Recent experience with National and Debit Cards??

We have just decided to fly to Orlando after all and will be renting a car from National with our debit card with the Visa Logo of course.

From the website and from here I know that they take debit cards for rentals as long as it has the Visa or Mastercard Logo on it (which it has). However I am wondering if anyone can tell me who rented with National recently if they put any hold on your Debit Card besides the charge for the car?? Has anyone had them ask for a deposit plus the price of the rental??


I have heard National does not run credit checks before you rent the car with your debit card, has anyone had any experience with that and National??

We did this in May. They take Debit cards with Visa/ MC logos with zero problems. You must just show proof of round trip tickets so we just showed our SW internet receipt. We were told that there would be no hold on the Debit card and I don't believe that they ran a credit check. It was all very easy and we had no problems.

We used National for all of our trips and always held the car with our card but paid with debit card. We never noticed them placing any holds on our cards when they held them, never had any credit checks with them, when we returned the care we just told them to use our debit instead for payment.

We used a VISA debit card in June. No holds at all--the amount wasn't even debited until after we returned the car.
They didn't even ask to see the proof that we had round trip tickets.
