Recind to prove a point or am I being an moron?

The whole webcast/Boston/Cruise incentive talk has really got me irritated. Yes I got into the webcast and qualify if I want but it is the principal of it all that seems to leave me with the only way to make a small protest is to write a small note a recind my current contract of 150pt add on at $96. I was thinking of even possibly adding on up to 320 which would be at $91 (I think) but to know that people on the cruise and what will be offered at Boston will be better just bothers me. I'm fine if next month they get better offers that is the chance one takes. But at the exact same time someone else is getting a better deal just becasue of where they happen to be located.........well for some reason just %#$# me off.

I find this is moving DVC into the same category of Wyndham and other TS systems. One of the nice things about buying DVC is this is the deal and everyone gets this deal.

I have other options (BTW are much cheaper) to supplement my current pts, so I don't NEED to get more pts.

Ok so the question.........do you think I'm just being a moron and get over it or good point stick it to the man (even though it won't make a dent or even effect the man)????????

In my experience, decisions based on emotions are usually not the best ones and more often than not, end up being regretted.

I wouldn't call you a moron, but if you want the points, why "cut off your nose to spite your face?" A letter rescinding will make no difference - kind of like trying to empty the ocean with a bucket.

Yes, it stinks when you find out others paid or will pay less than you did. But prices and changes in incentives happen. Hard to know when the absolute best deal will be. If you find a deal you can live with, then buy. (I learned this with airfare, lol. When I was greedy, I always ennded up paying more).


So sleep on it or wait a few days until the "mad" subsides. Maybe you don't need/really want the points and maybe you do. But don't decide when you're upset.

My recommendation is to stay away from any incentive posts that you see popping up.

I can understand your frustrations, I just purchased AKV in April and then found out that some people were getting 2008 & 2009 points for the same price and same incentives. I was very upset, I called my Guide and she said that wasn't happening.

I still kept my contract and I am happy with my decision, but it is definately frustrating.

I understand the frustration but as CarolMN said if you want the points you are only hurting yourself, DVC could care less if you cancel.


Basically it has always been somewhat different. For example early member got free tickets. That was stopped. So there will always be times that someone might get a better deal.

I'm not worried about others getting better deals at a different time, I'm ok with that believe it or not. I might be mad but it is timing. I'm upset that at the exact same time someone else is getting offered a different price and even if I know about it and ask for it you can't get it. That is what erks me, it is not hey this guy got a better deal last year or next year.........it is hey the guy on the cruise got a $2 less than you, a gift card and a free RCI week. I know about ask about it and told nope so sad too bad.

There is no good way to try and "time" these incentives. Resale is your only "sure" deal (you have the control, you set the terms). If you don't need the points, I would wait on the resales.

Rather than be upset, I am happy to see individuals obtain some extra perks or incentives. There is an alternative, and that is to have no perks at all, just bottom line pricing with all paying the same. Realistically, prices go up so even that would not be the case eventually.

It is like buying a car - some folks find a better "deal" perhaps, but bottom line is if your deal was "reasonable" and if you are happy with the vehicle (DVC) and enjoying it. I cannot get wrapped up into following the other deals around..

You can look back and see incentives that were introduced at various times, but the price per point has always increased. I bought shortly after the free WDW park passes, but never felt cheated out of them.

Those people who get a "deal" on the cruise, well look what they paid to go on that cruise and obtain that extra incentive - probably far more $$ spent than the incentive was worth.

So, I would not spend much time fretting over it. Life is too short, and bottom line is if you enjoy DVC then why give it up for something like this?

You'd be sticking it to yourself if you went through with a deal which was going to be much more expensive than the unspecified "other options." Sounds to me like the purchase is just a waste of money if there are better options.

Just bought 210 AKV points last week with $18 off the price of each point(we still haven't closed). I think today I read that someone can add on for $21 a point less. Does it gripe me---eh, a little. But I still get a fab savannah view in Oct rather than walking under the Big Wheel at Pop ( Love the Big Wheel and Pop just trying to make an analogy).

Besides DVC, we have a small portfollio of options and DVC is our favorite but also most expensive. We love staying onsite and we like DVC, but like most of us it is a luxury and I guess we all have other cheaper options. I can get into just about any other TS in the WDW area for cheaper than DVC, but we like to use that for other vacations spots and when in the are prefer to stay onsite.

I can understand that you are mad about this, but don't do anything to mess up your plans. We all know that no one at DVC will care if you do not buy more points. If you really want the points, then buy them. Think about it before you do anything you might later regret. Good luck!

No, you're not being whiney!

My DH and I bought back in February. Our incentive was $7 off per point and matching Developer Points or a cruise. The incentive was applied to the down payment, so that was a plus.

When I saw new incentives release a couple of months ago, I was ticked. Then today I find out that people are paying in the low 90s per point. Well, that really made me mad. But what can I do? It is what it is.

Am i mistaken or was the webcast only meant for new purchasers? Jumping on the whiny trail, I am miffed about the party in the box that folks received where I haven't gotten a silly tote for my 400pts. Sometimes I think I would be better off not reading these boards.

• In the case of the cruise, you have already spent quite a bit going on the cruise, so they are throwing buyers a bone. Besides, these deals are only available while on the cruise.
• In the case of the Boston thing, buyers need to go to the event. What did webcast users have to do? Log onto a website? I think the extra discount is a "thanks for coming out".

It sounds as if you are still in your period to rescind your contract. If you did so that would save you another $630. Why not do that if you still can? It's the people who can no longer do it that just have to accept but it doesn't sound like that's your case. And, usually if you already have a vacation scheduled that won't even be affected by the change.

The question isn't what someone else might get. The question is: is this deal a good deal, delivering good value, for you. If so, buy it. If not, don't.

If you hadn't already signed, my advice would be slightly different. It would be: call your guide and say "get me this deal, and I'll sign right now." In any negotiation, the person who "wins" is the one willing to walk away from the deal. This strategy would tell you whether DVD is willing to walk, or not.

I was going to edit my prior post to add this, but this is really a different point, so I'll post again.

Don't allow yourself, for even one minute, to think that Disney is in the timeshare business for any reason other than profit. Membership is not family. Welcome Home is a marketing slogan. DVD is exactly like every other developer in the universe---they are out to make a buck. They do it a little differently, but that's not because their hearts are pure. It is because they have a brand to stand behind that gives them certain advantages in the market. Pure and simple.

This is a business relationship, and nothing more. The sooner you embrace that idea, the happier you'll be.

I felt the same way a couple of years ago and contacted the higher ups at Disney. Bottom line is that the different sales groups can and do offer different incentives. The incentives can also be different if your Guide is at the WDW Preview Center or works from home on the Telesales Team.

The rational is that the remote sales locations have better incentives to make more sales to pay for the added cost of their overhead.

Finally I was told that there was nothing that they could do and that's the way it is. Two weeks later they increased the incentive at AKV to double developer points.

Only you cant decide what to do. Feel the force Luke.
