We are cruising June 26 and are getting concerned about all the negative food comments I'm reading here. We have been satisfied with the food on our last 3 cruises-for the most part. For repeat cruisers--are you finding the food quality to be going down hill? Let's hear from recent Magic cruisers.

My experience on the 5/1 Eastern cruise was that dinner was pretty good (not great, but good). Breakfast and lunch were ok. Pinocchio's Pizzeria has lousy pizza. The waffles and pancakes for breakfast were very dry.

I'd say the food was fine, but nothing special.

I just loved pizza, and I spent most of my life in Italy,so I could say that I know what good pizza is.food for diner was ok.nothing great, but we were not hungry.lunch and breakfast were good.just regular food.for the price we are paying it should be little better, but when you take everything in consideration,it is great cruise line.

I hope the folks that have cruised and not enjoyed the food write to tell DCL. That's the only way it will get better.

I am astounded at the comments about the food.
On our cruises on Disney the food has been very good. I think I had one meal I didn't care for. All you have to do is tell your server and they'll whip out ANYTHING else you want off of the menu.
I'll say if the food sucks or isn't up to par. I've not found that the case.
Seems to be alot of folks with much higher standards than me when it comes to cuisine I guess :)

Cheers,
Grumbo

I did mention on my comment card that the pizza was pretty bad.

Seemed to me the crust was frozen and thawed and the cheese was more vegetable oil than milk. I was VERY disappointed with the pizza. I'd expect that in a school cafeteria.

BTW, I grew up in NJ, the pizza state ;) so I've got a good bit of experience with what makes good pizza myself.

Take it for what it's worth (not a whole lot)... just one guy's opinion.

we find some venues to be better than others with respect to food....I think you know that having cruised a few times before...I dont think the food has gotten any better or worse since our first cruise....if anything, we've learned what to avoid.....

We found the food in the dining rooms to be alright. Not fabulous, not bad, just fine. Deserts were kind of crummy.

The biggest dissappointment was the Buffet. Same stuff, different day. Breakfast had little to no imagination. Same old stuff different day. No variety at all. It really was the smallest, worst buffet of 12 cruises that I've been on.

I was on the May 1st Eastern with jrydberg. I would say over all the food was good, not great but definitely not terrible. Some meals were better then others and even with in the meal, the meals would vary. ie. I orderd 2 lobster tails for dinner on the lobster night. The first one was excellent, but the second was just ok (seemed over cooked and a little bland).

I was also on the wonder a couple of years back and I find that food quality hasn't really changed. I wasn't overly impressed with the food back then and I would say the same about this trip.

Don't get me wrong here, I very much enjoyed my trip and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Hey guys your'e starting to worry some of us first time cruisers, i guess if you were unhappy with aspects of the cruise then you'll be booking a different one in future and have learnt from your own experiences.
But you're starting to dim my excitement and i so want to have a great holiday.
Tell me something good about the cruise please :D

Traycie with very few exceptions you'll note that most have travelled with DCL on many occassions so as "average" or "crummy" as the food is, they keep coming back for more :)

I wouldn't let it get you down Traycie.

Cheers,
Grumbo

I thought the dinner and deserts were great! And I have the pounds to show for it!.... I always went with the recommendations from the servers which wasn't always the chef's recommendations on the menu... I did not get the lobster which I think is way overrated...not like Maine lobster at all!

My daughter and son went with the chicken and steak a few nights and I think that they didn't seem too appetizing..But as for the main selections and the deserts (I am a chocoholic so I was in heaven ! ) ...I thought they were great...
Maybe it was the fact that I wasn't cooking that made it taste that much better!

Plutos has great hamburgers Sandwiches and wings at the Outlook bar, good, good, good! The pizza was alright... reminded me of frozen pizza and topsiders for lunch was good (but not great...) On the seven day they had a different theme everyday for lunch (Mexican, chinese, italian) and it was your basic buffet food.. I never tried the restaurants for lunch so I can comment...

