Recharging stations?

Too bad WDW apparently didn't do what they were considering. A couple years ago I was at Tony's Town Square, and the manager approached me and offered a phone charger to charge my phone while I ate. Afterwards he asked how I much charge I got, how I liked the idea, etc. He said they were experimenting with having a few chargers at TS restaurants so patrons could "recharge" while they ate. Only caveat-they had to have their own charging cords. I thought it was a great idea and told him so.

Since then, of course, portable chargers dropped so vastly in price that guests can easily buy and carry their own.

It also relieves Disney of the liability issues of the very real possibility that some guests who happened to experience phone problems after a Disney recharge would demand to have their phones repaired or replaced.

Also the liability of people charging their phones wherever they please and causing accidents. I watched a dad with a tray and too little kids at a QS almost faceplant tripping over other peoples phones and chargers stretched out over a chair. And somebody at a signature restaurant was at the hostess stand charging their phone???? Totally in the way of the CM trying to check people in and what if one of those heavy menus had knocked phone to the floor. You bet that guest would be demanding replacement.

Yes please get portable chargers. Or better yet buy a droid turbo goes all day and night with no need for a charger!!!

Thoughts.... pay attention to the mah rating... what is the make and model of your phone? What is the phone's mah rating? do you have a tablet? Will you be travelling with more than one phone?
  • 2000mah rated external batteries will give a phone a partial charge from zero. This size charger is really portable.
  • 6000mah is an all around charger. Will charge the phone a few times and a partial charge on a tablet.
  • 12000mah will fully charge a tablet and phones a half-dozen times. Love my iPower that has 16,800mah. Yes these large batteries get heavy and bulky, but they do the job.
  • some will get battery phone cases, but you need a new case everytime you get a new phone or Apple changes connectors
  • some feature more than one charging port to charge more than one device
  • some feature flashlights
  • some can charge a laptop as well as your phone and tablet
  • some can boost your car as well as charge your phone and tablet. I have a couple of old cars and saves me time waiting for a tow truck.
  • don't be a wall hugger. It's too easy to forget your phone behind at a restaurant. Would you tape $400 against a wall for someone too take?

The liability issue may explain why they chose not to do it, thanks. When I tested it at Town Square, it seemed like such a great idea. But now I see "the other side". And as far as the cords and locations, I can definitely see that nightmare also. At the time I was at a table right next to a wall so the cord didn't have to be stretched. Guess I was lucky!

what ever happened to the charging lockers they were testing a while ago?

The times have drastically changed for the need/usefulness/liability of these kind of things.

Another similar example of technology outpacing "plans" is that Disney was actually testing using
portable "wireless" game system units to offer ride info and the like to guests in the park.
By the time the tests were underway, suddenly "everyone" was using smart phones.
A leap in public acceptance of new technology eclipsed a major Disney plan.

I have one the size of lipstick and it will give my iPhone one full charge.

I used it everyday I was at Disney and only needed a partial charge per day.

Drinking around the world was fun because we would find a place to charge while enjoying our drinks. We ended up taking photos of the phone being charged with the drink of choice. :)

Another vote for a Jackery. It's about the size of an iPad Mini so its easy enough to carry around. I bought a short cord for it off Amazon, so I can plug it into my phone and keep them in my purse together while charging. When fully charged, the Jackery can give off enough juice to power both of our iPhones to 100%, with a little leftover. It's been a pleasant surprise and something I rarely go without now.
