We are just back from a 12 day trip to WDW. We usually go to the world 2-3 times a year. This was our longest trip to date.
We noticed a few things that do point out that John, Kevin , and Pete are right on target regarding the affect of the recession on Disney.
-While we stayed at the BWV we saw Lots of people trying the new Kat Kora resurant---and we asked several groups how they like it----NO ONE and I mean NO ONE said they like the food. 2 People said they like Kats wine selection.---but no one like the food......needless to say----we didn't waste our time there.
-We saw Lots of people doing food and wine. But it seemed that this year people were only buying one item and sharing it. In the past it seemed that someone would order for example, the escarot from France, and someone else from the party would order the beef....and then they'd share.
--The other thing we noticed was that as our family members left on the magical express we didn't see very many "bags of memories". Maybe people ship things home.....but we didn't see even one kid with a "Mickey" Donald. or stuffed Pooh.
I think while people are still coming to the world.....they aren't spending their money in the same ways they used to. I found that we ate "out of the world" alot more this trip than in the past.
Anyone else notice these things too?

I ate at Kouzinna and liked the food.

I was about to post the same thing! I had Spanikopita and the Pastitsio Greek lasagna, and I thought both were very good.

I didn't notice people sharing food samples from the F&W booths. They're too small to share! :lmao:

I haven't tried Kouzzina yet, but I've had friends who thought their meals were good when they ate there about a month ago.

At F&W, I ate plenty! You would have seen me ordering both the escargot AND the short rib. Most of the time I would only order one item, though.
But that's when I was doing stuff solo. On the last day, I had a friend with me, and I we shared quite a bit of items from various kiosks. YMMV.

The thing I noticed was that when the temps went down to 70, Epcot was jammed with "locals"....er "townies". (Sorry Kathy! ;) ) Who could blame them? The weather felt like August most of the time I was there.

Now I remember why I didn't share...I wanted the food samples all for me. :teeth: There was no way I would part with 1 pot sticker or *shudder* try to split the chocolate lava cake! I had the salmon from Canada almost very day - yum yum!

I agree with the OP. We ate at Kouzzina last month and were VERY underwhelmed. The food wasn't inedible by any means, but I have NO reason to go back. We left so unsatisfied that we went over to BW Bakery afterward (which was delicious).

What you observed at F&W, we did that very thing! DH2B and I would get 1, maybe 2 things from each booth and then share. Not because we couldn't afford it, but more because of the value. Also since it was our first time at F&W, we weren't sure of what we'd like.

As for the shopping, I have a little bit of a different perspective. If we see something with the WDW logo on it that we want (i.e. shirts, hats, etc.), we'll get them. But as for collectibles (big figs, Jim Shore, etc.), since Disney has been homogenizing EVERYTHING we just don't need to buy them there. We're fortunate to live close to DL and can get the same exact stuff here, and with our AP discount, to boot! Even the clothing is exactly the same in CA and FL, they just have a different park name on it!! While it's convenient for us, it makes me sad to see the SAME merchandise over and over again.

I did give my friend an extra spoon for a bite of my chocolate lava cake, but that was the second time I had gotten that. Normally I'd be completely selfish when it comes to chocolate!

Me, too! I had the chocolate lava cake only once, and if I had been at home - I would've licked the plate! :lmao:

When we went two weeks ago Kouzinna had over an hour wait so some one must like it

Food and Wine may be people are just watching their weight

We saw plenty of people spending money we went to MK on a Saturday at 8pm the shop was out of jumpers
