Recommendations for small backpack for kid

In the past I have always carried all our stuff. While I like the comfort of knowing it won't get left behind I also think my son should have a bit of independence and responsibility for his stuff and some say in what he brings. So, with that in mind can someone recommend a small comfortable bag or probably backpack for a 10 year old? He doesn't carry much but sometimes wants to bring a book, kindle or phone plus his money and maybe a snack. Oh, and if rainy or cold a long sleeve layer.

You might consider a hipsack, or a cross-body bag. Both of those do not require removing the pack in order to access the contents. Both of my girls wear them. Pretty convenient.
