Reception Thoughts

No, through some clever quering, we found the other couple through one of the facebook groups. It is not you. Weren't you having your reception at Pixar Place? Has that changed?

That's very cool that you were able to find the other couple! We signed our contract to have our reception at Pixar Place, but when the BEO came, we freaked out! Plus I really hated gambling with the venue fee and ride cost that it wouldn't ran, because we basically got nothing if they moved us to a different location.

Where did you change it to CinderellasBFF?

Is your reception at a location in AK? I know of a couple having a first of it's kind reception there in February. Curious if it's the same.

I wish they would get their stories straight. We are dying to have an in park vow renewal next year at AK but have been told absolutely not due to construction on Avatarland.

Do we think that Disney will actually call it "Avatar Land?" I sure hope not. It just sounds dumb to me. I hope they at least call it "Pandora" or something, since that was the planet.

I'm personally not looking forward to that expansion. I'm sure it'll be cool and all...but it just feels out-of-place at a Disney property (IMO).:offtopic:

They didn't even have the good sense to call Carsland "Radiator Springs", so I'm not holding my breath.

Oh sigh. Apparently there are just some major "bads" with the "good" under the helm of Iger. :/ I honestly miss the days of Eisner.

My shoot from the hip response is that your MIL looks desperate. A middle age woman copying her child's wedding is just uncomfortable. It's sort of like when a friend's MIL showed up in a lacy white dress to her wedding. Friend was upset at being "upstaged" but everyone was judging the MIL. I see this as similar.

It doesn't make me angry to know that you could try to talk Disney into using a new location....but at the same time, it does make me frustrated. DF and I would have loved to get married in front of Spaceship Earth in Epcot. Now, I wonder if that would have even been an option if we'd asked. I want to say that I asked my consultant before I ever signed a contract, and she said no...but I don't quite remember.

DF would have loved a Spaceship Earth wedding (it's "the spot" that represents Epcot for everyone, and he LOVES the ball). Technically, I guess we're at a point where we could still change it...but I think making that kind of change now would be so hard. It'd require so much additional planning and changes (i.e. more money) to our floral budget. One of the big reasons we picked Japan is because it doesn't need as much "dressing up" to look nice--whereas because the area around Spaceship Earth is so futuristic...we'd probably need a lot of things to make it meet my vision of what my wedding should look like. Additionally, I can see issues with the time, because we'd need to have our ceremony WAY before the park opened. The beauty of Japan is that there's a lot of time to get your ceremony out of the way with a 9 AM start time, since World Showcase isn't open until 11 AM.

I'm still holding out hope that this special location is the ballroom at the "Be Our Guest" restaurant. I think I would DIE to have my wedding there. Imagine getting married in that ballroom? It'd be like getting married in the movie!!!

If you ever talk them into in front of Spaceship Earth, just a heads up they'll likely say you are required to do a 7am ceremony. I got told that for France Pavilion (which I adore), since it's opened to public for access to the bakery when Future World area opens at 9am. :headache: We just couldn't go with that - it'd be a 2am wakeup, and our families would kill us! :sad1:

Thanks again for your incredibly helpful insight, alyaki. :)

Yeah....I just talked to DF. He said that he "would do it" at 7 AM, but wouldn't be happy about it. And I tend to agree. It's a sacrifice we would have made if it were that important to us...but it's not, so we're good. I don't want to get up any earlier than I have to....nor do I want to pay any more for our floral than we already are (and we'd probably have to in order to dress it up). So, Japan it is! :)

You should check with your photographer and coordinator because we got some shots with spaceship earth on our way into the living seas salon. Sadly, no monorail though... But it was a possibility if the timing was right.

Thanks, Microgrl! :) I had thought I'd bring that up with them. Spaceship earth shots would mean SO MUCH to my groom.

Thanks again everyone for your feedback. At this point, I think we are going to “let it go” and just stick with our original reception location. :)

Just to clarify, we did not ask for this location. Our sales guy suggested it after he asked us a few questions to see if we would qualify. Your sales person may have asked you the same questions and assuming you answered “no” they just moved on without saying anything. Relatively speaking, there are very few people who qualify based on today’s criteria. That's why I was sorta surprised we were told not to share because even if we told people, not many would be able to do it there anyway. Of course, the one person we did tell qualified which caused this whole dilemma. :upsidedow

No, it is not BOG

No it is not in AK

Hey, I think I know where you're having your reception, huskies! :goodvibes Such an awesome place. The only reason I'm pretty sure I know it is because I'm betting Anne's may be the first one there (in February). If it is that location, I'm envious. It's such a cool spot (would have loved it for our brunch reception...but we don't meet one of the reqs for it right now).

I definitely wouldn't change that location - it's one that not many people will be able to use, so it's definitely something special!
Thanks for the feedback!! And yes, you have it correct...

I would like to know if it was even a possibility. Is it the frozen house where anna and elsa was originally? Can't be the old Malestrom room as thats going to be under construction, unless it is done by then... come to think of it, it may be done then... :/ I would die for Akershus!

We're probably going to try to do this too - we have LSS as our reception venue too, so hopefully they go for it. :yo-yo: Which reminds me - I should email myself about that so I remember to ask!

Well the suspense is killing me to find out where your super secret location is..... HOWEVER I believe that every disney planner finds a way to make each brides wedding super special with that disney magic touch. My fiancé and I are total foodies and the chef has come up with some amazing creations for our reception and desert reception which totally fit us.

As for the MIL tell her to design her own wedding instead of copying yours. She needs to find her something special otherwise the wedding will not be special to her. You have this location, I have food, she needs to find her own thing!

Ooo what's your menu like? I'm curious!

I wouldn't change your plans either. This is where you want it and MIL may change her location if you could talk to her and give her some new locations. If they still have it in the same place as you, then as others have said, it will just look like they are copying you. I wouldn't let them in on any of your other details though.

So I remember reading this thread when it first started forever ago!.. What was this big secret venue? Did anyone find out?

Hi!! I am the OP and I have posted the location on other threads. We got married on 6/23/15. We weren't trying to keep it a secret, only respecting Disney's specific request not to post it on social media sites like Facebook or Disboards.

The location was Top Of The World Lounge. During our initial sales call, our sales person asked if we owned DVC which we do, and then specifically where we owned. When we said Bay Lake Tower our sales person said DFTW has been trying to get into Top of The World Lounge but DVC would not allow it even though that prime location sits empty all day everyday. DVC finally agreed to allow weddings but only for BLT owners so of course we jumped at the opportunity to have our reception there. The location was awesome. And yes, my mother in law is also getting married there in November. She will be the second wedding there and they are mostly copying what we did which at this point is fine with us. We are just happy our day was so incredible. Here are a few pics:
