Recommendation for stay a SSR THV - elderly guest.

Any recommendations regarding the SSR THV and a elderly guest with bad knees? I am planning a celebration trip for my DS -13. He really wants to stay in the SSR THV.

We will be traveling with my DM, who will be near 80 yrs old. She currently has problems with stairs due to her knees. Should I ask for a handicap accessible room?

I am also thinking, we will need a car to get her around. We usually never rent a car.

I would love any advise.

When in doubt...follow your instincts. We had 17 steps up to our THV. Not all of them have that many steps. I would request HA. Also, I would rent a car. I tried the buses ONCE with my parents, and ended up renting a car after a day or two.

Thanks for the reply. You confirmed my fears. I do not want my DM so wore out getting around the resort that she can not enjoy the vacation.

Yes, request the HA THVs that have ramps rather than stairs. And you don't need a car--rent her a scooter because if she has bad knees she will need it in the parks too! Lots of good info on the Disabilities thread.

again, request an HA room, it will give you a ramp, but it still might be a long ramp up.

I would rent a car too. While the bus service from THV to SSR is every 10 minutes, it drops you at springs which is the last SSR stop.....so more likely standing room only on the bus.

Rent a car and a Pride Revo ECV. The ECV comes apart and will fit in the trunk. Does the Guest have a handicap placard? Have them bring it for the rental car. Get a THV unit with a ramp and you will be all set to go.
