Hi,

My son will be turning 14 while on our disney vacay. He wants to spend his day at the Magic Kingdom. Could someone recommend a restaurant that's casual dining category that serves american and/or italian food.

Thanks.

Hi! Does he want to eat in the MK? The only sit down meals are Cindererlla's Royal Table, Liberty Tree Tavern, and Tony's. I doubt that he will want to eat at Cinderella's Royal Table, lol. Tony's serves Italian food, but I know a lot of people who did not care for the food. Liberty Tree Tavern serves American food for dinner. It is served family style. If I had to pick, I would go with Liberty Tree Tavern.

Your best bet would be to leave the park and eat at one of the resort restaurants such as, Ohana, Kona Cafe, The Wave, or California Grill. Go to Allears.net and check out the restaurant menus. Have your son look at them and see which menu appeals the most to him.

I would highly recommend The Plaza. Great sandwiches, excellent ice cream, and you are not usually there for a very long time. Sounds perfect for a 14yo boy. Enjoy our trip.

I know this is a dumb question but honestly I don't know what it means, lol! what does "served family style" mean?

They bring plates of food to the table and each person takes what they want and passes it the next person. The plate can be refilled as many times as you want. If the meal was family style you get a plate of what is on that meal. Like at Ohaha's.

I would recommend Tony's in MK.

All restaurants get good and bad reviews at WDW, so check out the menu and see if you and he like it. If so that would be perfect.

Other Italian places are Mama Melrose in DHS and Tutto Italia in Epcot.

How the heck did I forget the Plaza?? I love it there, lol! Great suggestion.

thanks for all recommendations,

have any of yall ever dined at chef mickeys, i found 1 reservation for 9:15 pm that day, I'm thinking that's a too late for dinner but that's the only thing I could find. I even tried breakfast. But it's dining w/ Mickey Mouse at Disneyworld so I guess people take what they can get. I'm sure he'll love this but then he'll miss the fireworks at MK. How good is chef mickeys as a dining experience? Is it worth waiting till 9 and is it worth missing the nightime spectacular? And we will be at MK that day so approx how long will it take to get from MK to Contemp Resort via Disneyworld transportation?

So many questions! Sorry but I need all the help I can get with this trip. This is only my second time and the first time I did counter meals my whole trip! We were trying to keep it cheap and simple since we wanted to concentrate more on the attractions.

thanks

You can take the monorail to the Contemporary Resort, which is very quick. I have been to Chef Mickeys for breakfast, but never dinner. Personally, that would be too late for me to eat and I would not want to miss out on the fireworks.

I'm sure many will say I'm wrong, but I don't see Chef Mickey's as the place for a 14 year old boy's birthday. Have you considered letting him plan the day? Show him the menus and themes for the MK and MK resort restaurants and let him pick? You have all the restaurants at GF, Poly, Contemporary and Wilderness Lodge within easy reach. And, if you're spending the entire day, straight through to fireworks, at MK, it might be nice to get out of the park for a while and into the relative calm (unless he picks Whispering Canyon) of a sit down resort restaurant.
He can also come up with the day plan - which area he wants to start in, etc.

Actually I want it to be a surprise. This is the second trip that we take in which his bday fall on our trip and the last time we didn't do anything really special for him. And actually he would love Chef Mickey's, he's a kid at heart, you know like those people that never grow too old for cartoons and comics. Like me!

I recommend taking the monorail over to the Polynesian for an 'Ohana birthday dinner or take a boat to Wilderness Lodge for dinner at Whispering Canyon. Both are fun-filled entertainment for all ages.
