I need a good self- tanning lotion. I am the mother-of-the groom and need it for my legs. I am pale and in my mid 50's and wearing a 3/4 lenth dress, so I want it to look natural....if that is possible!

People tell me not to wear nylons since I'm wearing an open toe dress shoe...is that true? I'm new to all of this . Any opinions ....Thanks:thumbsup2

Can't help you with the self tanning stuff, sorry.

But yes, nylons are pretty much last century and have been for a while. The Duchess of Cambridge notwithstanding. Especially with an open toed shoe.

But if the hem is 3/4 length, I don't think you need to do the self tan. If your arms will show (short sleeves), you'd pretty much need to use it all over, anyway.

JMHO, but I'd rather see someone with natural pale skin than some of those awful orangy looking fake tans.

It's the trend right now NOT to wear hose but personally I'm not comfortable without them especially in formal wear. I go with a sandalfoot toe in a colour that works with the outfit, which I think looks infinitely better than blotchy, lumpy or veiny bare legs.

As for self-tanners, there don't seem to be very many on the market anymore, at least where I shop (drug and discount chains). The one I'm using right now is L'Oreal Bronze Sublime but I can only get it to develop so far (not a very dark colour at all). I think it has something to do with individual skin chemistry. If you want a deeper colour I'd recommend a spray tan - google a local place but be sure to check for positive/negative reviews. Congrats on DS's upcoming nuptuals!

I'm as pale as they come and when I'm in a wedding party where the dress color doesn't look all that great on my translucent self, I usually go in for a spray-on tan. Sometimes I'll use St. Tropez's Bronzing Lotion and the mitt they sell for application. In college I was convinced that I needed to be tan and tried the full spectrum of self-tanners, and St. Tropez was really the only one that gave a natural result.

I use jergens glow it's a very gradual color. For a specific event I get spray tanned.

Braziliance by Tarte and Faux Tan by Bare Minerals are both good.

I like Jergens because it adds a very light color. I'm super pale too and like to have a little color, even though it just makes me slightly darker pale. :lmao:

I use Jergens too, or the store brand version of it. Doesn't get real orange or strange looking. If you aren't real familiar with using a self tanner, get some and mess around with it now so you can figure out how to apply it without ending up with streaks and blotches. I start with a small blob in my palm (about quarter size) and work it into my shin and calf and when it's almost all rubbed in I will rub my hand over my feet and knees (they require the least amount of lotion). Then I will wash my hands and work on my thigh. Wash your hands well or they will turn orange! I never use self tanner anywhere but my legs.

Just be sure to do a "trial run" of whatever product or spray tan you decide on (in case there are any allergy issues and to make sure you like the color). Have fun at the wedding!

I've used Tan Towels. I think I bought them on QVC or HSN when they first came out and they now sell them at my local Ulta. They are like a self tanning lotion on a baby wipe so no streaking or orange color. I use them one time for a nice light color or two days in a row for a deeper color.

Thanks for all your reply's . The wedding is in 3 weeks, so I'll need to experiment.
I guess it's a "No-go" on the nylons. My dd18 and my girlfriend both said NO....but I haven't really dressed up in a long time and I think I'd feel more comfortable in nylons but don't want people shaking their heads , lol !
Too bad the wedding is in 3 weeks...still snow on the ground here and no chance of a natural tan.
I have time to try a few products , I guess!

I'm very pale. When I want a little color, I use Jergens Natural glow for light skin. If you've never used a self-tanning lotion before, I recommend using it sparingly and gradually. Avoid your knees and in the crease behind your knees or these areas will be darker than the rest of your skin. Target sells the travel size which is several applications -- probably more than you'll need. Look in the travel-size bins. It will save you $ compared to buying the larger bottle.

Another :thumbsup2 for the Jergens. If you get the gradual type (not the 3 day), it won't streak. I think it looks natural. I am on the pale side, and I buy the medium.

In our cupboard we have :

Coppertone Sunless Tanning Gradual Tan Moisturizing Lotion
and
Banana Boat Summer Color Self-Tanning Lotion Deep Dark Color

Both work good - the Banana Boat one has a darker tan definitely.

I found both of these on Amazon.com - I looked up reviews and chose the ones that had the best reviews with reasonable prices.

I love a brand of self tanner called Hemp that I get at Sally's Beauty Supply. It's the only thing that I can use that looks natural.
