I just got an email titled Helpful information for your upcoming vacation. There was something in it about a reception at the Top Of The World Lounge that I could make reservations for when I arrive. Is this something new? We will be staying at the BWV.

Here is what it had to say:

You're invited to a reception at the Top of the World Lounge
Don't miss an enchanting event at the extraordinary Top of the World Lounge atop Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort.

At this event, you'll hear what's new at Disney Vacation Club, get a special sneak peek at some of this resort's incredible features and enjoy a Member reception at the spellbinding Top of the World Lounge.

Space is extremely limited.

RSVP at a Disney Vacation Club information desk at your resort upon arrival.

This is news to me. Most likely an afternoon with free sodas (and magic lemonade?) available. ;)

They had something like this when the DVC show was going around the cities and finally wound up at the contemporary.

Beware the addonitis!

LOL got the email.... called members services..... here is what they said:

RVSP at your resort (DVC kiosk could also be what they meant since they are at all the resorts). It is held every morning at 9:00 AM at the BLT. We are going to make it a point to visit a session next week.

They said its a chance for us to know all the new things to know about dvc...sounds like a welcome home event minus the contest and prizes maybe?

They were doing tours between 2:00 and 4:00 before. Now they moved it to 9:00 AM. What's the big deal?

:) Bill

I just got the same thing. We are staying at the BCV, but it was an invite to BLT for a reception. No time, no day mentioned. :confused3

There was no date or time mentioned in my email either.

My understanding is the afternoon session was cutting into the set up time for the staff who comes in to open the lounge for the regular evening operating hours.....

As opposed to 9am cutting into our rope drop time! :rotfl2: Seriously, I would be interested in attending this during our trip in may, but I've been working out too much for the TSM and soarin fastpass dashes to give that up for a sales pitch! ;)

I expect the 9am hours will be like a desert up there. I don't understand why they couldn't do Noon to 2pm. The lounge isn't open until... err... 5pm? I know bartenders and it certainly doesn't take them more than an hour to take inventory, and restock before opening busier bars than the TOTWL. Cleaning is done the night before after closing.

If they are serving a buffet breakfast it may sway us.

We went to this event on Monday (March 22, 2010). Here are the details as we were told and experienced:

  1. 1:00PM at Bay Lake Tower
  2. Transportation to/from BLT not arranged, get yourself there
  3. Kids 4 and up can stay at the Community Hall
  4. Kids 3 and younger have to stay with parents, coloring books at event
  5. We went up the elevator and existed at the top of the world floor
  6. saw the views from MK and BL sides of the resorts
  7. Enjoyed the observation deck, not enough time, but we were running late
  8. Entered a busy Top of the World Lounge, but found a seat where the kids could color
  9. My 3 year old LOVED the cheesecake on a stick
  10. Incentives were talked about, but I don't have them written down here
  11. However, the incentives did have options, either cruise of $$ off based on number of points
  12. Also, I think both options had back dating. I think they gave you points to one use year month in the past.
  13. We exited the other side of the Top of the World lunge (after receiving a DVC pin)
  14. Taken down stairs to see the resort, including the models of the studio and one bedroom
  15. Given fast passes (BEST PART)
  16. Given the chance to talk to a guide about adding on points

The fast passes were plastic cards that had 3 fast passes each, and one was given for every member of the family. These fast passes are instant, walk up to the fast pass station, enter the card and have a valid fast pass without waiting.

I loved the lounge, my purpose for going to the event. Didn't add on any points, and didn't really impact my day. Used the Fast passes at the park later in the week.

One of these days I'll stay at my home resort, but I haven't found a resort I haven't like yet.

no this is something completely different.

other DVC members (other than those just staying at BLT) can come and see the Lounge and Deck.

definitely worth it. Even won the gift cards!!!!

you can see the models - but if they have still have one open - it might be your only opportunity to see a GV. that is not a guaranteed. some nights all the GV are sold out.

you get some food (really almost a breakfast) and then you get to see what DVC is planning - ours was too much on Cal - hopefully since they have announced it - yours will also be on the new Fantasyland.

then after they have a contest - w/experts.... I was not one.:confused3

anyway it did not matter in the end got picked for the CASH. it was surpose to be two $50 gift cards. can't say only spend one.

bring your camera - did not bring mind - and big mistake.

now they don't let you in the swimming pool area. but you can go around it.

We did this "reception" as a tour of BLT back on March 3rd, 9:00 AM (be there at 8:30 AM). They served us a continental breakfast at the TOTW lounge. They did a game show question and answer while doing a spiel about the incentives. Toured BLT, saw a 1 and 2 BR lockoff, GV, pool, community hall. Spoke to a guide and received a pair of fast pass cards (3 fast passes on each card). Also received a DVC pin, portfolio with note pad and a couple of DVC ink pens and 2 DVC lanyards. We were actually staying at BLT, so didn't do the complete tour as we wanted to be at Epcot by noon for a lunch reservation. We left the tour group at 10:15 after the tour of the GV, finished with the guide and got our fast passes by 10:35.

BTW, by having the fast passes, we didn't need to do the rope drop. Have to admit we used all six fast passes at TSM.

mind was early - even before 9am - like 7:30 or 8:30.

loved it

forgot about the fass passes - you get them after you take the tour and talk to the guide. We got ours early because the guy who handed them out was leaving.

thanks! thePecks

wrote down the incentitives but cannot find them.:rolleyes1
