After all the waiting and counting down, the trip ended up being a bust for the most part. I ended up with pneumonia and laid up for most of the trip. Didn't make it through a single park. It was so hot (not a surprise), but combined with my fever and respiratory difficulties, I just couldn't do it. We had to cancel almost all our ADRs-including our BOG lunch that we really wanted to try.

A couple things that we experienced and learned from.

1). I will not do the summer again-no matter what plan I think I have to stay cool.

2). We enjoyed Le Cellier, but didn't think it was worth the cost. We did split the Prime Rib and it was plenty for the two of us. My DS9 had very little interest in any of their kid's food offerings and ended up eating some of the steak, also. The pretzel bread was very good. The cheddar soup...it was OK. I actually thought it was too bacony flavored.

3). I got the text that our room was ready around noon on arrival day. Didn't have any of my room requests granted, though. The walk to the main building was pretty far (stayed at Pop). The walk from the parking lot was also pretty far (we drove). The room and grounds and pool was very clean (computer pool). We definitely got our money's worth out of the refillable mugs. We enjoyed the food court breakfasts quite a bit...the Pop waffles and fruit were very good. All-in-all, we probably won't stay onsite again-only because we don't take advantage of Disney transportation or EMH, so for all the walking we had to do, it just didn't seem worth it. I realize my perception may be colored due to being sick and wasn't up for it, though.

I'm not sure when we will be back, but it will definitely be in a cooler weather time.

Orlando in the summer is tough, and I can't imagine being sick on top of that. Sorry your trip wasn't what you hoped it would be.

I know how you feel. On our first trip, we all got very sick (thanks to someone on the airplane over), and we had to miss a about two days of our week long vacation. We only went to MK once, and we hardly did anything there, and we never even went to AK. I think we all learned a very important lesson on that trip, never travel in December ever again!

So sorry you're trip turned out to be so disappointing. It must be awful to go through all the planning and anticipation just to get that sick when the time finally comes. :( I've gone in August once and the heat is unbearable - can't even imagine feeling so ill on top of it. Pneumonia can really wipe you out too. I hope you're next trip more than makes up for this one!

I was sick on our first (and only) trip to Universal. I think it had a lot to do with why I didn't enjoy myself, even though I tried to power through and stay upbeat. So sorry you were sick on your trip!

So sorry that you were sick, I know how tough that can be. One trip I spent 3 days in the room just sleeping, DH and DS just went without me because I was miserable. Hoping that next trip will be much better for you!

Ugh. Been there done that. My "sick.0" trip report talks about getting sick 2 days after the plane landed. And I was there for the 5K and the Half marathon, and was SO sick that I went ahead and ran them. Well, limped them. Just after the 5K my son got sick (and it was just the two of us during this part of the trip). Had my aunt and her grandson come in to watch him while I "ran" the half, then THEY got sick and got the rest of the household sick (and my cousin was 8+ months pregnant at the time). And then we went to Daytona to visit them but we all were just sick and got together one evening. (and we had 2 weeks left of the trip, LOL, but thankfully DH got there by that time)

NOT fun at all.

I'm not sure when we will be back, but it will definitely be in a cooler weather time.

Just don't go when it's *too* cold. The above happened in January, and it was literally freezing many days. And that's not the only time we've gone when it's actually 32 degrees.... Ugh.

And yes, you are viewing it through the sick filter. Give it all a second try someday.

I'm sorry that you didn't have a great trip. I would say give it a try a different time of year, maybe even a different resort on property so you don't associate it with this trip. Things will look and feel very different if you aren't sick. Hope you're feeling better now!

So sorry that you got sick for your trip. That is such a bummer. :worried:

I had pneumonia myself this past April and it was awful! Hope you're on the mend now.

When we went in May, my husband picked up the worst respiratory virus ever. He started feeling sick a couple of days before we left. After getting home, he ended up missing a week and a half from work. Then i got it, and my DS, then DDIL. I missed 4 days from work myself. ugh! We ate usually so very careful about washing hands and using hand sanitizer.
Sorry you had a bad trip.

I got sick during the last couple of days of our trip last September. Pretty positive it was given to me by the hacking woman next to me on the plane to Orlando. I really hate flying and often get sick after sitting in the germ infested recycled air on a plane. Anyway, I was sick for a good six weeks. :( So sorry that you had a similar experience.

