I'm in the beginning stages of planning a trip to Disneyland & we are going to San Diego just to go to the Zoo one day & Sea World the 2nd day. Can anyone recommend a moderately priced hotel in San Diego that is close to San Diego Zoo & Sea World?

So far I am looking at Homewood Suites-San Diego-Del Mar on Vista Sorrento Pkwy. for $152 +tax per nt. (We are going in Aug. 2014) Any thoughts on staying here as well?

I would look on Tripadvisor and read reviews on San Diego hotels if you haven't already. I know when I was looking, Homewood Suites Liberty Station got really good reviews- not sure that's the one you are looking at.

We ended up staying at The Dana on Mission Bay. It has two sections- old and new. The new section is not necessarily moderately priced but it is definitely the section to stay in. We were able to do a get the 3rd night free promotion, so that made our stay in the new section $167 a night which to me was reasonable for a bay view and a resort atmosphere. We loved The Dana- my girls would go back there any day. If you're interested in it, keep checking their website for deals.

We stayed there because we were ONLY doing the beach and Sea World, and they are walking distance to each and have a shuttle to SW. We didn't want to rent a car, so our choices were limited. If you are renting a car, you have all kinds of options. Have fun!

I haven't stayed there, but you are looking at a 20-25 minute minimum drive to the zoo or Sea World from there. I would bet you could do better with somewhere further south. If you going during the week, the traffic will make that much longer.

Del Mar is a lovely place, so if you're going to want some beach time and relaxing at the hotel it might even out. If you just want somewhere to sleep between Sea World and the Zoo, you could probably find closer.

Thanks!! That is so helpful. Does anyone know of any hotels that would be closer to The Zoo or Sea World? I've been looking on TripAdvisor, but it's hard to tell what hotels are near these attractions. (Only staying in San Diego to go to zoo & Sea World)

We like the Best Western mission bay. It's on Claremont, one freeway stop north of sea world. Free breakfast and usually less than $100/night. About a mile or so from beach.

we stayed at Comfort Inn & Suites Zoo SeaWorld Area. we liked it. 2 beds plus sofa bed. clean, good free breakfast, good size parking stalls. we only did one night since we drove down from anaheim to do sea world one day and the zoo the next before driving back.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in La Mesa and it was pretty nice and about 20 minutes from the zoo. It was about $90 for two queen beds with no parking fees, etc.

We are also going to San Diego from Disneyland. We are looking at going to the zoo and SeaWorld.

We booked the Old Town Inn. It gets good reviews. Close to airport and both parks. Plus breakfast. Very inexpensive.

Try Downtown Hotels (Embassy Suites or Best Western, or Higher End such as the Hyatt or Bristol - a favorite of mine - or the Sophia) Downtown will put you near the 5 and 163 Freeways. Downtown to the Zoo is about 12 minutes on surface roads, Downtown to Seaworld is about 15 minutes on the 5 N and the 8 W. Plus, Downtown puts you close to places to eat as well as other attractions such as the Maritime Museum, The Midway, Little Italy, etc...

I'd avoid Hotel Circle (Mission Valley) if possible.

Del Mar is lovely but you are looking at 24-45 minutes to Seaworld and the Zoo depending on traffic.

San Diego is quite spread out compared to other cities.
