1. Post your fav recipes that I am allowed to share! My sections are breakfast, crock pot, dessert, apps, meals, snacks.

2. How should I decorate it? Is there something at office max that I can buy that will put it together like a book?

Could you make it online and print it somewhere like Shutterfly or Snapfish? They frequently put out really good discount codes. I recently ordered a Shutterfly book and only had to pay shipping and it's good quality.

Or could you just do it in a binder? Decorate the binder with scrapbook paper or photos and decorate the divider tabs to make it look fancy. This would be nice if they wanted to add in some of their own recipes. You could even have a few blank recipe sheets in there so they could write their own down.

As far as recipes go, I don't know if I have any good ones. The appetizer I'm most requested to make is good though and super easy.
1 brick of cream cheese
1 jar salsa
1 cup of cheese
shredded lettuce
chopped tomato

I mix the cream cheese and salsa and spread on a plate (covers the whole plate), next sprinkle on cheese, shredded lettuce, and top with tomatoes. Serve with tortilla chips. It's the easiest thing ever but everyone always LOVES it and there is never any left.

Hope your book turns out, it sounds like a great idea.

I don't have any wonderful recipes worth sharing but I recently found http://eatathomecooks.com/ thanks to another diser and I really like it. She does simple easy recipes. My DH is very picky and doesn't like alot of fu-fu fancy recipes or many additions onions, peppers, mushrooms, etc so her recipes work well for him. You should take a look there.

I have seen other disers on here say that they get their cookbooks together and then take them Staples or another office supply store and have them bind it together. Not sure of the price but seems like a good idea and would make it last longer and seem more professional.

Not sure if you already had it planned but i would be sure to get a favorite recipe from each family member and do a spotlight of that person on the opposite page.

Have fun I've always wanted to do this but no one in my family has recipes worth printing :rotfl:!

This is a really good idea! If you could get your hands on some recipes from family members ie a grandmother that would be awesome. I have a recipe book that is a make your own. It is full of blank pages that you add your favorite recipes to. I love it.

A favorite at my house is Pizza Dip!
1 block cream cheese spread into a microwave dish. Top with pizza sauce, and the makings of pizza. I put pepperoni, mushrooms and cheese for my crew! Microwave until the cheese melts about 2 min. Serve with crackers!

Sausages in BBQ sauce. Add sliced sausages or the cocktail weiners into a crockpot. Stir in a jar of BBQ sauce and 1 jar of grape or apple jelly. Let cook on low all day and serve with toothpicks.

I don't have any recipes available, but I do have a recommendation for books. I've used TasteBook several times and they've been a huge hit. They have plenty of recipe suggestions and you can add your own. One of my favorite features is the ability to upload a picture with each recipe. I've used these for shower gifts and filled them with family recipes. For example, I'll include a recipe from my grandmother and then include her wedding picture with the recipe. It makes for a great heirloom!

This goes very well with holiday dinners, and looks so pretty. My family literally begs me to make it. I make it up to give in holiday food baskets, too.

Antipasto

3 stalks celery, sliced diagonally into 1/2" pieces

Place carrots, celery and green pepper into a medium sized saucepan with 1 cup of water. Heat to boiling, reduce heat. Cook uncovered over medium heat, stirring frequently, until vegetables are crisp tender, about 3 minutes; drain. Place cooked vegetables, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, and olives in large glass bowl.

Heat oil, vinegar, onions, garlic, sugar, salt and pepper to boiling. Stir in parsley and pimentos; pour over vegetables and toss gently. Cool, cover and refrigerate. Pack in sterilized jars.

If you make your recipe album in a 3 ring binder then people can continue to add recipes to the book.

All you need is a binder and some clear page protectors. All you have to do is print out the recipe and slide it right into the page protector. You can make your own divider sections or buy them at the office supply store.

Archivers (scrapbook stores) have adorable papers you can use to decorate the front. Again, buy an album with a clear plastic on front, that you can slip the paper into. That way the cover won't get ruined.

As for recipes you might get more if you asked for more specifics in a single post. For instance post please share your favorite "go to dinner." Then in another post ask, "What is your favorite family dessert recipe..."

Always seems like you get more answers when the post is really specific.

:goodvibesI made a fmily recipe book several years ago for Christmas when times were a little tight. I asked relatives for the recipes for some of our family favorites and included some of the recipes that my family alwys asks me to make for occasions. I did it on my computer, added photos of the family members to dress it up and placed them in plastic sleeves in binders. The idea was to add new recipes evey year....I've been slacking. Looks like I will have to get on that to add to the old books.....Thanks for reminding me.:goodvibes

There are tons of recipes on here under the cooking thread I have used lots of them and have not been disappointed! I have filled up 3 three ring binders I use page protectors and decorate the front using scrapebook supplies.

I did a family recipe book a few Christmases ago...work, but so nice to have. I asked my mother-in-law, sisters-in-law, grandma...for recipes and then put them together using the recipe cards at www.smilebox.com. Printed them out as 4x6 pictures and assembled them all in a recipe binder. Left room for adding future recipes.

Have fun!

2. How should I decorate it? Is there something at office max that I can buy that will put it together like a book?

I made a family geneolgy book and printed at CopyMax, the clear plastic cover over a stock paper that was heavier, then on all acid free paper. I paid about $5 a piece for them, sold them at $12 to cover all my cost for records I paid for, online subscriptions for research. Cost to go to court houses and cemetary's, etc.

I am doing one now for a cook book, this one I do not want to do an 8 x 10 1/2 I want the pages landscape and two book open style.
I did not look yet for a template, but If I remember I had software in one of my programs that made magaizeen cover's etc. that had a book style formatt. OR it may have been my Office Publisher software.

