondering if/when I should start the add-on process.

Could take a few days or a month or 2 depending on UY.
