How has the experience been getting n through security recently?

How long are the lines at various times of day? How long does it take to get through? How many scanners are they using?

Just trying to get up to date info for a friend heading to DLR soon!

I went on Sunday around 11 and re-entered around 4pm and it wasn't that bad. They had more lanes open in the mornings during their busiest hours. Got through in about 5 minutes, and they were using one or two scanners selecting people at random.

When we were there over New Year. Security lines weren't that bad coming from Harbor Blvd - comparable to past visits. They did make DH go through the metal detectors once. DD1 commented that she didn't think that security was very good because they took seemingly random people through the metal detectors.

I did try to go to DTD once early afternoon, and the security line from that side seemed to be really long.

I was there on Friday and Sunday, and lines weren't any longer than usual (and Sunday was a busy day). I went through the Downtown Disney side, but did not go at rope drop. On Sunday, I got there around 9:30, and it took about an hour to get from the freeway to the esplanade, but it was the line to the parking structure that took so long. Once I got to the trams, it was normal timing.

Thanks to everyone sharing their experiences. I would still love to hear more!

Each time I've gone it hasn't been too awful. The only time that was a bit long was when I went at Rope Drop, it took just an hour to get from the highway to the parking structure due to the line in the parking structure. The tram wait wasn't bad, and it isn't too awful to get through security.. it was more of a pain for parking and going through the turnstiles.

I was there on Tuesday evening and was selected by security. It took longer for the bag checker to check my bag then it did for me to go through the metal detectors. They didn't use wands. The whole thing (bag check and walk through metal detector) was fast no more than 5 minutes since there weren't too many people entering at 6pm.

We were just there. We were at rope drop Wednesday and Thursday. No wait at all and I was selected for the extra screening both days. EMH was 9am and we were at security by about 8:45. Standing inline to enter the park by 8:50.

We've only been to the parks on weekends since the New Year and like others have reported, security line waits didn't feel any worse than it did pre-detectors. That goes for the monorail in DTD as well. What felt worse than usual is the traffic getting into the M&F garage. Last weekend could have been a result of everyone itching to go to the parks due to the rain earlier in the week, but it was really crowded, even in the AM prior to rope drop (when it's typically not that bad getting into the garage).

Here now...
Have been entering from the DTD side. Lines have been very manageable, and not unusually long. I am sure tomorrow will be a different story with the races going on.
I was selected twice to go through the metal detector. Process was less than a minute.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. It doesn't sound like it's been too bad.

I've been here the last few days and it hasn't been any long than usual from the DTD entrance. The last couple of days when we've taken the monorail though, they've been putting everything through the metal detectors, and it has definitely been a bit slower, but then again the monorail's been lined up too so it hasn't much mattered, lol.

I did learn to be careful if you wear belts though. I went through once with one of Disney seatbelt type belts and that's enough metal to set off the detector which then took significantly longer!

Just got back from a short trip last week. Mostly going through the reg. security check was the same time as usual. Although one, time we got in one lady's line who was so slow! She was making people take things out of their bags. I had a little purse and I had to take out my hand sanitizer so she could see under it. Then she had me unzip my jacket and pat myself down! Now, if this was the new standard, then fine. But none of the other checkers were doing this! If I was a bad guy, I would have just changed lines when I saw it. So it did no good for her to check like that if no one else does.

Anyway, we discovered that the metal detector people were simple grabbing the next person in line, walking with them over to the metal detectors, and then when that was finished, they went back and got the next person coming out of security. One time he gave us a choice who to send over. He said he only needed one from our group. It didn't take very long. We probably got picked about half the time we went through.

We've been here since Thursday. Thurs and Fri all three of us were being sent to the metal detectors. Saturday they stopped sending DS through, acting like it was crazy for him to go through. Today none of us were sent through the detectors.

They were making everyone go through the metal detector when we entered Saturday morning after the 10k. Not sure how long that lasted. Still did not take long though.

Interesting note, during race hours Metal Scanners were being used for entry into DTD.

Do they ever use a wand? My son has an ICD (implanted defibrillator)- he can go through a metal detector but he can't be wanded (is that a word). He has a card saying he has an ICD but he has some memory issues so I'm afraid he will forget to tell them he can't be wanded. We have a large group going- im trying to figure out if I need to drill into all of them that he can't be wanded.

Yes, they can use a wand at times. People go through the detector and if the walk-through one goes off they will use the wand to double check. My fiance's belt set off the detector and they had to use to wand to verify it was the belt. You should definitely warn any one walking in with your son of the restriction.

We were in the parks on Sunday 1/10. That morning they were making everyone go through the detectors, coming in from the Harbor side. Still, it didn't take too long. We left our room at the far end of the BWPPI at 8:20am (for a 9am opening), did bag check, metal detectors and still got to the gate line at 8:34am. The other times we went through security they were picking at random. The night prior, I was chosen to go through and the final time no one in our party was picked.
