We need to replace our 2 year old GE range since it doesn't maintain a constant temperature while baking. Looking to spend no more than $1,200.. Don't need anything fancy. Been there, done that. I think the more gadgets the worse it is. Any suggestions? What brand is good? Looking at a Whirlpool.

Why not just have it fixed if it is so new? You can do it yourself.

We have had them in to service it 4 times. They tell me it is normal for the oven temperature to fluctuate up to 50 degrees during baking. Never in my life have I had an oven do that. It is impossible to bake a cake, bake cookies or even heat food with that much of a change.

We have a GE oven too (not a range because we have a separate cook top). Does yours blow the fan no matter what setting is on? Mine does. It has a convection setting but the fan comes on on the regular bake setting also. It causes the temperature to drop significantly every time you open the door because it forces all the hot air right out. It's also pretty new, from 2015. My workaround has been to set the oven 25-50 degrees higher than I actually need it. This works great for baking cookies and cakes where you are frequently opening the oven up. When I'm cooking longer things, I just set it to 25 degrees higher initially, then once I put the item in, set it back to the correct temperature. I kind of hate this oven too, but this workaround does work. I bake a lot.

I would not replace a 2 year old range if this is the only issue. It IS normal for a gas oven to not maintain a constant temperature. It's just how gas ovens are, unfortunately. You need electric for more consistent temperature.

That appears......from a Google search.....to be an accepted temperature fluctuation range for ovens, so just be prepared for a new oven to have the same issue.

If GE indicates this is a normal amount of variation, not sure what will change if you buy a new oven.

Forgot to add, I recommend a countertop oven like the Breville Smart oven. You can bake a LOT of things in there and the temperature is more consistent than a large oven. Spend a couple hundred on one of these rather than over $1000 on a whole new range. I have the Smart Oven Air. It can fit a half sheet pan. I use it to bake cookies, pies, and cakes as well as roast meats like pork chops and chicken. I like how it doesn't heat up the whole house and preheats in under 5 minutes. It's also great for broiling.

Not sure you are going to be any happier with a new range.
