while I was in florida last dec I had these cookies on many occaisions and grew very fond of them

does anybody have a recipie that i can try back at home in the UK

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

1/2 cup butter -- softened
1/2 cup butter flavored shortening
1 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups rolled oats
1 cup raisins

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter, butter flavored shortening, brown sugar, white sugar, eggs and vanilla until smooth.
Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and salt; stir into the sugar mixture.
Stir in the oats and raisins.
Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake 10 to 12 minutes until light and golden. Do not over-bake.
Let them cool for 2 minutes before removing from cookie sheets to cool completely.
Store in airtight container.

Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

1 cup butter or margarine -- softened
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt -- optional
3 cups quick or old-fashioned oats -- uncooked
1 cup raisins

Heat oven to 350 degrees.
Beat together butter and sugars until creamy.
Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well.
Add combined flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. Mix well.
Stir in oats and raisins. Mix well.
Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.
Bake 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets. Remove to wire racks.

Bar cookies: Bake 30-35 minutes in ungreased 13x9" metal baking pan.
 
My favorite recipe has always been the one from Quaker Oats.

Famous Oatmeal Cookies

3/4 c vegetable shortening
1 c brown sugar
1/2 c granulated sugar
1 egg
1/4 c water
1 tsp vanilla
3 c oats
1 c all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 c raisins (or chocolate chips)

Preheat oven to 350. Cream together shortening, sugars, egg, water & vanilla. Combine remaining ingredients seperately, then add & mix well. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Fold in raisins or chocolate chips. If using raisins, soak briefly before incorporating into dough. Bake 12 - 15 minutes. Yield: ~5 dozen cookies
