Recipe for Play Doh???

It is sooooo hot here lately, so the poor kiddo's are cooped up inside to play. They've been playing with Play Doh a lot, but most of it was older and has dried up. Anyone have a good recipe to make some at home? It would really save my budget rather than having to run to Walmart and end up buying things we don't need. Know what I mean?!?!?!?

Here's the one we use and you definitely should get the cream of tartar.....It helps keep the play dough fresher longer. And if you want brown playdough use cocoa powder or I heard iced tea mix works too. Tell the kiddos to have fun

Basic Playdough (Nonedible)

• 1 cup flour
• 2 Tbsp cream of tartar
• ½ cup salt
• 2 Tbsp cooking oil
• 1 cup water
• food coloring

Mix flour, cream of tartar, and salt in a pan. Mix desired coloring with water, add with oil to dry mixture. Cook over medium heat until thick. Mix in coloring later if preferred.

When I taught Pre K e used this or a similar recipe b ut used koolaid instead of food color and no cream of tartar. Also a note it seems like weather or humidity would make the dough come out different. We used the same recipe every time sometimes it was too wet other too dry and sometimes just right!

My kids made the playdoh using koolaid for the coloring. And our hands didn't change colors

Another fun mix is to add water to a box of cornstarch. Turns to a slurpy wet/dry concotion. Pour it onto a rimmed baking sheet to keep it all together and play with it outside!

My kids love to make and play with GAK; (like slime)

4 oz Elmer's Glue (regular size bottle)
4 oz water
1 1/2 tsp borax
4 ox HOT water
food coloring

Mix glue and tap water adding food coloring of choice. Set aside. Add Borax to hotwater, mix together. Combine Borax mixture into glue, then mix with hands little by little. Easily halved or doubled. Washes out of clothes

I'm an Elementary School teacher and this is the recipe I use. It's easy and takes common ingredients plus if the kids happen to eat it it is non-toxic

Oatmeal Playdough
Ingredients:
• 1/2 cup flour
• 1/2 cup water
• 1 cup oatmeal
• OPTIONAL: food coloring
Directions:
1. Mix ingredients together well.
2. Add a few drops of food coloring if desired.
3. Knead until smooth.

There is a Peanut Butter Play Dough recipe out there. That is eatable!!


Girl Scout Peanut Butter Play Dough

1 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup honey
2 cups powdered sugar

Mix all ingredients in a bowl, using your hands. Dough should feel soft and pliable. Form shapes and be creative!

Storage: When not using, MUST be stored in an airtight container.


Peanut Butter Play Dough

one 18-oz. jar creamy peanut butter
6 tablespoons honey
3/4 cup non-fat dry milk

Mix ingredients together, using varying amounts of dry milk for desired consistencies. Knead it with fingers, forming into desired shapes, adding other foods like M&M's or peanuts for eyes, mouths, etc. Great fun!

Storage: When not using, MUST be stored in an airtight container.