I am doing my great grandmothers receipe book, and family favorites that were sent to me. I am scanning the actual cook book pages with the hand written notes, and hand written added receipes that are priceless.
Good luck and have fun.

I've thought of doing a family cookbook for a while now, just haven't ever gotten around to it. I think it's a great idea!

I do have a recipe to share. While it's not a family recipe, it's form one of my very best friends who is like family to me. The recipe came to me not named, so we always call it Annette's chicken. This recipe gets raves every time I make it, and it is delicious!

Annette’s Chicken
8 chicken breasts
3 beaten eggs
Frying Magic seasoned coating (found in grocery store where bread crumbs are sold)
Mushrooms (either fresh or jarred, and as much or as little as you like)
Chicken stock or broth
Muenster cheese

Pound the chicken breasts to about ½ to ¾-inch thick and cut in half. Poke holes in chicken breasts with fork and marinate in eggs (in a Ziploc bag) overnight.

Coat chicken in Frying Magic and brown in skillet. Bread crumbs can be used, if preferred.

Put browned chicken in a single layer in a 9x13 pan. Top with mushrooms and slices of muenster cheese. Pour chicken stock or broth over top and up to the sides of the chicken. Don’t cover chicken with stock.

Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or so. If you don't cover, the cheese browns. Sometimes I take the foil off towards the end.

I usually serve it with buttered noodles, but the choice is yours! Enjoy!

I did something similar. It was one of my "blizzard of Feb. 2010" projects. I had plenty of empty binders and some of those clear page protectors. I typed up my favorite recipes using a scrapbook software, but you can do all kinds of cool things w/Word these days too. Easy to print out as many copies as you wish. For some recipes that I had printed off the computer or ripped out of magazine, I just slid those into protectors or mounted several on one sheet of paper.

I like that I can pull the recipe out and use it in the kitchen. If it gets dirty, I can just wipe it down becuase of the page protector. Those digital photosd books are really nice, but I like the page protectors on mine.

Beef Burgundy

1-2 lb beef tips
1 envelope onion soup
1 can cream of mushroom soup
Wine, enough to fill the empty soup can

Place all ingredients in a slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours. Serve over rice.

What a great idea for a gift! This is one of my favorite things to eat.

If you were planning on paying for it, this site is wonderful:

1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
1 stick margarine/butter
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp baking soda

Preheat oven to 350 and spray a bread pan.

i have 2 recipes for you!

Grinch salad (i made this for christmas!)

1 large tub cool whip
2 small boxes of pistachio pudding
16oz can crushed pineapple (do not drain!)
1/2 bag of colored marshmallows (or more if you like :) )
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

Cheeesy Chicken Rice casserole

Add 2-3 cups of cooked shredded chicken and 4 cups minute rice and 1 cup colby jack shredded cheese....put in a casserole dish and top with more shredded colby jack cheese. Bake at 350 for 20min. Serve with salsa.

also tastes really good if you cook chopped onions and bell peppers with the chicken until soft and cook in casserole...

Here are a few of my favorites:

Beer Dip
3 8 oz cream cheese
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 can Beer
1 package Hidden Valley Ranch Dry Mix
1/2 cup scallions

Mix everything together, but beer. Slowly pour beer in. (it will get messy) Chill overnight. Serve with pretzels. It is really good with the Honey wheat kind!

PORCUPINE MEATBALLS

1 lb. ground beef
1/2 c. uncooked rice
1/4 onion, chopped fine
1/2 slice white bread
1 can tomato soup
Salt & seasoning salt, to taste

Take 1/2 slice white bread, add 1/2 cup cold water and mix. Add to meat, seasoning, onion and rice. Form into meatballs and place into ungreased, covered electric fry pan or heavy fry pan.

Cover with 1 can tomato soup and 1 can of water which have been mixed together.

Place cover on skillet or fry pan. Cook on medium heat (just so tomato juice lightly boils) until rice pops out like a porcupine. Can also be placed in heavy pan in 350 degree oven (covered) until rice pops out.

Peanut Butter Crunch Bars

Ingredients

* 1 tube (16-1/2 ounces) refrigerated peanut butter cookie dough
* 4 cups miniature marshmallows
* 2 cups (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
* 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
* 1/4 cup butter, cubed
* 2 cups crisp rice cereal
* 1/2 cup salted peanuts

Directions

* Press cookie dough into an ungreased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Bake at 350° for 10-14 minutes or until edges are lightly browned and center is set. Sprinkle with marshmallows; bake 4-5 minutes longer or just until marshmallows are puffed. Cool for 5 minutes.
* Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, combine the chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter. Cook and stir until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. Remove from the heat; stir in cereal and peanuts. Drop by spoonfuls over top; gently spread over marshmallows. Cool and cut into bars. Yield: 3 dozen.

I used crunch peanut butter instead and did not add the extra peanuts

I love allrecipes.com and I believe you can make a cookbook from there but there may be a cost.

I just sent this in an email to someone that loved my baked beans. I am always asked to bring these to cookouts.

Baked Beans

This recipe makes rich, sweet, dark brown beans.

1 lb. Navy beans
1 C Sugar (I use ½ c granulated sugar & ½ c light brown sugar)
½ lb. Salt Pork Cubed
1 Lrg Onion – chopped
1 TBSP Yellow Mustard
½ C Ketchup
1 TBSP Molasses

Soak beans overnight (or boil for 30 min but I have better results with soaking). After soaking, rinse beans. Throw out any obviously bad beans. Add all ingredients and cover with just enough water to cover the ingredients (can add a little water if beans appear to be drying out). Bake @ 225° for 12 hrs or 24hrs on low in crockpot. (I have only tried the crockpot method)
