Recommendation for Cot

Can anyone recommend a particular cot? My husband, who is 235 lbs, is tired of sleeping on the ground while camping and so we're thinking about buying him a cot. Thanks in advance!

Yeah there are cots out there for larger size people. But for me a Good AiroBed is the way to go if you have room for it. I'm a big guy, and we have a queen size one. You can add air to the bed to make it feel just like your home bed. Most come with a power air pump on the bed, with control hand set. Plus you can use sheets from the house and make it a nice place to sleep and NAP also, LOL. Good luck.:thumbsup2

antsss,

I have a pair of these cots from Cabela's: The Outfitter XL http://www.cabelas.com/product/Camping/Cots-Pads-Beds/Cots%7C/pc/104795280/c/104712480/sc/104280480/Cabelas-Outfitter-XL-Cot/713995.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fcots%2F_%2FN-1100677%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104280480%3FWTz_l%3DSBC%253BMMcat104795280%253Bcat104712480&WTz_l=SBC%3BMMcat104795280%3Bcat104712480%3Bcat104280480

I like them because they are oversized and I didn't want to feel the bars touching my sides, head, or feet. I am "suspended" on the nylon which feels good. I actually got the accessory "Nightstand" also which gives you several pockets and places to put small items. There is also room to stash stuff underneath.

They are heavy (23#) and somewhat expensive but I will pay for a good night's sleep (no skimping there). If you don't want that one, Cabela's has other cot choices which are highly rated.

I collect tents like some folks collect stray cats and with two old Boy Scout canvas wall tents I needed a good cot. These fit the bill. I've only used them a few times but would like to get out locally with my canvas tents this fall and use these cots again.

The fort rents cots too, btw. Though not the Cabelas XL, it may work. You call to reserve one. Not expensive either!

We just got REI's Comfort Cots. They are wide enough to fit my DH, 6'1" and 230 lbs, and our average-sized two year old. The bed is suspended on bungee cord type supports and there are four adjustable feet on the cot so, if necessary, you can adjust for uneven ground. The head end of the bed also can be raised a bit like a pool lounge chair :) I'm a side sleeper and find these cots to be very comfortable! They get great reviews on REI.com. Good luck in your search!

Have you ever though of going the hammock route?

I've slept in a Hennessy hammock for several years now while backpacking and have a Mayan couple's hammock set up at home. Not a muscle aches when I wake up after a night in the hammock.

I've had my eye on a collapsible and transportable stand now for a year or so and it might be short enough to fit in one of those larger tents that are common in the campgrounds.

If you do decide to look into hammocks, I would suggest either the Mayan style for its flexibility and breathability or an asymmetrical cut if the fabric is solid so that the occupier can lay flat.
