Recommendations for alternative to WBC?

We were 3 days away from climbing on a plane for two awesome weeks at WDW and I got sick, I'm sitting here in hospital waiting for surgery and trying to cheer myself up with replanning our trip for the first two weeks of July - we had to cancel our Wyndham Bonnet Creek reservation (and our fast passes, and our dining reservations :sad1:) and I can't get the new dates at WBC at the same discounted rate. So... Any suggestions for a similar place? We love WBC and will miss being there, and are hoping to find a new place we can fall in love with too...Tia!

We have only stayed at much smaller resorts that aren't anything like WBC, so I can only suggest Sheraton Vistana, which neighbors of mine love. We have also heard from people who like Orange Lake, but I haven't heard as much.

But mainly just wanted to say sorry to hear of your situation, and wish you a speedy recovery!

I second Sheraton Vistana Resort. Besides, Sheraton Vistana Village and Hilton Vacation Club on international drive are both pretty decent.

Thank you! I got home from the hospital yesterday, its so nice be home. I will check out the Sheraton Vistana and Orange Lake, I appreciate the suggestions.

Another vote for Sheraton Vistana:thumbsup2 if u want to stay offsite and have some room to roam.

Might want to check out hotwire or priceline express even LMTclub or the website, can ID the properties via helpful sites such as better bidding even for condos.

I have never tried booking through priceline or hotwire, I will spend some time checking out better bidding and see if I can figure it all out, thanks!

I'll chime in as well with a recommendation for the Sheraton Vistana Resort (not to be confused with the Sheraton Vistana Villages.....which is a separate property a few miles away, closer to the SeaWorld family of parks). We loved it so much on our first visist, we bought two annual units there when we came home :) .

This thread is a great resource for those looking to stay at SVR:

The feel of SVR will be somewhat different than WBC, as the majority of the resort is a series of low-rise, 2 or 3 storey buildings (with a few exceptions) vs. the high-rise towers of WBC.

The grounds at SVR are gorgeous. The resort offers 7 pools (two with waterfalls, one with a slide, one that shows poolside movies throughout the week, one with splash fountains, 2 with in-water volleyball nets....but no lazy rivers like at WBC), 6 outdoor hot tubs, sand volleyball courts, basketball courts, multiple playgrounds, mini golf, tennis courts, and a whole host of daily scheduled activities from a farmers market to pool parties to bingo and wine tasting. Location is excellent...just around the corner from DTD.

The rooms were redone right down to the studs a few years back, and they are GORGEOUS and huge. Granite countertops, ceramic tile, really nice finishings. Most 2-bedroom units are 1200+ square feet. Each 2 bedroom unit (and some of the 1-beds) have a screened in balcony or patio. Each 2-bedroom has a washer and dryer as well as a jacuzzi tub in the master bath.

We love that the resort is gated and feels so safe. Wifi and parking are both free, and there is no pesky resort fee.

You can also check out my August trip report (see the link in my signature) for more on our SVR experience.

First of all, I hope you're all right and feeling better now. If I may, I'd suggest the Lake Buena Vista Resort Village and Spa. We're staying there the last 3 nights of our trip.

Thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed reply - its definitely looking like this resort is a great choice, thanks especially for the SVR disboards thread.

Thank you, I am feeling so much better, I am grateful that this actually happened before we left, or I would have spent my whole vacation in an Orlando-area hospital, and would not now being trying to plan a new vacation!

I'm pretty sure my youngest son would love the pirate ship at Lake Buena Vista Resort, thanks for the suggestion.

Now I just need to find a super-awesome rate at one of these great places (we cancelled so late at WBC that we couldn't get a full refund, so I'm trying to pinch every penny now.) No matter what, though, we are still going to go, so I am happy.

Another vote for Lake Buena Vista Resort. I have never stayed there but a friend of mine has. She had the same problem getting a reservation as you and I found this place for her. She is just as picky as I am and she loved it.

Glad to hear this! I just booked a 2 bedroom at Lake Buena Vista Resort for late June/early July. Yay! We're going! I booked on LBV's own site with a discount code from TripAdvisor.ca. I got a great rate that was $30+ cheaper per night than expedia and hotels.com. I'm so happy :cool1:
