I’m going to be in Oahu for 6 days in early December and am planning to spend 2-3 nights at Aulani and 2-3 nights at another resort. Any recommendations?

We mainly plan on relaxing and enjoying the resorts, but may do one or two hikes. We’ve been to Oahu twice before and don’t plan to do Pearl Harbor, the cultural center, etc.

Thanks!!

Our first time we split between Hilton Hawaiian Village and Aulani. All four of us LOVED that trip.

One thing to note - depending on your definition of “resort”, most of what’s in Waikiki are really hotels - they all may charge a “resort” fee, but they’re just hotels with a pool, and a gym or a spa located in the building.

Granted, there are some really nice hotels (Halekulani is great), but for resorts in Waikiki, you’re really limited to the HHV, the Sheraton Waikiki/Royal Hawaiian, and on the other side of Diamond Head, the Kahala Hotel. Those are the only ones I can think of where you can wander the grounds, and be a little separated from the hustle and bustle of the street outside.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

Yeah we're looking for something with more grounds to explore and aren't that interested in the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. I was looking at Turtle Bay, but have read that there's a greater chance of rainy/cooler weather on the North Shore in December versus other areas.

Turtle Bay is a great resort - there’s a large hotel, condos and timeshares that you can rent. We used to spend a lot of time on the North Shore before Aulani opened. It is cooler in December, and there is a chance of rain. Sometimes the waves are 30+ feet in the winter, and many people drive out to see it, it’s really amazing to see.

Turtle Bay is the only other resort not in Ko Olina but on Oahu I would go to. If you'd like to save some money, people who own condos on the Turtle Bay property will rent them out on AirBnB, or you can stay in the normal hotel rooms. The only recommendation is that if you're staying there you really need a car.

Thanks everyone! We decided to do three nights at Turtle Bay and three nights at Aulani. We’ll have a rental car for the Turtle Bay part.
