I've used travelguard. You can't cancel just because you don't feel like going, but it does pay out with a real problem.
One time my grandmother had to have surgery the day we were supposed to leave. She lives alone and my dad got a note from her doctor saying he needed to be available as caregiver. We were refunded the entire price of the trip.
On our honeymoon in Kauai, our car was broken into a some things were stolen. We had to submit the police report and receipts, but were sent a check for the amount stolen: an iPhone, kindle, backpack, memory card (even sunscreen and flip flops), plus the cost of getting new licenses through the dmv. They told us they would also cover the overnight fedex charge of my parents sending us our passports to get home, but after the fact they said that was the only thing they wouldn't cover.