Thanks Grumbo, you're right and as long as there's food in my belly, warmth on my skin and a comfy bed i'll be happy = now don't anyone start telling me about the weather or the beds :jester:

You want something positive? My 5 year old daughter and I absolutely loved our cruise. Definitely will do another one (when I can afford it). I have VERY few complaints about anything on the cruise. The staff was fantastic, the shows were great, the kids' club was excellent (even for my very shy daughter)... it's an experience you will not soon forget. By all means, get excited about it! I doubt you'll be disappointed.

People also have different tastes. I thought everything I ate on our first cruise was good. The sea bass at Tritons's was my favorite.

Like another poster said, if you order something and don't like it, tell your server. They will be more than happy to bring you something different.

We were on the 4/17 Eastern. I thought the food at dinner was better earlier in the week. Towards the end of the week I did not like the selections as much. For example, one night I ordered the roast pork as I did not want beef again and did not want the seafood. The pork was rather dry and not that great. On semi-formal night I did not want lobster and ordered the chef's selection which was roast turkey and again I did not think it was that great rather dry and commercial tasting. The side dishes were pretty good most of the time. We don't eat a lot of fish except shrimp and grilled white fish so we did not eat much seafood so I can't comment on this. We did eat shrimp a few times and it was pretty good. I will say our servers continually asked if everything was "excellent" and would have done anything to make us happy. Maybe by the middle to the end of the week I was just tired of eating so much! We personally liked the desserts many of the nights.

The food on the luncheon buffet was ok. Chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, etc. by the pool were good and the service was very fast.

Palo's was quite good but not as good as I remembered from the Wonder a few years ago.

We generally had room service for breakfast; cereals and pastries. We ordered the night before and it was delivered very promptly. We used it as a wake up call (in addition to the wake up phone service) as they call before they come to the room. So nice to have my coffee the minute I woke up!!

All in all I don't thing the food is outstanding but pretty good for the most part.

One thing I have learned about food is that everyone has different tastes. Just like when someone recommends a restaurant and you find it disappointing. I have not cruised yet but will in July. Living in the New York area so we are used to fine food. I am not holding high expectations for the food because that is not why we chose DCL. We chose DCL because it seemed to have the most to offer our kids thus allowing DH and I to have some quality time together. I am sure we will not be disappointed in that area.

The cruise over all is fantastic!!! We will be doing it again in the future. Just generally speaking the food didn't blow me away, but it's not like its table scraps either. There are some very good things on the menu. I am not a picky eater and will eat just about anything, but at the same time it would take a lot to impress, me food wise, as well.

I did enjoy many of the deserts and I am not a big dessert eater!

Wonder 2001 and Magic last month. I thought the food was about the same on both trips.

I think the food is good for the most part, especially considering the number of people they must feed. Having said that, I consider of the ships and the crew to be great. I think Disney could improve the food to be on the same standard as their staterooms and service.

I really enjoyed some meals while others were so-so.

I wouldn't worry about it future cruisers. If you're really unhappy
about the food being served, just let your servers know about it. They really try to satisfy your requests. On our first cruise my 7 year old nephew ate bow-tie pasta with butter everynight!

Relax and have a good time.

Maminnie and I were on the same cruise and I loved the roast Pork and the Turkey too.... So it is different for everyone....
( I am a really easy going person, my husband who is type A has a totally different perspective on the trip also!!)

One thing to keep in mind as you plan your trip is that reading these boards can make or break your vaction. Sometimes I think all the planning raises expectations and you expect that everything is going to be perfect.....

But you can never plan for everything and sometimes you just have to go with the flow... There is no reason that you will not have a great time especially if you decide to have a great time....
Don't sweat the small stuff...life is to short...

We did not do the ressie rush because I did not see that as a relaxing way to start a vacation.... Reading these boards I thought I was missing out on something....You know what, I didn't miss a thing because we still had a great time....I did manage to get a spa appointment during the week and all I had to do was walk over to the spa and ask... No waiting in line, no commando preparation....

The kids club situation was a little bothersome to me at first (my kids loved it on the Wonder and hardly ever went this time) but
I went with the flow and we still had a great time...