I've done a sick trip too. It's awful. For us it was when we stayed at Wilderness Lodge in JAnuary many years ago. Both me and my husband got so sick (from the plane, like a lot of others). IT was freezing. We laid in bed and cleaned the sundry shop out of cold medications. Miserable trip.

You should give it another try though because the difference between sick and non-sick trips is vast.

I'm sorry you were sick. It is no fun being sick away from home no matter where you are. Last December I was sick pretty much my entire trip. I managed two days at the parks--partial days and spent the rest of the time in my room. Luckily, I was at Kidani Villas with a great view of the animals roaming their savannah. I was sick the week before my trip so it may have been related to that, but I didn't actually get sick until right after I ate at Sanaa. Another really fortunate thing was being able to change my room right before I got sick. I'd been at the far end of Kidani with a lousy view of animals, but I asked if I could change rooms and was able to get an awesome room. I was VERY thankful for that after I got sick.

I've stayed at POP a couple of times. It's okay for a value, but some of the rooms are really far away from the buses. And the POP bus stops at the parks were always the absolute farthest away. That's part of the reason I rent DVC points so I can stay at the deluxe resorts. You might give an onsite resort one more try so your stay isn't colored by being miserable.

I go in May and December every year. May is hotter than December, but I find it a lot more managable than July. I went once in July and said never again. Super hot and super crowded. So far I've never had freezing cold weather in December and the crowds seem slightly less than May, but there is no true slow time at WDW any more.

I hope your next trip is very magical to make up for this not so magical one. :)

I have gone for 2 weeks the last 2 summers and it was brutal. We were at Disney so of course we had a good time but even with 2 weeks there we didn't get 1/2 of the stuff done we normally do. It was just to hot to be out longer than a few hours. One stay was at Wilderness Lodge and the other at Boardwalk, so proximity to parks was perfect. We aren't going this summer (doing Disneyland instead) but are going in November. No more summer visits for us.

The heat/humidity/whatever was remarkable Thu/Fri/Sat. (I thought the weather was nice before that - we were there 6/16 to 6/25.) We go end of August annually, so used to the weather, but this was worst than even Aug. 2015 - when even locals thought it was very hot (105 to 110 'real feel' many days in a row).

The "real feel" on Friday according to Wunderground got to 114 degrees! We were healthy and still only did about 2 things in a park and then left for resort AC (and then pool), if it makes you feel any better!

It's been mostly nice and not that humid this year so if you get a day or two of that nice weather, the day or three that it's 90s and high humidity it really punches you hard. much harder than arriving with it miserable and making it work.

I'm sorry you got sick! My daughter fell ill on our second day of a 5 day trip back in January. It was awful. She and I had put so much planning in to the trip (it was her first time at Disney in almost 3 years and the first time as a tween instead of a child) we had roller coasters planned, long park days, etc. She just wasn't up for any of it. Getting sick at Disney really is the worst.

i could never do disney in the summer. i wilt in the heat and no there is no way i could handle parks and line ups in hot, humid, sticky weather. nevertheless with respiratory issues. i loved december! temps were perfect and comfortable, even a light sweater in the evening.

with that being said, each one of us got sick on our week there. ds had such a bad fever on the day we scheduled hollywood studios... he is a huge star wars fan. he was 9 so couldn't put him in a stroller and ended up renting a wheelchair. he was mortified but finally agreed to sit in it when i put his sorcerer mickey hat on and a light throw blanket across him... he pretended to be asleep so "people won't look at me". we all had 1-2 days each of miserableness (i had my shining moment at epcot - i snapped at my entire family and dh gently suggested i take a break by myself... back at the CR, he took the kids to the pool and suggested i lay down).

i could see how that would put a damper on it when no matter what you are doing... it just isn't "fun" when you feel like crap.

In 2012, our younger daughter got sick, not sure what could have caused it, but she claimed it was the beef at 50's prime time, however, others ate it and did not have the same happen. The fact that she road RnRC three times afterwards could have played a part, however, a fever accompanied everything else, so we really never knew. She was sick all night and slept all the next day day, our one splurge when we stayed at Beach Club too. My DH agreed to stay with her and my other DD and I went to AK to save or ADR. She never looked herself the rest of the trip, but thankfully, the CM's were very gracious when they heard her about it and let her move up front to several Meet and Greets. She could not stand being in the sun. Your story is so much worse than ours and I sincerely hope your next trip will be very magical.
